Re: Boavista FC Thread [R] "Liga confirma decisão da FPF; Boavista desce, Paços mantém-se." It's done. Boavista is demoted.
Boavista relegation Can someone please explain the logic behind the decision to relegate Boavista? It makes no sense at all. If Porto was penalized 3pts per game that they influenced, Boavista would lose 9 points for their three games of match fixing and still be above the relegation zone. So why is Boavista being screwed while Porto still gets to keep their title and play in the Champions League? If there's proof that they both fixed matches, both should be relegated. At least punish them equally whatever the decision.
Re: Boavista relegation I'm not holding my breath waiting for an explanation. It's ridiculous , I agree.
Re: Boavista relegation simple: Because the liga cant afford to lose Porto and all the money they will bring in because of the CL.
Re: Boavista FC Thread [R] Forca, it's time to move this thread. "O avançado João Tomás oficializa hoje a rescisão do contrato que assinou a meio de Julho. Mas não só. O capitão Mário Silva e o ponta-de-lança Edgar também vão comunicar à SAD a intenção de sair do clube. A debandada era esperada em virtude da descida à Liga Vitalis e deixa em aberto algo mais problemático: Pacheco está de mãos atadas e acelera a possibilidade de cessar o seu vínculo." The man-power drain and the financial situation may actually bring Boavista all the way down to the regional divisions.
Re: Boavista FC Thread [R] According to Record, crisis is growing at Boavista, as players such as Joao Tomas and Mario Silva are reportedly rescinding their contracts, due to the relegation issue. Manager Jaime Pacheco may also reportedly leave...
Re: Boavista relegation While I suspect that this may have influenced the decision, it is absolutely stupid if it did have any influence. Because Porto, Benfica, and Sporting have so much money and so many fans they are allowed to do as they please? I suspect that the league has been waiting for some excuse to deal a severe blow to Boavista ever since they won the league a few years back. How dare any one of the big three not win the league!! Let's see... what is Portugal's reputation all over the world: We punch referees in World Cup matches because we are sore losers We whine and complain to the ref constantly in all matches We have some of the world's worst divers We have a boring domestic league because only the big three are allowed to win The league bends over backwards to allow the Big Three to control the league We bribe/influence referees in league matches The league's punishment of Porto indicates that it is OK to bribe/influence referees as long as you have money and power This side of our reputation casts a dark cloud over the great talent of the Portuguese players.
Re: Boavista relegation None of them are germaine to nor are they exclusively the sole property of Portuguese soccer
Re: Boavista relegation Perhaps in the English-backed media, but I certainly don't buy into it. It isn't a deserved labelling of the Portuguese soccer, there is no monopoly on diving nor in corruption by any nation.
Re: Boavista relegation I agree, none of these qualities is exclusive to the Portuguese game. Portuguese may not be regarded as the worst or most frequent divers. They may not be the biggest whiners/complainers. However, the Portuguese are one of the few nations with a reputation so completely tainted by such a large number of self-inflicted wounds related to their respect (or lack thereof)for the game. It is only rivaled by the Italians (as far as those nations whose teams receive a great deal of media coverage.) It's a shame. And it embarrasses me. And even if it isn't unique to the Portuguese game, does that make it OK? The Boavista relegation is just the latest example of the stupidity.
Re: Boavista relegation And anyone with two eyes who has followed the Portuguese game over the last few years.
Re: Boavista relegation And the Italian game, and the German game, and the French game, and the Brazilian game, and . . . You get the picture
