Great, now the LA crazies have convinced a Fire fan that Ronaldinho is coming to play for them. When will it ever stop?
Dallas can not even sell out their stadium on the 4th of July. Freaking ridiculous. And i bet that actual tickets sold were less than that.
so does LA share their revenue on the reported 27,000 or on the 30,000? i thought that all the games yesterday would have been sold out. a national holiday. a Soccer specific stadium. a DP. other than the over populated city of angels (where beckham is the new fad), i am disappointed
Every section of the stadium was well populated, so for those in attendance it didn't look like an empty stadium. It didn't look sold out, but it was well-attended. 16 grand is pretty good for Frisco, possibly one of the least convenient locations in the metroplex to get to. Again, how was the attendance in Tampa Bay?
Is that number a sellout for Colorado? If so, I'm very surprised. You could still see parts of the "COLORADO" in the east stands. The end-lines and the home side were packed solid, though. In LA the stadium was over-full, or at least covered in so much confetti that it looked full. Frisco looked less-than-stellar by comparison, but quite good for an FC Dallas regular season game.
Well for the Rays last 6 home games it kind of looks like this. 29,953 19,778 34,145 31,112 36,048 16,830
Considering the listed capacity of The Dick is 18,085 you're a hard man to impress. That number is a new record for the Rapids at The Dick BTW.
Am I the only oldtimer here amused that folks are bitching about how awful it is that an MLS team "only drew 16.7k" for a game?
Not only that, but many teams are playing in their own stadium which translates into additional ancilliary revenues as well as lower costs. It appears MLS is holding its own in a tough economic environment.
Well, watching the second half of FSC's doubleheader, I'm beginning to think that the "USA" in the Chivas name stands for "Unable to Sustain Attendance." Or at least they sustain it at a relatively low level. It's always sort of depressing watching Chivas games because, no matter how well the team is playing at any given time, it seem to find a way to make a soccer-specific stadium look half empty. Which it often is, except when they play the Galaxy.
There's a guy I work with that brings a tape player to work... and plays tapes... that he recorded from his vinyl albums.

Indeed. I'm wondering when I missed the memo that every team in MLS MUST -- upon pain of death -- sell out their stadium for July 4. For all the people wringing their hands about a certain team's drawing only 16,700 and change, here is that team's history on July 4: 1996: 16,177 1997: 16,089 1998: 12,372 1999: 17,621 (BTW, this was the last time that the Chicago Fire won in Dallas.) 2001: 21,343 2002: 16,055 2006: 16,240 2007: 15,773 2008: 16,765 Unlike the rubes in Denver and LA, I guess that the local soccer fans have never been easily plied by a fireworks show.
