Steve Cronin stood on his head to keep that to single digits. Great to see Olsen back. Gallardo with some puzzling decisions on the ball or Emilio could have had a couple more. What was with the Galaxy's fitness? After the 50th minute they were absolutely gassed. Landon could only run at the end of the game because from minutes 50-70 he walked. Emilio has 10 goals now when he had 7 at this time last year. Thoughts of transferring him are so beyond ridiculous it's not even funny.
Better than seeing Donovan take a shot to the snot locker was Bennie's first touch of the season. Life is good today
It's been so humid here, of course. The effort from the Galaxy just wasn't there. They just didn't look like they cared for long stretches of the game. We all know how Landon is and getting a hit on him really took him out of the game when coupled with the goal being called back for being offside. The Galaxy backline is either fairly old or very young and inexperienced position by position and that really showed through today. Acclimating to any change in weather takes a little time. Think of how warm that random 65 degree day in February feels. That said, I don't think that DC was at a substantial advantage based on the temperature and humidity we've had.
Alot of People underestimate weather and especially theHeat in DC... washington DC has that Swamp heat beleive summer time no joke !!!
That position in the table won't last long, with the SuperLiga taking over - but beter to have a position now, and games in hand, than neither. Roll on Chivas the Elder!
Galaxy fitness can be explained quite simply. Obviously the humidity played a role...but the game started at 9AM pacific time....I'm gassed and I was watching!
Oh yeah, and great game and all that Jazz....good to see Benny on the field. Gallardo and him need to work on their communication, seemed to be on different pages. Emilio, so close to the hattrick. And Donovan is crybaby.
Does anyone know when LA got here? This is a much better reason in my mind than heat/humidity. We all know the West Coast NFL team's record is very poor in games that start at 1:00 on the East Coast but if LA has been here for a few days then I don't buy this one, either.
thankfully, landycakes showed up instead of landon donovan i really thought we would lose today, very thankful we stood up to the task peralta had a shaky start, led to the goal, but otherwise had a solid game, as did mcT, the quaranta-burch substitution seemed to work out better for our offense than i was worried it would, cronin played his A** off today, or emilio would have had 3, and fred a couple, good to see benny back, and i loved the crowd and for LA fans, who are crying their eyes out on their board, im sure, will complain about the heat, complain about that backline, with oldie xavier in the middle, and the D-mids, i have no idea who your D-mids are, but if pires/tudela/franchino are your options, good luck the rest of the way
every team in the east, except the revs, has at least 1 game in hand on us, chicago and kc have 2, so hope that during the superliga, we have some results go our way, with chicago, that should be a given, with kc, its a toss up
Remarkable how much better we look now. I'm one of many who have called for Schoen's head and I still question some of his personnel decisions but have to say the team stuck together and is really working for each other. Getting Benny back is only going to help, because everyone knows you can't be on the field with him an not run or he'll be in your ear from accross the field if he has to. We're in great form heading into this SuperLiga - teams are going to have to make the long trip to DC, play in our heat/humidity, in front of our crowd (which was absolutely incredible today, great work as always) and against our boys who are now starting to fullfill potential and expectations.
Just wanted to give you guys some props! Electric atmosphere and a great intro to the Euro Final. The attack is clicking on all cylinders. from Fred, to Tino, to Jamie, to Emilio. to Gallardo, your attack is a monster right now. It's fun to watch. Great movement and understaning of space and flawless passing inside the attacking third has shredded the opposition. I hope you do, of course, hit a brick wall next time you guys face the Crew but nonetheless DCU has looked the class of MLS the last 3 weeks. Most exciting moment today, without question, was the introduction of Olsen. The crowd absolutely exploded when he step up to the half-way line looking to come on. It didn't stop there. I loved how Ben gave a little clap to the supporters. I thought I had seen the last of Ben. It was truely great to see him step onto the pitch. Scary but a healthy Olsen can make your team better.
Gonzalo Martinez MOTM. He completely pwned Beckham. And Marc Burch had a fantastic game too. It was hot as fvkc down at RFK. But we made it home in time to only miss about the first four minutes of Spain v Germany.
