No doubt. Columbus hasn't taken advantage either.

    FT. New York 2-0 Columbus.

Was expecting a rout but it's still a lot better than 0-0 in last season's opener.

Three in the back does well. 3-4-3 with Angel, Altidore and Echeverry up top would be awesome.

VDB man of the match IMO great crosses....great connecting passes...played defense when called upon and of course the goal.

Team looks better than I expected, but we need to improve on somethings.

Great game. NYRB look pretty good, except for the rooks. I cant wait to see what this team can do with angel, alti, richards, and etcheverry can do on the field together.
VDB looked awesome. Im glad NY decided to keep him

Good game overall although I wasn't inpressed at all with Sassano. And as soon as Sinisia came out to start the second half, we started to lose the midfield.

That's it? Looking around the stadium I thought that we would have at least 20,000. ESC looked great tonight though. 101 was full all the way to the top of the section except for the last few rows. The rest of the crowd was getting into the game too which was good to see and hear.

Just got back from the game and I think it was a pretty good game and obviously a good way to start the season. I was really impressed with VDB and I thought he was the MOTM. I also really like Echeverry. I think Osorio is a very good coach and he definitely outcoached Sigi tonight (but I'm not sure if that means much). Sassano and Borman didn't really stand out much. Suprisingly, Goldthwaite and Leitch were pretty good. Dissapointed about Parkes red card but I think Mendes can fill in well for him next week.

As for Osorios signings, I think that if we get a left winger like Obster and put VDB in the middle with Reyna and Stammler or Sinisa or evn Marmol if we sign him and maybe sign another defender we would be in good shape especially when Richards and Freeman get healthy. I know its an overly optimistic outlook and just like always Metro will dissappoint us but with the right moves I think this can be a very good team.

Yes I was pleasantly surprised with Goldy tonight. Him and Leitch did a good job in the back, and he even scored tonight.

I just got back from the game too and I agree VDB was MOTM. He really seized the moment on that goal. I like Etcheverry as well but I wish he could use his left foot...he would be even more deadly. Goldy was
definitely better than last year but I still think Leitch will do something foolish and hurt us down the line. Reyna had some nice moves but he needs to do more for the amount of $ he is getting. Parke's 2nd yellow was unfortunate but he seems to have grown as a player. He makes better decisions passing the ball. It is obvious Osorio wants the Bulls to play a ground passing game... which the BUlls did well for the first 20 minutes. We really should have won this game 4-0...w/Angel's missed penal and his wide open shot saved by Hesmer. Sassano had moments of brillance but too many of his passes missed the mark. Sinisi impressed me as well... his positioning and passing have improved since last season... It was his pass that sprung VDB for the goal at 46 seconds. It was so nice for the BUlls to score early first after having that happen to them so many times in the past. On to Dallas!

Hi! I took my wife, son, and father in law to the game tonight. We are visiting from the Portland, Oregon area. I was glad to see the Red Bulls win, as you have to root for the home team, and in general I've always had a hard time getting behind Columbus. A few thoughts:

The first 35 minutes were pretty good, then it became a bit choppy. I was really impressed in the first half with the Red Bulls' passing. They seemed to really dominate Cbus for the first 35 minutes or so.

I didn't know ahead of time that Jozy was hurt. I was really looking forward to seeing him play in person, so I was quite disappointed to see Etcheverry out there. That may have colored my impression of Etchevary, but except for the dribbling run where he was pulled down for the penalty I thought he was pretty average. When Wolyniak, and then McGee came on I figured either Jozy was injured or he had kill the coach's dog in a satanic ritual on Osario's front lawn.

I was impressed with Stamler's ball winning. With the shaved head I had no idea who he was, and was a bit surprised when he got close enough for me to read his jersey. He may not have been much on offense, but it seemed he was doing a great job breaking things up in the midfield.

I liked most of what I saw from Reyna. He, Angel, and VDB had some really good combos that showed some real class. He also seemed to playing farther forward than I'm used to seeing, and I thought in general he did well.

This probably isn't the right board for it, but I was a bit disappointed by Rogers and Gavin. I especially thought Rogers would be more dangerous. I was seated in section 108, and I thought the one good thing about being there would be seeing Roger's up close during the second half. Then about 10-15 minutes in he switches sides. D'oh!

Overall I was pretty impressed with your team. I think you'll have a pretty good season, especially if Altidore can stay healthy and grow into his potential. Everyone in the stadium was friendly, and I'll definitely catch another game the next chance I get.

    Cheers!

Flea market, Nets game, construction. I'm not sure I'm willing to put up with all of that again to watch a match. 2009 can't come quick enough.

So who was the drunk guy?

I agree with you re: 2009...but there should be no more Nets games conflicting and the Flea Market is pretty innocuous (sic) so come back we need
to support our team.... BTW...I was the drunk guy! :)

It seemed like forever for the kickoff of our opener but it was worth the wait. Great team football by the guys tongiht, VDB MOM his super strike to open the game up and was very dangerous on the counter. I think we missed Richards on the right side tonight, Sasano didn't well at all, he seemed lost every time he went up with the ball and his crosses were less than adequate to say the least. Other than that we played very well and should have won 4-0 score but a win is a win. Lets Keep this up for the next game.

How sweet it is...........good weather AND a win on opening day. How many times have we been able to say that?

101 looked and sounded soooooooooooo good. With the sections on each side tarped, you stood out even more than usual. The very large group helped too. I really hope most of you who were there tonight will be in 101 every game.

You looked and sounded so good that the guys sitting next to me thought you were paid by Red Bull to stand there and sing all through the game...........seriously!

So, all you Goldthwaite and Leitch haters (VDB too), are you ready to give them a chance?

i don't know if the one-shoe chant survived, but a little girl in our section threw her shoe onto the pitch during half-time and her dad only discovered it just about the time angel was going for the pk. we were all yelling to try to get the yellow shirts to get the shoe, even yelled for woly, and got everyone in our section to start singing along to "a little girl lost her shoe". it was hilarious and reminded me of the revs game when the shoe went onto the field and security was trying to figure out where it came from. the little girl finally got her shoe back and angel missed! we all told the dad it was her fault! LOL.

what a great win. is it true it's our first home opener win EVER?!? it was sweet, especially with the stars and crisp air and NO RAIN!!! just the best!
