I know that I don't want him to leave Flu. There was an article not too long ago saying AC Milan had some interest as well.

The Flu players decided to skip the awards ceremony and NOT receive their 2nd place medals!

    What's that all about????

EDIT: Looks like they changed their mind!

How so ElMuneco? Bad ref calls? Flu fans rolled all over the ground laughing at Flamengo last year when they got robbed by Hector Baldassi. Doesn't taste so good when it happens to you, eh?:p Not to mention, LDU got robbed in extra time from a legit goal.

Really? I thought Liga was robbed having to go through penalties after having a legitimate goal ruled offside in OT!

Because of CONMEBOL's bullshit rule that away goals don't count in the final. Look, I can accept losing and all, but not like this. If you're going to have the "away goals count rule", then you have to have throughout the tournament or don't have it at all. Don't just have it for the rounds after the group stages and then decide they don't count in the final. But, we all know why they decided this. It's simple. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It should've never even went to extra time, nor penalties to begin with. Either the away goals count, or they don't. I'll tell you this much though, if Flu's aways goals counted, then LDU would've attacked more and the game would've been even more exciting and dramatic.

And how the hell did Conmebol know this would happen when the rule came into play?? Conspiracy theorist who killed JFK?

Someone was just a little overconfident!! :D

I'll have to see the replay, as I was watching the game on a terribly choppy internet connection, but it seemed that Fernando Henrique let up on even trying to save it because he heard the whistle/saw the flag go up. I could be completely wrong here.

But regardless, and I'm admitting full bias here, the superior team throughout the tournament was Flu, and this is a hard way to end the tournament. LDU didn't need to knock out the top two favorites on their way to the final, nor did they score the most goals in the tournament.

I don't want to make any excuses regarding the altitude at Quito in the first leg, but Flu was a COMPLETELY different team in that game. To say they played lethargically would be a vast understatement- the first half of that game was easily their worst half in the entire tournament. Flu simply dug themselves too deep of a hole to climb out of.

The fact that they were down quickly yet again last night , then were able to rebound and force extended play, showed a huge amount of resolve.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm bitter, and LDU didn't win it- Flu lost it.

SPFC vs. Velez Sarsfield, 1994 at Morumbi
Palmeiras vs. Boca Juniors, 2000 at Morumbi (Palermo scored his after missing 3 in one game for Argentina in 1999. Asprilla of all people missed his)
Palmeiras vs. Boca Juniors, 2001 at Parque Antarctica
Cruzeiro vs. Deportivo Cali, 2003 at Mineirao (none of Cruzeiro's players scored; even Alex missed his... and this was the year many foresaw a Cruzeiro vs. Rio da Prata matchup)
Gremio vs. Olimpia, 2002 at Olimpico
Sao Caetano vs. Olimpia, 2002 at Pacaembu
Sao Caetano vs. Boca Juniors, 2004

    But we've won also:

SPFC vs. Newell's Old Boys, 1992 at Morumbi
Gremio vs. Guarani, 1997 at Olimpico
Cruzeiro vs. El Nacional, 1997 at Mineirao
Palmeiras vs. Corinthians, 1999 at Morumbi
Palmeiras vs. Deportivo Cali, 1999 at Parque Antarctica
Corinthians vs. Rosario Central, 2000 at Pacamebu (?)
Palmeiras vs. Penarol, 2000 at Parque Antarctica
    Atletico-MG vs. Atletico-PR, 2000 at Kyocera Arena (?)
Palmeiras vs. Corinthians, 2000 at Morumbi (I went crazy that night... LOL at Corinthians)
Palmeiras vs. Sao Caetano, 2001 at Parque Antarctica (?)
Cruzeiro vs. Palmeiras, 2001 at Mineirao (I was disappointed; I wanted to see Cruzeiro advance due to Felipao at the helm)
Sao Caetano vs. Universidad Catolica, 2002 (don't know where)
Sao Caetano vs. Penarol, 2002 (don't know where)
SPFC vs. Rosario Central, 2004 at Morumbi
Santos vs. LDU, 2004 at Vila Belmiro
SPFC vs. Estudantes da Prata, 2006 at Morumbi

Good info. How did you get it so quickly ?

But I meant against foreign competition. 6 of the above games are between Brazilian teams. I'd like to know how many we've actually won on foreign ground.

A lot of these I knew from memory; others I did watch.

Ha. I forgot to mention Cruzeiro beat Colo Colo in Chile in 1997 on PKs.

Atletico-PR beat Cerro Porteno, 2005 in Paraguay.

This is all I found since 1990.

I am biased against Flu, but your analysis is correct. The altitude dynamic really changed the nature of the series. Flu was by far the best team in the Libs and this was a horrible way for it to end because I'm convinced Flu would have have it 90% of the time on neutral sites. Seeing Thiago Neves was a joy!

Sure but, Flu played only 90 minutes in Quito....LDU played 120 minutes in the Maracana, had a legitimate goal disalloed and had to deal with the pressure of penalties in front of a very hostile crowd!

Flu "By far the best team in the Libertadores"?? Are you guys sure about that??

    Couln't have been that "far"...

There were already some eyes on Neves before this tournament started. With the way he finished yesterday- basically putting the team on his back- I see him moving on to greener ($$$) pastures sometime soon. Good for him, though. He had a great game, and I don't care that he missed his penalty- they wouldn't have been there without him, anyway.

Hey Renato- what's this!? We're in last place in the Brasileirao!?! Better start playing a full squad now!

Thiago Neves has said in a couple of interviews that he wants to stay at FLu, not sure how much weight we can really put to that but Unimed seems very intrested in maintaining a strong team so we shall have to see. To be honest i am abit more intrested in keeping Conca and Thiago Silva, Neves had a superb game yesterday but has been rather inconsistent throughout the season. Flu will recover from this and I am sure we will be back at the Libertadores again with a strong team.
