Chivas USA rebrands to Los Angeles FC or whatever name that is suitable. The FC stands for Futbol Club.

It needs to market to all the Hispanics in Los Angeles (not just Chivas fans). It could compete with the Galaxy by offering affordable tickets and more Hispanic/Mexican players. Use a DP on a well-known Mexican player like Blanco. Borgetti perhaps.

Galaxy fan, get off our jock about rebranding. Worry about you crappy Defense or two man team that was given the gift of a heavy laden home schedule to start and is in danger of falling back to fifth with another loss or two.
You're not even a fan of CUSA so why do care? Why does anyone care, if Chivas fans don't care should anyone else?

It's not working. The league either needs to let them become a true Mexican/Mexican-American side, or they need to re-brand.

They should have been Club Deportivo Los Angeles from the beginning, and still should be.

How about we re-brand galaxy and their plastic fans to a name more fitting, like "schmucks FC"? Use some DP on your mom, lots of Mexicans would play there, if you know what I mean.

    How's the view in Tacoma?

    Interesting question.

Rather than a name change, I think we need to invent a time machine (perhaps out of a Delorean) and tell Vergara not to market the team as "us against the gringos - and we win." As a white Angeleno who hated the Galaxy but was interesting in supporting the league, it instantly turned me off as a potential fan. As a DC supporter who had cheered on many multi-ethnic and multi-racial teams over 12 years, it was baffling and offensive. As an American who grew up in a post-civil rights eras where racism and bigotry have no place in professional sports, it seemed like a return to an unpleasant past. (Which is likely why MLS will never let them become all-Mexican or all-Hispanic. Aside from legal issues, this brings all sorts of baggage and opens the door to discredited practices.)

I would likely have gone to Chivas games if their marketing hadn't actively driven me away with this behavior. They missed an opportunity with me.

Why don't they try marketing it as the BEST soccer team in LA. Make it cheaper to go, broaden the appeal, and put a kick-ass product on the field. Based on what I saw back at RFK last week, Chivas could be the best team in LA. If you can marginalize Beckham and frustrate Landon (the first difficult, and second amazingly easy), you've got a good chance of winning. Other than Buddle, there's not much else there.

The one thing that I think could happen at some point would be to drop out of the MLS and join the Mexican league. You've built a brand up north; now instead of bringing in Columbus, all the top Mexico teams would trek up north to play in LA.

There would be a lot of legal and financial issues with moving a team to a different league. Expansion of the Mexican league north of the border would certainly be of concern to MLS, US Soccer and FIFA. Especially if other Mexican teams try to do it. So, it might not be feasible. Or at least there would be strong efforts to stop it.

All MLS fans should care, because we want the salary cap to be raised, but unfortunately there are......certain clubs.....that are a drag on the league's bottom line, and thus are making it harder on all of us.

I wouldn't want them to become LAFC. We've got enough FCs in this league already. I'd prefer to see the LA Aztecs make a comeback.

I'm not sure why, but I like them as Chivas. If any rebranding, I'd like to see the Goats of _________. Pick a city. Still, I don't know why people are so incredibly bothered by CDUSA. I think it's a neat facet of our league, especially as it represents a complete misconception of our league that was shattered. That of course being the arrogant and foolish idea that the Mexican league could field a team of scrubs and dominate the MLS. I also really like the Chivas kits and the logo, so I'd hate to see them go. I don't see what the big deal is. At least there is a good story behind the name, one that would fall by the wayside if rebranded.

Oppose - at least partially. CDLA, or CDSD, or CDCalifronia perhaps. Still, CDUSA is fine by me.

Club Deportivo de Los Angeles is what they should be referred to if they have to keep the Chivas link.

Frankly as a fan of the real Chivas, who'b club name BTW is Club Deportivo de Guadalajara, I hate Chivas USA. They are a joke of a team, and an affront to the real Chivas and MLS at the same time. Vergara is a dumb shit, I really don't see how this helps the Chivas brand, if anything it has caused me to like them less.

Also I have no respect for a MLS having a team that is trying to make itself out to be foreign to the US. If Vergara wanted to do it right he should have done it like Saprissa and Guadalajara and make it an American only team, foreigners need not apply, but then again Team USA tried that and failed miserably so, how about we just do without it all together?

I like Chivas because of what the represent in Mexico but I don't want to see a Mexican Chivas repeated in MLS.

Oppose. They are Chivas USA. That's their name. That's who they are. Why would a name change and/or rebranding be warranted? They are building history and tradition with its current name. There's no need to revert to a new name and new identity just to please "marketing gurus." I could see Chivas LA and could live with that but dropping Chivas I am vey much opposed to.

they aren't exactly lighting up the league in attendance.

if you get rid of the chivas, then maybe fans of other mexican clubs in la would start to follow them. instead of just chivas fans.

True. They aren't packing the stadium week in, week out. However, there are many more potential fans (both Hispanic and non-Hispanic) in the area to cancel out the notion they limit themselves to Chivas Guad. fans.

Damn DC and NY are dragging things down. I say we disband both clubs since they are hurting the "bottom line" the most.

No more retarded "NY" fans (what kind of team calls themselves NY when not even in that state? :p) and arrogant DC fans (constantly brushing dust from their trophies.....:D)

Sounds good to me. Glad you agree

LOL....another Galaxy fan carrying the "Rebrand Chivas USA Now" picket sign.

I don't recall seeing any Chivas USA advertisement with the print: Chivas fans only read. Chivas USA markets their product to everyone in LA and is building a fanbase that consist of Chivas GDL fans, Non Chivas GDL fans, Non Latinos and Soccer fans in general.

The colors and the team name works well in LA. But I would not mind if the team added "Los Angeles" to it's shield or crest.

I GET THAT but why do we see aChivas rebrand thread every week Yet no Revolution,Columbus, KC or SJ rebranding threads? there are 4 teams averging LESS at home and 6 averaging LESS on the road All I am saying is get of their jock and focus on the teams or just drop it all together. BTW you know most those teams also don't do as well with sponsorship or jersey sales. They also have developed 4 UNMNT players, Johnny B, Sascha, Guzan and Flores(the u-20 team Capt.)

Obviously, you have not been to a Chivas USA home game if you think only Chivas (of mexico) fans follow them.

If attendance is the main issue for you Rebrand Loyalists then the majority of MLS clubs will need to rebrand.

Just change the official name. Keep the colors, the jersey the nickname, etc. The fans they have are already connected to that. Why alienate people when trying to attract people?

As for a proper name, CFLA make more sense than CDLA because they play only one sport. Keep calling them Chivas informally, though. Using that is certainly no worse than boring, sorry nicknames like "Blues" or "Reds."

Exaplain what is not working. And don't bring up attendance cause the majority of other MLS clubs (who don't share the market) are having attendance issues as well.

I'm concerned about any club in the league that is dragging the whole league down. That's why I'm glad Red Bull is taking the steps to improve their bottom line, and DC will be doing same, be it at Poplar Point or somewhere else. They are taking action. What is Chivas doing???

I'm in favor of rebranding, at least in part because we get members of Legion 1908 (a Chivas Guadalajara group that attends Chivas USA games) attacking members of the Union Ultras (a Chivas USA supporters' group), as at the most recent SuperClasico. Rebranding might help avoid ugly incidents like this...
