Sign me up for this deal...It would be huge for us to have Huckerby, If he can produce like he used too with Man City and Coventry.
He is a forward/winger according to that link. Is that where we really need help the most? I would think an A-Mid is our biggest need.
I'll take Huckerby over Glinton, Kamara or Pguerra in a heartbeat! Our idiot forwards have only scored one goal in 7 games.
I think we should be a little more patient, just a couple of weeks. There will be SO many more good strikers available as soon as more are released. The seasons are just ending so there will be many out there. Huckerby is not the pick of the litter. I think it's more likely than not that he's past his due date.
If Toronto pick this guy up they will be really formidable in this league. Its really amazing what kinda of turn around they pulled so far this year. At the begining of the year they were probably worse than us and now they are one of the best in the league.
Umm, what 2008 Major League Soccer Standings Eastern Conference PTS Columbus Crew 18 Chicago Fire 16 New England Revolution 13 Red Bull New York 11 Toronto FC 10 Kansas City Wizards 10 D.C. United 6
Eh, I kinda still agree. Not best in the league in the standings, but possibly now one of the best teams. Only the end of the season will show. And I know Toronto is not a team I would want to play against right now, especially with their shit field and crazy fans.
So what did I say that was wrong? At the begining of the year they were terrible, now they are 5th place in the league! Toronto on 10 points is better than every team in our division and things are looking up for them. They have made some great early season pickups and apparently are still looking for more. Also they didn't play last week so teams like NY and NE passed them.
TFC has also not lost in 4 games (3 wins, 1 draw). So yes, of recent, they have been tough to beat, especially at home.
We've been discussing the possibility of acquiring Huckerby for about a week and a half now in the Dear Lord, Can We Get a Forward... thread. I posted a link there with a pretty cool Frank Yallop interview from the Ipswich Town blog. Yallop admits that the Quakes would love to acquire Huckerby, and that he may be in town to visit SJ this week after he's done visiting Toronto. Yallop also mentions that the Quakes have been in contact with Huckerby's agent. I also posted a couple of links to some sweet Huckerby YouTube videos, including one of a goal that I think may rival (or surpass) Georgie Best's famous Quakes goal.
Basically it's like calling dibs on a player. Whichever team files the discovery first, gets first dibs on the player. As I see it, a few things have to happen before Huckerby comes to San Jose: 1. Huckerby wants to come to MLS. 2. Huckerby wants to come to San Jose. 3. San Jose is willing to pay what Huckerby is asking for. 4. We make a trade to TFC for Huckerby's rights. If any of those 4 items don't happen, no Huckerby for San Jose and we move on to one of the other 10 discoveries we have filed with the league.
Would Huckerby be the proverbial "canary in the coal mine" in Quakeland? If he can't score, then we know we've got big problems.
I am not so excited about this. I say let's not rush to fix anything. This is our first season back and we should not expect any quick fixes and start doing a Mo Johnston. Frankly I'd even be OK with last place as long as we ended up with a solid understanding of what's working and what's not over the course of the season and made the right adjustments along the way and in the next off season. My expectations will be a lot higher next season though. But that's just me.
I wouldn't rush into this either. I don't think we'd have to pay for his rights though. The next question is: Who "discovered" Ronaldinho?
Not exactly. It's more like if a "proven striker" couldn't score with the team, then maybe the team should re-think their overall direction. Kind of a stretch, but I wanted to try to work "canary in the coal mine" in here somehow.
Wow, that's a remarkably rational statement. Are you sure you're allowed to post on BS???? I agree with everything you just said. (That being said, I wouldn't mind Huckerby, but as mentioned, a lot of things would have to happen for him to come here. I'm not holding my breath.)
It was obvious our front line was weak to begin with, and the way the season has played so far has certainly verified that viewpoint, so, I don't think signing a forward now is a "rush" to fix something. The fact that Yallop has brought in brazilians for a tryout and is interested in Huckerby shows he has a solid understanding of the fact that our current front line is not scoring goals. The time for an "adjustment" is now.
I actually think we are better than the standings indicate *right now*. While we don't have the talent to win every game, we should be able to play every team to a draw (Dallas). Occasionally, things will go wrong, and the ball won't bounce our way (Chicago), occasionally it will bounce our way (Colorado), but we have no excuse for giving up soft goals and just flat out giving the game away (LA, Columbus). If we can get rid of the LA/Columbus debacles, I'll be happy with whatever our standings are at the end of the year. Now. Does Huckerby help? Maybe. He's clearly been really good in the past, but the question I'm not capable of answering is: "Why the sudden drop-off this year?" If it is just something silly like being played out of his best position by an idiot manager, well, no problem. But if it is the other side - that the game just passed him by - I'd rather stick with Glinton, Kamara, Cunliffe, and Peguero. Actually, I think we need to give the guys on our team more of a chance to develop chemistry before we try to get rid of them. If our forwards have only scored one goal after then next five games..... Well, then maybe it's time to reevaluate things.
I completely agree, bringing in Huckerby would only set the teams development back several months. We would do much better bringing in one or two ball control midfielders, in the vein of a Blanco or Schelotto who could actually deliver a good ball to Kamara. Bringing in an over the hill forward now, just makes no sense what so ever.
