I went to the game with my 4 1/2 year old daughter and we had a great time. She spent the first half hour yelling at our guys to quite giving the ball to the orange team. (Did I tell you all of her tactical acumen?) When a four year old knows you are stinking up the HDC its time to make changes, and kudos to Ruud for making them.

Now I am not the first guy to be dead wrong about Franchino, but props to him for coming into the 2nd half and adding some bite to our midfield. I said before the game that Davis, Mullin, DeRo and Clark are maybe the best midfield we'll see this year and certainly best in the West. I'm still not sold on Randolph as LM but I'm willing to been proved wrong. Franklin looked great on the outside coming forward. Gordon and Tudela contributed nothing and I would like to see Allen wide again after he is healthy. I thought Buddle had one of his better games and should have had a goal or two except for some poor refereeing and some brilliant goal line clearances. Yes, he fluffed a wide open header in the 1st half but I'll take more of those performances until Ruiz is back.

My daughter's 2nd half highlights were all centered around the throwing of confetti, and she was disappointed to not get a third opportunity. After the Ianni cheap shop on Donovan she learned a few new vocabulary words from the fans in our area, but none that her mother doesn't already know and use. Her other big disappointments included the absence of any of the Galaxy jersey/short sets in her size at the Team LA store and the fact that she missed the "snack man" coming down our aisle one last time in the 2nd half.

The best part for both of us was walking back to the car and getting a BWHD. She and I found a vendor at the corner of Victoria and Avalon right near 7/11 so we grabbed a drink and sat down on the grassy berm to enjoy a bacon wrapped delight. I told my wife later that as a father of two little girls that is as close as I can come to a truly memorable father/son moment. Oh, and when the Liverpool fan next to me asked her what her favorite team was, she pulled up her Galaxy T-shirt to reveal a MUFC jersey and proudly proclaimed "Manchester United!" I explained that she obviously knew who was playing better soccer these days.

I hope that we can put together some 90 minute performances soon because Saturday was a glimpse of everything that is both wrong and encouraging with this year's team. I suspect LD and Becks will continue to shine but how many bad goals will we have to give up? I think this team can make the playoffs. I sure hope we start playing better.

One last item. My daughter had a ball in the concourse before the game shooting and dribbling and listening to the music and eating food but the highlight for her was meeting Julie Bornemann, Miss LA Galaxy 2008. This young lady is a class act and someone the organization should be very proud of. Watching her interact with kids is amazing. I wish this young woman all the future success in the world.

I liked the efforts from Randolph and Buddle especially. Not an outstanding game for either by any measure, but each generated some very exciting play. Both were unlucky not to have goals. Buddle multiple. Nice to see the heart. Difference makers.

The grit from Donovan is something I haven't seen in a while. I've said it before and I'll say it again, he's looking for a way out of the MLS. Could be a twenty goal season barring injuries. And that'll bode well.

doubt it. his wife works in LA and her show is doing relatively well. landon has shown to be the type of person who doesn't like being away from his family.

    Hello,

    I have a short question:

Which position had Babayaro played in the match against Seoul?

1.) Babayaro LB and Randolph LM?

    -----or----

2.) Babayaro LM and Randolph LB?

    Thanks!

It would be nice to have more replays on the "Big Screen". My son's high school has a nicer screen than at HDC. Lets get a couple more Big Screens that are brighter and that everyone can see. This one looks like a hand me down from the first Diamond Vision the Dodgers had.

I went to the ducks game (RIP) and they have 6 screens for the game. The screens are amazing and are bigger than HDC. 6 bigger screens to our one. You would think with all of that $15 parking revenue they could afford it.

BTW. The game totally felt like a win. I still don't trust Cronin and wonder how he ever got him mug on my season tickets. Donovan and Becks are only going to get better and when Ruiz comes back it will just give Becks more options with the ball.

Lastly what is up with Becks not getting the ball over the wall on the free kicks. I have seen him do it several times now.

We all know Bianca and Landons devotion to family. I still say he's positioning himself for a move.

Our only saving grace is that LD is small and would get knocked around in Europe, therefore he is staying in MLS with the LAG. He is the face of US soccer and the LAG and that goes a long way if you are already making just under $1,000,000 a year and get extra money from sponsors. He'd be pissed off riding the pine in the BPL as a 3rd or 4th option.

Smaller guys have been successful in Europe before - Maradona, Messi, Ji Sung Park, etc., but you're right - he's happier here, playing in his home country, near his friends and familiy, and because of the fact he gets top billing - over in Europe, it could've been a different story. Wasn't he mostly benched for his time in the Bundesliga?

Our only saving grace? Dude, if Landon wanted to go abroad he could. If Eddie Johnson and Clint Dempsy (ok player, good player) can go to a premiership team, Landon could no problem. He doesn't really need to impress anyone at this point to go abroad and make 3 times the money he is making now and get his share of playing time. (I'm talking mid-table teams, obviously not the elite teams)

The dude is making his career decisions based on what he thinks would make him and his family happy. More power to him. The only thing that I don't like about it is that I think at the end of the day he'll be slightly less of a player then he could have been. So what? it's his choice and he'll still be the USA's best player ever.

I agree, let the kids have some fun. I was in the GA section and did see those beach balls. They were tossed around by kids. 90 minutes is a very long time for kids. We can't expect them to sit still throughout the game.

I disagree with point # 1. Regarding that play, Landon didn't do anything wrong. His eyes were on the ball. The defender ran up from behind him to head the ball away. Landon doesn't have eyes on the back of his head. By the time the ball from Buddle got there, the defender was already in front of Donovan. Donovan couldn't push the defender out of the way because that would have meant a foul and the goal (if scored) wouldn't have been allowed.

Why does it matter? Baba's not even on the team anymore.

I'd say it has more to do with him being tired of the Galaxy being crap and challenging himself to prove he's a star just like Beckham.

This is for the PC-Game FIFA 08.

Please tell me only the positions from Babayaro and Randolph.

    Thanks

I'd say it has more to do with having a teammate that can and will lay the ball out perfectly for him several times a game. Without Beck's beautiful assists, Landon would likely be having his usual good, but not great season.

Landon has never been very good at creating his own shot (although he has gotten better recently) but he is awesome at quick combo passing and running onto through balls. It has to be encouraging to him to have someone on the team who can play that kind of game.

Wish I could find the article, but more recently he has expressed interest in giving it a go again. If my memory serves, England was first choice.

hardly surprising Spry, England is one of the top leagues in Europe (and he will make a lot more money also)

I thought it was Spain. I remember watching an interview where they asked him that, but I don't remember reading an article. I think the dude from Galaxy deportivo asked him about Spain. I can't remember exactly...
