He's picked the biggest 11 name players and shoehorned them into some idiotic formation. This is not going to go well.
cant be any worse than the team that was fielded in chicago. alan amith and andy johnson up front. players like zat knight in defence.
I'm unsure really, I think the problem always has been discipline with out players not performing, they assume their normal roles with their clubs, for the national team. Which cannot happen, they need a manager to motivate them and tell them exactly what to do and I think we may see a stark contrast from this team under Capello.
It's the old square peg in round hole tactic Sven used so many times. I'd rather seen Bentley or Walcott with the lineup Capello has out there.
it would be like italy turning out with del piero ,totti and cassano in the same lineup. big names but not effective together.
We are using 7 out of the 11 players who started against Portugal in 2004. If Mong the Elder and Owen were fit it would be 9 out of 11. These players, collectively, are not good enough. How many chances are they going to get. Come the World Cup (If we qualify) we will have the same damn players and the end result will be the same. With all due respect to the septic and T and T, this is exactly the games when we should be trying out a few fringe players.
That's true and I still expect them to do enough to beat the USA without much hassle, although worries me that may make him think this lineup will also work in a genuinely tough game.
Well the last time Brown and Beckham both played on the right, Brown seemed to think he was the winger and Beckham was playing behind him. Granted Brown was all giddy from scoring a goal against Liverpool a few days earlier but I hope he behaves tonight. I'd like to see Walcott and Bentley (are they on the bench?) get on the pitch at some point. It COULD work... thats as optomistic as I'm getting. I'll either be calling Capello a twat or a genius by the end of tonight... ah the joys of being England manager.
May I take just a minute say how unimpressed I am with this team and potential formation. It reeks of a Sven team which, although solid, failed on several occasions. It offers nothing new and stinks of laziness.
Brown is a stroke waiting to happen. Instant high blood pressure when he steps on the pitch. Walcott could be explosive on the right side if used. The game in France cost Bentley his starting role for this game. He was non-existant. He was excellent however in the game before.
Haha its like being an abused wife isn't it? You swear you won't go back, then do because maybe things have changed. Then you just get slapped in the face for your trouble.
Which is all well and good but it depends on what subs he uses. As long as he doesn't just bring on Crouch, Bridge, Downing, Cole and Barry and actually uses some of the other options. Do we have enough subs on the bench though? Hart, Lewis, Johnson, Bridge, Warnock, Woodgate, Bentley, Jagielka, Wheater, Huddlestone, Barry, Joe Cole, Downing, Young, Crouch, Ashton, Walcott, Agbonlahor.
He couldve used this game to bring in the likes of Ashley Young and David bentley. USA is without their best two attackers it seems. Anything less than a sound win wont look very good.
Yeah, I would like to see players like Hart, Young, Ashton, Walcott, and Agbonlahor get a run out. At least a few of them if Capello is stuck on sending out the usual...
Just wait i bet you this will work, this guy has led some of the best teams in Europe, you will all be happy again in a few hours when we have beaten them. Its a normal formation except i suppose Gerrard will play on the left, I'd like to see Young replace him in 2nd half, and maybe Walcott for Defoe.
