Re: Are we gonna beat "Team DP" on Saturday?

Teams that give up don't normally sub out a defender for an attacker and switch to a 3-4-3 for the last twenty minutes; the team may not have executed the attack well over those last twenty, but certainly didn't throw the towel in.

Just watched the highlights.. Deuchar got hosed on the offsides call. He was clarly onside. rimando's save on landycakes was very impressive.

Hey guys great game, your team did a good job of trying to keep Landon away from the ball. What are you going to do with those goals from Becks, he has scored those in La Liga and EPL so no shame to rimando. From reading some of your post I was surprised because I thought you would win it in the end with our shaky defense. Good luck on the season.

    My take on the game:
Happy Birthday Espy...and way to GOAL!!!

The good Doctor gave us the best header goal since Dunny.

Beckham...I don't like him...I hate his voice...his wife is hot...he hangs out with Tom and Katie...but dang it all he can shoot.

WINGERT! Beckham earns a little over $5,000,000 (£2,500,000) a year. STICK ON HIM! Who cares who is off to your left...STICK ON BECKHAM!

Kenny, set up an appointment with the east side referee's assistant. He needs his eyes checked. Game changing offsides, that should have been a no call.

HOLY CRAP GREEN GUY! If you don't want someone to yell at your idol Landon Donovan, get an usher in orange to get him to sit down, don't try to throw down with him. That is the reason 20,000 people turned on you, and sided with the RSL FAN (which sir, you are definitely not). Take your green shirt and go to a Bees game.

Beltran is awesome. Kreis, I don't care if Wingert has naked photos of you, Joy would have at least chopped Beckham down.

Should have been 3-2 RSL. Great 30 minutes. Whole new team, great attitude better play, but same result. Needs to be fixed. We as fans are tired of 1 point at home, and 0 on the road.

I agree, he played extremely well, kind of like with the U20's, they should have taken off wingert instead of Tony.
I thought that Deuchar was clearly offside, but I guess i have to see the replay, RSL is playing some great football.
The best part of the match were the 2 becks goals, simply amazing, it made a guy in front of me who was yelling at becks shut up.
Great game, I support RSL, but not against my Gals.

If the assistant had his eyes checked he would have waived Kenny offside on RSL's second goal.

If RSL falls behind 1-0 in the 7th minute they wilt. If they fall behind 2-0 after 30 minutes they often quit. Why can't RSL turn the tables?!

At home we should do better than maintain a draw.

I hate it when people imply that Beckham scores 2 goals every game and there's nothing we can do.

Same old RSL. creating chances, best 30 minutes of soccer ever, when A and B happen then we'll be unstoppable.

I applaud JK for stating that the fans are disappointed. The circus fans are not going to become regular RSL fans/repeat buyers if the team doesn't win at home.

Coming soon to the "Former RSL Player 'where are they now'"= Yura M.

I liked Beltran's play as well. He did some nice things out there. However, can someone help me on this: wasn't he partially to blame on both goals: failed clearance on Goal#1, and ill-advised pass to Kovalenko that led to Goal#2? Someone correct me if I'm wrong - I didn't have the greatest vantage point and I neglected to record the game, but those were my initial impressions.

Some post game quotes and lots o' pics - Keepin' it Real. Here are a couple of samples.

Let's face it Rimando is easy to beat if you shoot high. In case you hadn't noticed he's short. Both of Beckham's goals would have been easily saved by a taller goalie. Same with Blanco's goal in the first game, Blanco's goal last year, Chivas' goal against us last year at home, the miss hit cross that flew in goal last year, and the list goes on and on. Rimando makes those goals look spectacular by diving at them. Rimando is great if you shoot low, but holy crap block a shot above your waste once and awhile. If I played against Rimando every shot I took would be a dipping high ball. If it's on goal it is in.

Beckham's free kick was not even near the corner and it was 35 yards out. I'm sick of hearing how great Rimando is. Block a shot that it out of your reach once and awhile. How good is a goalie if he get's beat on every decent high shot. If I put together a highlight reel of all Rimando's bad saves it would look horrible. Two or three diving saves doesn't make up for getting beat high every other game. Rimando is a liability. It's time for Seitz.

We really need to practice corners...we have height in there.-
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

we also need to practice changing fields. If you look at the game the left side was always opened because beckham doesn't play defense. There were times kyle was waving his hands to change the field and get it left. It is on the right way too much. The defense converges on morales and williams.

By the way I agree on Yura. Yura is not even a soccer player. He plays like he is blindfolded out there. On the cross he shanked from Williams. Beckerman was sitting wide open on the 18. Would have been a for sure goal. Yura still has no idea he was ever there.

Espindola looked great. Duechars looked solid. Olave and Borchers make a good combo on defense. Dema is solid at D-mid. Williams and Morales looked good out there.

Talley had his best game tonight. Not one blunder. I think Kreis should keep him right where he is.

Aside for the game being fixed... I kid I kid LA fans.

JK needs to learn that he is the only one who can boss the game. It seems RSL's half time adjustment was to play slower after 5 minutes. It was clear that several players were spent after 65, Andy being one of them. The game was at a tipping point and it begged for better possession by the RSL midfield. Kreis changes formation and adds two strikers? The midfield goes to crap, the forwards cannot get the ball except for isolations. Thank goodness LA fell in love with the kicking the ball forward on counters. RSL stops crossing the ball. With 2 +3 minutes left in the game, Kreis brings on Cordoba?

Being the boss is looking at the field, seeing the play, and understanding what changes need to be made to tip a game in your favor. Cordoba in for Andy at 65 to 70 minutes would of brought in a player who strengths could bring RSL more possession- more play along the wings, more crosses for Kenny, more trouble for a disorganized LA defense. I would of changed the formation to 4-5-1 to spread LA more by dropping Espindola in the hole and allow Morales to roam. At 75 minute I would changed Wingert for Joy and let the youthful exuberance of Beltran to run up the wings overlapping Cordoba while Kyle makes diagonal runs. This gives two primary targets moving forward: Dr. Goals with a cross and Kyle along the ground. Both Espindola and Morales could conserve energy and lurk around the box for a knock down from Duecher or a short pass from Kyle. If RSL had not scored by the 82nd minute, then I would bring Findley on 82nd minute and change to a 4-4-2, The focus of this formation would be to pressure LA into an error (not hard) and spring out Findley behind the LA defense. If RSL is ahead, then Findley's job is to take the ball to the corner.

Again this tie is due to an inexperienced bench. Kreis is going to be a good coach one day. I think he would be a great 2nd or 3rd assistant coach. Kreis has a lot of tools, but needs to be tutored on how to see the game as a coach. Kreis' move to add two strikers in a match like this drips with so much juvenile Id that all Ruud had to do was sit backed. Why? RSL could self destruct at any moment with the personnel on the field and he does not have a reliable bench. Thank goodness RSL's backline has two proper and calm centerbacks; if it was Eddie Pope trying to cover for some other crap back, then LA would of had two goals late and all of RSL's points heading to LA.

I absolutely disagree (not about Nick being short), but both of those goals were world class. The first goal struck side netting, and nobody is going to stop that one - the placement was superb. On the free kick it was a wonderful ball over the wall that had alot of movement on it. The wall was to the right of Rimando and the ball was placed to the right. Rimando (or any keeper) is primarily worried about his left in that situation. Very few, if any, keepers would have stopped that. Of the two, the second was probably the most capable of being stopped.

Dunlap - we were also noticing that Bomma was sucking wind early in the 2nd half. The problem is with Sturgis hurt, and Talley out of the mix, Cordoba and Cutler were the only real midfield options left. I think Cutler is an emergency at best. Cordoba is just starting to earn the confidence of Kreis. Since the substitution of Findley left us in a 3-4-3, Andy was left with an important defensive responsibility which the veteran can reasonably handle. I'm not sure Kreis yet has the confidence to put Matias in this position for an extended stretch. I thought Kreis did a good job of putting the right personnel on the pitch, and clearly made offensive minded substitions when he could have elected to protect the draw.

That's what I thought, until I saw the replay.

There was one bad call that mattered in the match: What should have been Dr. Goal's 2nd for RSL's 3rd goal. Kenny was onside.

There was one no call that could have been a PK against Bourchers (I think) when Beckham was cut down on the slide tackle in the box. On replay, if a PK had been called, I wouldn't have felt it was a bad call. I'm surprised that LA fans are screaming about it. Maybe I'm seeing things.

So, in the end, the draw (whether it be 2-2 or 3-3) is the fair result.

My Lack of God, RSL1! Rimando is a completely fine goal keeper. If it were so easy to beat him with high shots don't you think that every team would simply shoot high to beat him? It isn't as if he's some new goalie that the league is learning tendencies about, therefore learned to shoot high. Rimando's keeping weaknesses and strengths aer a completely known quantity. If he were a simple to solve keeper he would have had his butt handed to him in game after game last season. But, no, that isn't the case. He has one of the highest save rates in the league. He's not easy to beat, far from it.

Those goals from Beckham were amazingly sweet, disguised as crosses with extraordinary curl dipping them into the upper inches of the far post of the goal. Jumping, Rimando can do. But nobody can jump effectively while also backpeddling, which is what was needed for both Beckham goals.

Wow... that was weird to read, I had to respond.

I have a question for everyone. I was in the north endzone last night so I couldn't tell for sure what happend. In stoppage time last night, it looked like Beckerman got taken down in the box. Since no one else has talked about it yet, I am guessing it wasn't as bad as it looked from where I was at. Was he fouled, and if he was, was he in the box?

I agree on the world class strikes by Beckham. Not much Nick could have done with either one of them. I do think it was an iffy call on Dema that gave them the free kick. But I think a lot of people knew what was coming. As they were setting up the wall, I leaned over to my wife and told her Beckham was going to score goal.

Didn't notice when it happened. I will have to review the game on my DVR to see that one. If that is the case then that is a big miss by the ref to allow the goal.

The radio feed from KALL the announcers that it was being signaled an indirect kick but then they said the referee changed his signal just before the kick. That may have made a difference in how RSL was set up for defense, particularly Rimando.

I'm as disappointed as everyone else is that we didn't win last night, but let's look at some positive notes....

    1) Landycakes didn't run straight down the middle, beat 2 defenders and slip one past Rimando. Beckham's first goal was unstoppable. Yes we could have closed on him and pressured, but my god!

    2) We were creating a lot of opportunities, and for a team that has looked offensively anemic lately it was great to see

    3) I'll take Andy starting every game. I don't care if he's sucking wind at 65 minutes, for those minutes he gave us exciting and creative attacking football

    4) Kudos to Kreis for that starting line-up. He's not perfect by any means, but last nights starters means he's paying attention. If I'm not mistaken, he took most of the line-up from the USOC game that was working well.

    5) Findley and Movsisyan strike fear in the hearts of NO ONE. We need some offensive fire-power to come on late in the game, not STONE FEET and SELFISH.

While I am pissed that we only got a point out of that, RSL did look good in the first 20 mins. Also, that was a totally blown call on Deuchar, he was clearly on. RSL should have been 3-2 at the half. Bad linesman, bad!

At least we had both forwards scoring. If only we can get Findley and Yura to figure out some things.

And I agree with many of you, shutting down Donovan was huge.

Did anyone feel Cordoba did anything in his first 3 mins of league play?

I rarely get sick, and I also rarely buy tickets ahead of time - so of course both of these things happened yesterday. Then I realized too late that I don't get channel 5.3. So first some observations based on reading the feedback here and watching the highlights, and next a question:

Observations: It looked like a truly exciting match. It sounds like the second half went scoreless not for lack of good shots. Nice to have Espindola and Deuchar on the pitch together again. Too bad the third goal was called back.

And the question: How was the crowd? Obviously, 25,500 is a great number, but my brother (who took his girlfriend to the game with my ticket!) said the stadium was louder for the Beckham goals. At the same time, from the highlights I couldn't even hear Samba Gringa, but I did think I could make out some RSL chanting instead. Comments anyone?
