It was an off game for Landon, even with the two goals. In our situation we need to score 3 or 4 cause the other team for sure is going to score twice. Our central D is horrible. Franklin seems pretty solid but Vanney and X are too old and slow now. Vanney really ********ed up today. We have a ton of rookies out there and they'll grow. The majority have potential, but it really sucks seeing pete, buddle and X on the bench. What is that like $450 a year on all 3? Plus you add vanney there and it's $600 of worthless space. Maybe its time to get valentin some time in the middle with Franklin, he can't be worse then Vanney. I like Ruud and Cobi, but I mean cmon! There had to be changes in this game. The Gordon for Buddle sub looked like a given, till Buddle came in and walked around for 15 minutes absolutly screwing up the only chance he had on goal. You're paid $150,000 to put that in! But getting back to Ruud and Cobi, cobi needs to step up and say, "Hey Ruud, Vanneys a little slow and Cunningham is a pretty fast guy that always seems to score on us, why dont you have franklin mark him cause he'll atleast keep up with him!" I dont know, maybe its just me, but I feel that the coaching decisions today weren't very great either. Pete? really? Tied and you bring in Pete? Eh. Oh well. Hate to see the G's lose, especially like that but this had Toronto win all over it after minute 45.
It was great to see Vanegas go in as a sub today; he stood still and let that ball drop and bounce when he could have went after it.... instead it was played through to Cunningham, who burned Vanney and went by our AYSO keeper. Give me three Cubans, and I don't mean cigars.
I might get flamed for this, but I do believe that this time around, the "setting" of where the game took place definitely had an affect on performance, even more so than Colorado (they were talking about the altitude as if the team was trying to scale Everest). If you look at the weather guide, it was around 92-96 degrees outside - absolutely BURNING. If that doesn't wear you out when you run around for 90 mnutes, I don't know what will. Judging by the number of empty seats, the fans felt the pinch too - both in their wallets and in their toasting asses D). I know the weather isn't a valid excuse for how the team played, but, it certainly didn't help and only went to make it worse by making the guys sluggish. Considering how slow Vanney and Gordon are in cool temperatures, adding on the sun is like adding ball and chains to snails. With that said, off with the heads!
Hey everyone.... It was great to see Vanegas go in as a sub today; he stood like a statue and let that ball drop and bounce when he could have went after it.... instead it was played perfectly through to Cunningham, who burned Vanney and went by our AYSO keeper. Give me three Cubans, and I don't mean cigars.
Back from the game, it was sickening to lose that one. 2 things: - Buddle looked somewhat promising. Big & strong & worked & some nice touches. Gordon was a great target forward today and held up & distributed very well. - Franklin was covering Cunningham very closely when he first came in. Franklin won 2 or 3 one-on-one challenges. Then, inexplicably Vanney was covering him. For 5 minutes I was waiting for that one to go very bad, and then it did. That is on Vanney & it's on Ruud & Cobi - they should know better. Oh, last thing - who didn't know we would lose when Pete came in. We need something off the bench on a hot day like that. I'd suggest Tudela or Gavin for Allen, who didn't do much, even before he wore out. Or the Buddle sub should have been for Allen, not Gordon.
I think our problem this time around is that, for a veteran "leader" in the back, Vanney wasn't doing much leading. For most of the game, we were doing a terrible job with the offside trap that we seemed to be halfheartedly attempting. Whenever Toronto played the ball forward, three defenders would step up... and Vanney would always be the one keeping a TFC player onside. That's not what you want to see in the player who's supposedly organizing the defense. We need to either play an offside trap, or play safe. That means either Vanney steps, or everyone else stays back. Either way, someone should be talking. As it is, we're just giving the opposition chances to isolate our slowest defender 1v1.
Don't start with that. Toronto played on the same field with the same weather. We are at home. There is no way we should ever use the weather at home as an excuse.
Wow that sucked. Well here comes another week of trying to stand up for my team. jeez My dad gave me a hard time. It always goes back to "wow so you paid how much for beckham? with that money you could of bought a decent team."
Oh yeah? thats nothing compared to the likes of what I have to deal with: I have cousins in Toronto, one of whom works here in Downtown LA, I have cousins in Buenos Aires who make fun of my Galaxy love, and finally, I have cousins in South Korea who do the same as my cousins in Argentina. I have family in FOUR COUNTRIES making fun of me .
I hear it from people htat don't even know or like anything about soccer. Even casual sport fans know the Galaxy are shit.
He's right. The amount Beckham counts against the salary cap could buy 4 or 5 good to very good MLS starters. Think about it, how many rookies and past their prime players did we start today, all because our salary cap is wrapped up in 3 players? Beckham is not worth what we are getting on the field!!!!!!! Sell him back to Europe and bring in some good MLS level talent. I don't want to be a superclub, I want to be a winning MLS club.
I would agree, once again the la defense letus down. 2nd goal was almst enough to break your heart. He makes the save only to have a header do him in. Overall both teams played well enough to win n the end.
Dont mean to pick on you but we had X, Pete and Buddle on the bench today. Thats $450, 000 worth of lost money. Apart from that we had vanney on the field getting paid $100,000 to screw up time after time. This isn't Beckham's fault. He had some great passing and sprang landon 1v1 a few times. If anything it's our ************ management who let go of Sturgis, Findley, Ihemelu, Gomez, Albright, Marshal, and wouldn't give Harden enough money to stay on the team. It isn't our big 3 ********ing up, its our middle 6-figure contract players who aint doing shit on the field as starters or coming off the bench who should be getting blamed, not beckham.
your dad is right...not like beckham is a bad player....hell, he and dono are probably tops in the league when they play well.....just for the amount he is worth in "trade bait" we could get de-ro and half of houston, or twellman and a few others from New England. I dont know what the problem is to be honest....San Jose/Houston have won a lot of titles with 2 or 3 Great by MLS standard players.....Calgon take me away!
You know, I think the things that bites at me the most is that our team is finally playing the attractive, attacking soccer that people have been clamouring for since the end of the Sigi Schmid days. It's kind of unfortunate though that we had to destroy our defense to get to this point though isnt it.........
Pete played only a few minutes but his effort today looked like he was playing the full 90. Buddle has no fight for the ball and gives up on the play too easily.
I do think the weather was a factor (it was 99 degrees in the sun when I got back to the car). To someone who asked about fans, there were actually a lot of people there, but most had moved out of the sun into the shade before halftime. Strategically, on a day like this you don't want to chase the game, you want to get out to a lead and pick your spots. Galaxy screwed themselves when they let Toronto put the first one in against the run of play and then continued to let Toronto just play patient. I like that they came out attacking. I don't like how vulnerable our defense is to moments of ineptitude. Additionally our subs were useless. You need effective subs on a day like this. Buddle and Vagenas looked lethargic and tentative and were immediate downgrades at their position, even compared to players who'd put in 70 minutes in the sweltering sun. What a really a miserable loss that highlighted our failings as a team: all offense, no defense - we had a dominating amount of possession and many chances, but if we don't finish efficiently we lose because we just needlessly give up too many chances; we have no depth, too much salary wasted on players who aren't really contributing: Xavier, Buddle, Vagenas. I don't want a repeat of last year (constant tinkering, the team never getting settled), and I don't necessarily think these guys are bad players, but I can't help but thinking if these guys aren't seeing the field maybe it wouldn't be that disruptive if we made just one move to shore up the defense. I love that Buddle for Marshall trade today. Would Tyrone Marshall have been beaten by Cunningham like that at the end of the game? You know d*mn well he would have hatcheted him down long before Cunningham was anywhere near the box.
This is exactly what I was thinking. There was a play when Marshall completly hacked down Landon in the second half. Marshall may not be as fast or as effective as he use to be, but he'll atleast do ANYTHING not to let his man go by.
Thats what happens when you don't finish your chances. Before the first goal I was just about to tell my girlfriend that your always vulnerable to a counter attack after you blow a few sitters. We played well enough to get back in the game, but the second half was played in second gear. I don't care about the weather, Toronto played through it. We need a central midfielder, pires is beyond slow, and a central defender. I think we all know how lacking Vanney is. Sincerely, A frustrated season ticket holder
The weather was a factor in slowing the game down and that's it. Toronto played in the same weather as we did and beat us fair and square. I only watched the 2nd half but it seemed to me like Toronto finished every chance they had. I don't remember any other close opportunities for them.
