The field was pretty raunchy, i don't recall seeing it in worse condition.

I am not pointing the finger at you or any of the EB leadership Mannie, so get your panties out of a wad. For every 10 people that are dedicated soccer fans who have respect for other people, there will be 1 idiot that will ruin it for everyone. Unfortunately in the world today, that one person will put a big black eye on a group. I am a high school teacher, but every time you hear about a teacher sex scandal, it gives us all a bad name. Does it make me bad? No.

Does the fact that a few idiots throwing stuff make all of you guys bad? No, but what it does is take away from the experience of fans who came out last night. I just don't like seeing people get caught in a cross fire that should have never happened in the first place. Restraint from both sides needed to be exercised. Just my opinion.

I suspect it has to do with the schedule and timing. You probably want a relatively large break in the home game schedule for new sod/grass to take hold - especially if you re-do the entire field at once. The guy sitting next to me at the game last night stated without qualification that the field was being re-sodded next week. I don't know who he is - have only seen him a couple of times this season and only talked in passing a couple of times. Don't know if he had specific knowledge or not but he seemed confident it would be replaced next week some time. We do have a pretty long break until we start up another set of games at home - August 2nd is the next one? Hopefully he is right and it will be fixed.

quote]And I agree, maybe U of H is liable here but I haven't seen the contract so I don't really know one way or the other.[/quote]

Maybe??? There's no way that MLS/Dynamo signed a contract with UH that doesn't have some language about field conditions, and there's also no way that there are not penalties involved for not maintaining it. I don't know squat about cntract law but I'd never sign a lease for a field if the owner wasn't contractually obligated to maintain it. That's basic common sense.

Sorry for the thread hijack folks...back to the game discussion.

I want a re-match w/Chivas in the final. Having either DeRo or Holden on the field last night would have been the difference I think.

Well that may be, but I don't see how any grass can go downhill so fast between games when it doesn't see any use. It wasn't anything like it is now for the Dallas game... a little care and it would have been better than it was in June, at least I believe so. It might be some type of grass that just dies in the heat no matter what, but it was hot in June too, and it still looked pretty good...

Anyway, I wrote Mr. Luck and the UH to complain.... we'll see what they say.

My group doesn't go throwing bottles at innocent people because we are trying to hit other people. Nice try, though!

I´m sorry my friend, but as long as your group (or any other group for that matter regardless of the name) attends the Dynamo game, it is something that concerns everyone.

I´m sure that it was just a couple of guys that tried to ruin the party for everyone, I´m also 100% sure most of EB members know how to behave and every Dynamo fan I´m also sure thanks their relentless support.

But seeing the response of someone who is supposedly one of the highest ranking members, the name calling, the attitude, the feeling of being some kind of bubble inside the stadium scares me.

Everyone has seen what supporters groups have turn soccer into in other countries, thinking that hard core is the way to go, banishing kids, banishing many fans, banishing women from stadiums, yesterday I loved seeing so many kids, but that can so easily go away, it just take a few rotten apples to end the party for everyone else.

So believe me when I say, it is not your own problems, is the problem of everyone that buys a ticket to go to the stadium.

I'm not saying that it wouldn't make sense for U of H to be responsible for maintaining the field but I don't know what is in the lease agreement. For all we know, the Dynamo could be responsible for maintaining the field until the end of July. Good lord . . .

But the pics posted above really give a good idea of the current state of the field. You can see they resod part of the grass around the goal but everything else looks pretty horrible.

And I'd really like to see another game with that type of atmosphere whether its against Chivas or someone else. That game was pretty much what soccer was all about.

The HDC pitch was also in rough shape last week for the CDUSA-Galaxy match, but the explaination was that they had several different youth camps and other events in the 2 weeks preceeding.

I'm only wondering how the Robertson pitch get into the state it's been in.

just looked it up, UH's spring football was over April 12 - I suppose there's possibly been summer HS football camps using the field since. It sure looked like wear from football benches near the press box sideline.

This season, I believe we've had patches of grass killed by a malfunctioning watering system, don't remember what match that was around. Then, the field was actually pretty damn bad for the FCD game, and I thought I'd read somewhere that the resodding to the "summer" grass was going to happen between that game on 6/26 and Superliga. Obviously not.

I asked one of the Dynamo press people about the resodding last night, he said the same thing, would be done before the next match - which could be a Superliga semi on 7/29 or 7/30 before that MLS game vs. Columbus on 8/2.

If you're referring to Iani doing a "banquito" on Arellano, banquito meaning someone who goes in for a challenge but pulls out last minute with the sole intention of hurting the other player, then yes, I hope Arellano recovers from that, he was taken out of the game a few minutes after that.

Nobody has mentioned Waibel sprinting 60 yards just to tackle a Chivas defender?!?!

I'm a bit dissapointed because I truly believed Houston were a classy team and the only team (along with the Revs) in MLS with the right ingredients to make noise outside of MLS and last year's CONCACAF Champions Cup and Superliga, I thought proved that.

As for the time-wasting, it's something teams do to take the momentum out of the other team and maybe when MLS teams become more tactically aware they will understand how and when to use such tactics. Someone already commented on it, cancheros, and if you think Mexicans are bad, wait until you play in South America.

    Good Luck Against DC.

Sorry to keep harping on this, but it actually is a big part of the game last night. Maybe it should have its own thread...

I got an answer back from OL, he doesn't say much but admits he's frustrated with UH also. He wrote a short letter:
..which was followed by a reply he sent to another fan...
...which was in response to this letter that was written to the President of UH and forwarded to Mr. Luck...
So, I wrote a letter to Dr. Khator:

If you would like to write them, Oliver Luck's address is : oluck@houstondynamo.com (I don't think it's the Dynamo's fault but I think it might help OL if he got lots of people complaining about the surface, and Dr. Khator's address is rkhator@uh.edu
I also filled out a feed back form from the University at http://www.uh.edu/contact-us/feedback.php which I got from the athletics page, but now that I look at it I think it's just a general feed back. But oh well, it's worth a shot....
Of course, UH might just get fed up with it all and put in turf like they were going to do in the beginning. Remember when we first saw the field and said, "thank God they didn't put in an artificial surface!"?
