Wowsers. That was cool. Even though I had to use matchtracker, since I'm at work. Poor Fear. Who will you be rooting for?
holy ************! WOW! I cried, I laughed, I cried somemore and laughed some more!!!! than my mum called and we laughed and screamed... my poor RA and dorm person (that live next to me)!!! WE ARE GOING TO THE FOUNDERS CUP THIS TIME WE ARE WINNING! i LOVE YOU GUYS AND MISS YOU GUYS, I SHOULD HAVE THE INTERNET UP THIS WEEK! SEE YOU GUYS THEN!
Holy cow! That was an exciting roller coaster ride of a match. Did ESPN2 show the full match? WTSN only showed from the 31st minute onwards. Wasn't sure why that was, but it gave me hope for an Atlanta goal in the second half. Good job with the subs by Tommy. Pohlers is such a good player. I was happy that Atlanta tied it so that the missed call in the box wouldn't have any bearing on the outcome of the game. It was a pretty goal by Wagner. Charmaine 's was pretty sweet aswell........... YAY! Founders Cup 3!
Did WTSN carry the ESPN2 feed? If so the reason why the game came on when it did was cuz ESPN2 was airing a tennis match that was taking FOREVER to finish.
Will they replay it? If so, post the time and date here, Fear...please! Awesome game! Everyone played so well. SD played tough and both teams played excellent soccer. It was a much better game than the Boston/Washington match. My highlights: 1 - Beat came out hard and fast and did most of the playing for the first 30 minutes or so. SD was tough defensively. They maintained composure and kept the Beat from scoring. The Beat threw everyone forward at the end and SD held up until stoppage time. 2 - Gaston was excellent!!! Pohlers really went for it as well. Credit Hooper for out-running Fawcett... no easy task. 3 - Very nice speech from Scurry at the end... she really gave some props to the crowd. We were really loud...my ears are still ringing! 4 - A really big HELLO TO JAN B. ... it was really nice to meet you! Thanks for reading the boards! You should sign up and chat along with us!! 5 - A thrilling VICTORY for the BEAT!! It was freakin' awesome! Thanks to the team for such a great win! Bring the cup home next week!!!!!! Wish I could be there!!!!!!!!!!! ---Kim ** side note: SD really did play an awesome game. I hated seeing Fawcett upset...she's one of my favorite USWNT stars. They have some super nice players. I've met a few through Lisa K and it has really changed my attitude about the team. They had a great season and should be a real force next year! Thanks for making the semi-final such a fantastic game!
So I finally stopped jumping up and down - but I am still feeling the high. THANK YOU BEAT (and SD) for another thilling playoff. I will have to admit, I didn't allow myself to get excited for this one, in fear of a major let down. Well that all changed the second I walked into the stadium - the crowd was great and got into early. And it had to be a good omen to finally catch a mini-ball, (ok I had a little help from Debbie's head). To many standouts in this one, about the only one who had an off game was Erich Simmons (just stating an opinion). ONE MORE TO GO!
Congrats to the Beat. I am still hoarse from cheering. They refused to quit against a tough effort by SD (and two missed PK calls). Marci Miller is my unsung hero of the game. We pressured SD for the first 30 minutes and then there was a momentum change. Marci came on and reestablished our midfield presence
Thanks! Thanks to the players. You showed heart. You believed in yourself. You didn't quit. It was an awesome finish! A great performance by everyone on the field, young or "old" and great support by the players on the bench. Thanks to the crowd - especially section 116. In the opinion of the referees (I know several of the local guys who work the games as AR and 4th) you have arrived. You are no longer spectators, you are FANS. Thanks to WUSA. Without a quality league it would not be worth it. Hopefully things will work out and the league will be around for many more years to come. Thanks to the Beat front office. You've done a great job putting on each game. I wish more people would come out to the games. Herndon was a great choice of stadiums. Last night was unreal. My throat still hurts. The atmosphere was great. When Connie equalized it was so loud we could not hear ourselves. The scene on the field was crazy after the game. After their initial celebrations, the players were taking pictures of each other. Hugs everywhere. Connie had a camcorder. It was interview after interview for Maribel, for Charmaine and for Briana. Special compliments to Joy Fawcett. Limping, dissappointed and obviously down in the dumps she still made it over to sign autographs. A true warrior, my heart goes out to you. We need you to help keep the World Cup in the USA! Lisa K. was one of the last players (either team) to leave the field. We miss you! One more game to go! This is the year of the Beat! GO BEAT!!! I am having trouble with my web site. Apparently, my hosting company is in the middle of moving me to a new server. Right now, my URL points to the old one. I did manage to get pictures up last night on another web site that I manage. Here's the direct link: http://www.afclightning.org/beat_spirit_030817/ There are about 100 pics. Enjoy!
Great game!!! Given how we played in the first half, we deserved to win. We really peppered them with chances, and kept them well defended. Their goal was just plain good soccer... no fluke, but we had the ball down near or in their box about 80% of the first 35 minutes. We really pulled out all the stops isnthe last 15 minutes. I would have sworn that the crowd was over 10K given the noise we made. I'm on to San Diego... got tickets last week, having purchased them about a month ago. Given how Washington played the last few games, this should be a great one. GO BEAT!!!!
Wow I am still in shock! That game was life threatening to me. I was eating a mint when we scored the tying goal and I saw the ball go in and oh man that mint nearly lodged itself right into my throat lol! And my foot was jumped on a few times! I still have no voice and I went from like the lowest low of about to cry to the biggest high ever! I think once we tied it we had it in the bag because the fans were amazing and when you go from 90 seconds away from thinking you have won we definitely had the advantage! OMG that was the coolest sports experience ever ever ever!! Okay I need to go focus now!
Hey if any of you guys find any pics from the semi-final...post them here. Like the pics from internet news sources and yahoo. Thanks!
How do you post a picture? I've seen it done, but don't know how. Kim, you can go to my web site - it's working now. I have about 100 semifinal pictures. http://www.photosbymcd.com/albums/beat_spirit_030817/index.html
From the 8/19 AJC: Beat celebrates, but focus is on the final http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/beat/0803/19beat.html
and there was a nice editorial in today's AJC... my minor gripe is that it made it wound like the whole fan bases is PTHs and their parents.
Well, I'm trying to perpetuate that stereotype... I'm rasing my own pigtailedhooligan. She almost qualifies as she is just 5.
AJC article This one is by Mark Bradley Eighty seconds closer to a crown http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/columns/bradley/081803.html
And the Ed/Op Mike was referring to: Beat's title quest has fans fired up http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/0803/19beat.html Couldn't agree more -- the Beat victory rivaled my experience at Candlestick Park when Dwight Clark caught "The Catch" -- it was that explosive.
Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing! How did you get on the Field? Do you have a press pass? I loved the up-close over-joyed expressions on the players faces! Freakin' awesome!
Since my club is a Beat partner I asked for a field pass and got one! I only usually go down and take a few pictures of the team, the refs and the National Anthem before the game. After that I go back to my seat to enjoy the game. I don't take many game pics, because it's hard to watch and work at the same time. The one game I stayed on the field for the whole thing I really did not enjoy it. I did get some good pictures, but I never posted them. I was using a film camera that night and haven't taken the time and effort to scan them. After Sunday's game I grabbed my wide angle lens and my extra chips (digital film) and rushed down to the field to capture the moment. It was really awesome down there! I loved the AJC pic of Hooper celebrating after she scored the winner. I wish I had the forethought to lift my camera when the play developed (it was in my hand) but I'm a fan first, photographer second. I was too busy watching her finish the breakaway to think about taking pictures!
