LOL! That's what I like most about the jersey. I can see Missy Elliot sporting one: "Ching-ching gettin' paid over here."
I see: "Que? You want me stand here? Wait!! No picture!! No ready!!!" There's a picture of him smiling and looking happy on the DC United site in the photos from the announcement. Ben Olsen, on the other hand, looks like he's thinking, "Damn, I'll never get to actually play in this jersey."
I am bit ambivalent about jersey sponsors- a great source of revenue, but not really a big deal. That being said, GODDAMN the DC United/VW jerseys look great! As much as I love the Fire and am glad that Best Buy ponied up for a big money jersey sponsorship (with VW and Herbalife), the new DC United jersey puts all of the others (especially the Fire/Best Buy) jersey to shame. Good job, DC United, well done!
Ugh that's almost as bad as the picture of Agoos wearing the 1994 World Cup jersey. We may never see Olsen don this kit beyond this photo.
i am sure i am not the first person to say this, but i don't understand why the VW logo is not in color like on VFL Wolfsburg that would look so much better. our jersey looks like it's got a crappy iron-on on it.
I don't know if I could disagree more if I tried. That blue and white logo doesn't match the green and white jersey at all.
MLS has specific rules apparently on what colors can be used. It's the same reason that Best Buy on Chicago is in black rather than their official colors. Glidden too. That said, I prefer going with black and white. I think the blue would add too much and the more basic colors fits in with DCU's jersey style. I didn't like the with blue mock ups that people had posted here.
well, our shirt's not green... i just think our jersey looks 'unprofessional' or something, in the same way that the best buy logo on the fire's jersey looks like an afterthought. i'd prefer there weren't ads on there at all, but if you're going to have it at least make it stand out a little bit.
oh, well i guess that settles it. but it's not a coincidence that all these jerseys look like the ad is an afterthought.
That's fine by me; I want the ad to be an "afterthought". As less noticeable as possible works as far as I'm concerned. That's kind of what I like about the way the VW looks. It's plain and doesn't take away from the overall look of the jersey.
Take a look at the kits for Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or Man U over at Colours of Football. For the most part, each of these teams use their main team colors for their sponsor's logo. An exception is Liverpool's use of Carlsberg green on their white jerseys. Like DCU/VW, I don't see a need for the sponsor to stand out more prominently and I think it looks professional. However, that doesn't help explain why the Best Buy logo on the Fire jersey looks like crap.
I think one reason that these corporate logos look like an afterthought is we've all grown accustomed to how the kits have looked and the additions look strange to our eyes. Given time, we'll get used to them and they won't look so weird. The VW logo has just been revealed today, give it a chance. As far as Wolfsburg using the actual color VW logo, doesn't VW literally own the team?
Fugly. One of my least favorite sponsor choices, and it looks horrible on our chest. I much preferred the 3-stripes with no logo, but I could adjust to the plain black with no logo, and I don't have a problem with a logo on the back, but that big circular peoplebuggy symbol on the stomach just looks horrible. In fact, it's got to be one of the worst corporate sponsorship jersey's I've ever seen ... ugh. Not a fan of this sponsorship decision. -Digital
