this has already been discussed (at great length, I must add) in the Dallas game thread, but as I said there, I like Ruud talking to him. It was a really bad tackle and a deserved red card, but Serioux is not a dirty player. You can look at his stats (i posted them in the other thread, its like 1 or 2 yellow cards and this one red in the past two years). He was hot and frustrated and just lost his mind.

Becks was waving "bye bye" and Franchino looked like he was saying "Ima kill you next time we play", but Ruud was calm. It almost looked like Ruud was giving him a little advice, and even consoling him- as evidenced by the pat on the back. It was really classy stuff by our manager.

He's saying "You are very lucky Frappuccino was subbed at halftime, otherwise you'd be hurting right now."

As I said in another thread, he is one of my fav players. His presence has improved the midfield (*Lou prepares to go off on his usual "the one thing MLS is lacking, and painful so, is decent midfielders" rant, but stops himself just in time*) enormously (along with a certain David fellow, of course).

As I said on the youtube video, if this kid did actually say "Welcome baby, welcome" Franchino should have pull a Mcsorley on him...

A very fair assumption - and you're probably right - but looks can be deceiving.

I remember reading a book on Joe Namath and he was recounting an incident while he was playing for the Crimson Tide. He came off the field (perhaps after an interception?) and Bear Bryant came up to him and put his arm around him and it looked like he was consoling him.

Instead, Joe said, "He was damn near squeezing my head off." And he was also saying some very unkind words to him and about him in a menacing whisper. :)

But yeah, Ruud was probably very encouraging to Serioux.

I don't mean to keep sturring the pot on this subject, but I just ran across this from the mlsrumors website. I know that's not considered reputable but they did provide a link to the article they got their information from. (Yes, I know they reference The Sun but I thought it was worth discussing anyways.)

Seems like Serioux gave an interview last year when Beckham was scheduled to first join the league. His comments are basically a prophecy for what he did during the last game.

    MLS is Serioux

    EXCLUSIVE by STEVE BRENNER

DAVID BECKHAM has been warned to expect a kicking in the US this summer.

Former Millwall defender, now FC Dallas enforcer, Adrian Serioux says if Becks thinks playing for LA Galaxy will be a walk in the park, he is dead wrong.

Serioux, who will come face to face with the former England skipper on July 31, said: “His salary and lifestyle has a lot of players thinking, "We’ve dedicated our lives to the game and will have nothing to retire on"’.

"He’s great for MLS but me and a few others are going after him, he’s made us feel unappreciated.

“If Beckham can’t handle it, he can play ping-pong or tennis.

“There’ll be no line to cross with him, I don’t have a line. If he’s on the ball, he’s there to be hit hard.

“Coach Steve Morrow brought me in as an enforcer. I don’t take any nonsense, whether they’re rookies or big-time Galacticos.

So what do you guys think about these quotes? Real or fake? Based on the source I would say fake, but based on Serioux's actions I would say real.

wow, I hope it's fake and he's above this. Otherwise he will be lower than I ever imagine, at the bottom of human trash can.

And if he think this is the way he will always play, I say let's risk a red card by simply breaking his leg and see what he will think about that.

THIS is NOT fake.... the Sun's sports coverage it accurate; they live and breathe soccer and don't make up fake stuff. I've been reading it for 4 years.

I'm not wasting my time. Liverpool blows; only Gerrard and Torres make them fun to watch.... they are forever 4th.

i'd lean towards legitimate. while the sun does have a tendency to lie, it is extremely rare that they falsify direct quotations - that's libel and grounds for litigation.

typically when a "news source" wants to publish something fake they intersperse real quotes with editorial comments in a sly and sadly all too often successful attempt to trick the reader (graheme jones is a master of the art).

someone should forward this to garber.

I agree, his comments are shocking. Specially this one:

“There’ll be no line to cross with him, I don’t have a line. If he’s on the ball, he’s there to be hit hard."

How much more blunt and direct can you be in stating your intentions?

BTW, did he just recieve a 1 game suspension?

Dirk Kuyt plays with more heart than entire teams.

Riise blew it... that sucks for any player to have that happen to him. I like Gerrard, Reina and Torres, but Mascherano complains too much and is an underachiever from what I've seen. Also, never been sold on Crouch.

    /agree for the most part.
Back on topic. Serioux should get a verbal beating like no other when they come here to play.

I like the guy with comments like that:

Believe me if we didnt have beckham on this team, I would want a killer out there protecting the teams integrity.

So stop being a bunch of bltches. Guys like Serioux and scrunchy face are needed to protect and enforce the common good.

I just wish soccer players werent such vaginas... all posturing and no punching, one thing that is greatly appreciated in hockey. If DB was so upset why didnt he throw one of his gaymakers at serioux's face?

Why, cause DB wasnt that upset. And he can't fight. So with those (2) factors being present DB should STFU!!!

    Re: Yeserioux

    a) DB basically said - it's a man's game and tackles happen
    b) there's a massive difference between having an enforcer like joey f., danny peña, etc... and player one. saying they were going after player two because player two was rich. if you want to talk about bitch moves that's a bitch move. "oh i'm not as good as becks, so i'm going to hurt him". bitch.
    c) do you recognize the irony of your posts? something about a keyboard cowboy calling anyone, let alone a professional an athlete, a vagina is amusing.

I read in the MLS N&A thread that the updated Discipline report came out and Serioux only received the mandatory 1-game suspension.

    Re: Yeserioux

it is always best just to ignore TJ's comments . . . as they are rarely valid and usually on the level of an immature 14 year old.

a one game suspension for that tackle is just wrong. if he would have broke DB's leg would it have been a one game suspension? i think not. problem with the MLS is they suspend based on the outcome and not the act. the fact that DB didn't break his leg is due to his ability to avoid it, and that should not be a reward for this tool.

now i am not saying that DB should be treated special . . . but a dirty tackle should be treated like a dirty tackle irrespective of who is receiving it, who is doing it, or the outcome of the play. just to be clear, i still think tyrone's tackle against cooper (was it last year?) was awful and he should have also been suspended for more than 2 games.

hahaha..you really make me laugh there! :D

totally agree with what you're saying here. MLS has lots and lots of things to be reviewed and renewed if it wants to be a very high standard professional league - the salaries, the referreeing, the referrees, the rules etc, etc.

Not like the mature 14 year olds you know right?

You know the ones you probably tell the cops you thought were 18.

See Dmhines, that there is writing. trying to read the massive string of alphabet-poop you call your opinion is like watching flies fu*k.

The last thing you should do is ignore my posts... take a little creative license and stop posting "in your own words". have you ever thought about plagiarism?
