I'm thinking about bringing some to the next tailgate. But I don't want to do it if it's not something that people like.
LT - I don't smoke, but I'm positive that you'll find a more cultured collective in the barra than me! I hope the knee is doing well....
Lots of us do. Very much in my case. And this is the Barra, a little smoke (of any kind) never hurt us.
I have NEVER seen the Grillmaster smoke a cigar... --Dude, this is the freaking Barra. Do what you want as long as it doesnt hurt anyone else.
OK. Point taken. I'll probably bring them on our next Saturday home game then. I think you can get them back close their original goodness if you get them back into the right temperature and dampness. They might not ever get back 100% but they'll be usable.
I still have three or four Cuban Montecristo #2s and a couple of Romeo Y Julieta coronas in my humidor that I bought on a European vacation back in '98 or '99. I had 7 boxes of Cubans shipped from Casa Del Puro in Spain to the apartment we rented in Italy, and of the 175 I smuggled back home, the Monte's and R&J's are all I have left. So to answer the question, yes, I love cigars.
I love some cigars and tolerate others! Presidente size is my fave -- although a panatella is nice for about 30 min. GM
When I am home, because they don't sell them here in Ohio, I stock up on T. Mercedes sold at Signature in Rockville. Call me new school, but I also like the bourbon infused Maker's Mark and Gurkha. Have had a couple of R&J's in my lifetime, but feel they are overhyped. The only two I haven't tried that I would like to try is Opus X and PAUL GARMIRIAN. .
Opus X is an buttkicker of a cigar-it will knock you flat on your butt if you are not careful. Pricey...and honestly, if you want a real strong stick, you will get the same effect for a lot less money if you try La Flor Dominicana (double ligero chisel)...the poor man's Opus X... The smallest Opus X is the strongest cigar I have ever smoked...I had to quit after half... Cigars I highly recommend: Ashton VSG (in particular, the torpedo) Tatajue red label (inexpensive, rolled in Tampa, and in my opinion the closest thing you can buy to a Cuban that is not from Cuba) CAO Sopranos (believe it or not, the cigar is great-and IMHO they would be better off getting rid of the cheeky packaging and letting the cigar stand on its own Padron 1964 anniversario (not as strong as the 1926 series, and a lot less money) Oliva V (get the gordo-60+ ring gauge of wonderful, smooth cigar) Partagas Limited Reserve (hard to get) As for Cubans, when they are right, there is nothing like them-however, note that Cubans (when they are real) have quality control issues and taste similar regardless of brand...I have had Cohiba Siglo VI's that were unbelievable, and others that are plugged or non-smokable. As a rule, Cohibas are a little stronger than Romeos...
Count me in on this smoke circle! Brought a couple to the games last year, including a Cohiba from Havana sometime in September. Passed it around. Enjoyed it.
Does the Barra like cigars - does a bear shit in the woods? (after RizBo is born, I'm the one picking out the cigars. )
Riz, you know the phrase "Is the pope Catholic?" Well I've got an old friend who just loves to intersperse the two. As in "Is a bear Catholic?" and "Does the pope shit in the woods?" Funny stuff. Especially when people try to educate him when he knows full well the right phrases.
Actually....isn't it tradition for Natty to pass them out after Rizbo is born right? Either way....I've got a Cuban for you guys whenever you're ready. Let me know.
Courtney and I are avid cigar smokers as well. I mostly prefer Nicaraguan maduros, Padron , CAO, or Hoya De Nicaragua Antonas. She tends more toward Perdomos, like the 6x60 Habano maduro. I also occaisionally like a nice healthy La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero. This is a pretty meaty smoke, eclipsing the Opus-X. Mark
