doubt the mechanics of things will allow it to happen that quickly but I bet it happens faster than most deals...

While he's here for a 1 week trial, it may not take that long for JCO to decide.

Here's a quote from Big Soccer's article Play Now or Wait 3 Months.

Osorio was smart. He faked left and turned right on this one. Chicago filed their discovery claim after reading about this on Ive's blog. :D

Anyone know when he'll be able to play for us? Our d-line is a disaster right now...

I believe he is playing in the Reserve game this week and then JCO will make a decsion on whether to offer him a contract or not.

I think he will and could be the end of Mendes who we might shop for some allocation $$$.

We have in our defense *arsenal* *cough* if we sign him:

    Parke
    Leitch
    Brunner
    Freeman
    Sassano
    Stammler (if needed)
    Innes
    Goldy
    Mendes(might be gone though).

We do have some depth, but with Innes we have more quality so that bench will be only used in really desperate situations.

Let me go on the record now and say that I hate the 3-5-2 formation. It makes me nervous. I hope we sign Innes because he might be able to provide some experience to the back line. I would love to see this formation (when every one is healthy) all the time...in stead of just away games.

    Conway
    Freeman--Parke--Innes--Goldy
    **Sassano/Etchivary--Stammler--Reyna---Richards
    Angel--Jozy

**LM is a ? only because as of now we dont really have anyone to fill that besides Borman and he was piss poor last nite. Sassano and Etch could be a good fit there Sassano has shown some promise in his crossing ability and Etch has good pace so for me its a toss up at that position.

Rooney we'll see I don't know if you put solid defenders in a back 3 it will work fine it just comes down to quality..Once we get some players back we'll see. But I'm done with speculating cause my talk won't change the line up it's Osorio's job thats what they pay him to do :p

Does anyone think if NYRB offered Chicago Carlos Mendes for the rights to Marmol that they would turn it down? Does anyone think that is a crazy idea? I think it might make sense on both sides.

Chicago is not interested in what makes sense. They have made it very clear that they will not deal with Red Bull on anything.

Besides, your logic is slightly flawed. They turned down $100,000 in cash. Why would they accept a player who isn't seeing any playing time for us?

Just because JCO doesn't feel like Mendes is that great a player (evidenced by his lack of playing time) doesn't mean every other team in the league agrees. I for one believe he should be starting for this team. If I was a part of the Chicago Fire Management team I would trade the rights to an unknown for someone that I know can play in this league. The risk would be all on NYRB's side. Marmol hasn't proven anything. Mendes has been a very solide defender in this league for a few years and has a very low salary cap number. It's a better offer than the $100,000 because they may be having a hard time identifying players to sign. This is basically identifying the player for them. I realize the real reason nothing will happen here is because Chicago's owner HATES JCO and it's that simple. Foolish but simple.

According to Big Apple Soccer, Chris Innes is not in JCO's plans and has gone back to Scotland:

RED BULLS UPDATE: Innes is gone; an offer for Obster

    So.

Innes is pretty decent, but Osorio doesn't want him

I'm guessing "Special type of defender," is OsorioSpeak for "One with slightly swarthy hue"

We'll see what the Special One will bring in cause he's God dam demanding, but that's better in the long run maybe he's really wanting to build a side not just a one and done type of team.

It could very well mean that - although generally if it is money, JCO is usually upfront about that

I think what makes this worse is that since this has been the ONLY trade/signing that has had any potential and now its gone. If Innes was just another guy. Now we have no one to look forward to with any real evidence of them coming on to the team.

n a group of 3 or 4 decent prospects then we wouldn't be so hurt by this. Having never seen him play I can't say he was what we needed to save our back line. Lets hope that JCO has some idea of what he is doing by not signing him. At this point if we had no other options before the trade deadline then I would've signed him just for depth on the bench if for nothing else.

Well now that we lost him as an option why don't we go stand in line for Ronaldinho with Inter Man City and AC Milan. Maybe Sven can teach JCO something about signing players. We wouldn't have a chance of course but maybe we can get him to sign our defenders jerseys so we will at least have something of value in the back line. :D

While the Red Bulls are now looking at an Argentine Defender by the name of Guillermo Imhoff, Ives says that Innes is still being considered:
