Just an observation, but that is going to be the finest stadium mls may ever see.

I definitely recommend checking out the 3D representation. It is going to be sick watching MLS games at Qwest. (Especially if they can get it to full capacity consistently for the lower bowl with Toronto-esque enthusiasm).

The key too is that they are going to tarp off the upper level which, IMO, makes a HUGE difference and doesn't make the stadium look so empty.

Tarp off the top and fill this place up and it will be another fortress. Good for you guys!

Nothing beats watching an MLS game on the tube when you can see that the home fans are really in to the match. It is just inspiring and I think makes all the players better - home and visitor alike.

    Go Seattle Go!!:D

********ing awesome, I'm really glad they're tarping off the top, that was one of my biggest concerns.

What are the supporters sections? Do you need to go through ESC to get tickets there? I'm moving to Portland soon and I'm going to have to get season tickets.

Tarping off the top will have very little effect in my opinion. Not to take away from seattle's accomplishments.

    Great Job.

    That is an amazing number.

Its looking like there is no way Seattle will play anywhere else other than Qwest.

Those fans who were around in the early years in MLS remember massive tarps very well. They don't do that much.

What will be more important is how well the overhang from the second deck tends to separate it to the eye from the first deck, so that your attention is drawn to the relatively full deck at the bottom rather than the empty one at the top.

The second link is very useful in getting a feel for what the empty stadium will look like from various positions:
    http://www.seats3d.com/mls/seattle_sounders_fc/

The overhang from the upper deck comes down to about row I for 200 level seats and the roof overhang ends in row M or so on the 100 level.

Also, from those renderings, it looks like they are planning on tarping the Hawk's Nest and the upper part of the south endzone only.

I was referring to the dimensions which were obviously based on a gridiron field.

For those who are worried about the upper decks being highly visible during televised matches.... I suggest watching the game next Saturday on USLlive. The slope of the stands and the camera angles make the upper decks nearly invisible during televised games.......... even the Seahawk games. Seattle has begun their ticket sales process and we'll have numbers about conversion in the coming weeks. When I talked to my ticket rep he said they have been inundated with calls by people wanting to get their seats secured. That's a good sign. It will also provide a boost for additional sales due to the price structure being announced. Another brilliant move is "locking" in prices for three years is a person chooses to do so. That's with no additional cost just an "ok".

What good is an invisible tarp that allows you to see the seats underneath it?

The upper deck at Qwest Field is exactly like a second roof. It won't be like the stadiums such as the Rose Bowl which are just one deck with a zillion rows. The tarps looked bad in those stadiums.

As far as I am concerned, tarps are not necessary for the upper deck. The first Sounders game to open Qwest Field back in 2002 had a full lower deck and an empty upper deck. It looked fine in person, and you won't ever see the upper deck on TV.

If it's windy, the tarps will look silly and distracting. Especially the one covering the Hawk's Nest.

In the Mutiny's situation I will tend to disagree. With the tarps at Houlihan's, 13K would look good on TV and the crowd was compact. Once the Mutes moved to Raymond James there were no tarps and the crowd was spread around the stadium. The games were never the same and soon after the team was gone. Of course I am not saying that the team folded over the lack of tarps but tarps did make a difference IMHO.

It is my understanding based on interviews and the photos presented at the press conference that the upper decks will be tarped off as well as the Hawks next. I wouldn't go by the photos on ticket site.

If we go by the photos on the ticket site, it looks like the Sounders will be playing on a 55-yard wide field with a compressed penalty area. :)
