I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this.

That's what I thought at the time. No wonder Nik's face flshed like a kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar. These types of games remind me of the mind-numbingly frustrating games of last year. I'm hoping for the best at Anfield, but expecting the worst.

PS- that WAS a penalty on Hleb. Period.

I'm not sure what game you guys watched, but we were no more threatening than we were last week, or the week before that, or the week before that, or the week before that(see where I am going?).

Other than the cesc goal against bolton, we have hardly been able to score a goal from open play in an entire month.

Besides the call on hleb we weren't even close to scoring, despite holding so much possession and building up as painfully slow as we always do.

Hleb was fouled. What shocked me was that the ref was not more than 10 yards away from the incident.

I think the challenge of going to Anfield and coming out on top is much greater then when we went to Milan. Sure Milan are a good team but they are well past their prime. Everyone only gave them a chance based upon past credentials really. Who cares about the past, it has no bearing on the hear and now. Look at Milan domestically this season, they are doing very poorly, especially on home soil. As well they play a completely different style of football then Pool that suits us better and gives us more of an advantage. Finally they didnt score an away goal. Yes on paper they had the advantage having the return leg at home but they were still going to have to score to progress.

Pool are on fire right now. They have taken off domestically and look sure favorites to grab 4th spot. Perhaps third at the rate we are going right now as well and this weekends game i think will go a long way as to determining who grabs third versus fourth. As well our form right now is a long long way from where it needs to be at the run in to the season. It was dipping before Milan but hadnt sunk to the level it is at right now. Finally back to the away goal. Huge advantage for Pool. They can just sit back and shut up shop and again we have not been free scoring lately. As well it looks like RvP has taken another knock. It must have been bad enough to be taken off at half time or else he should have soldiered on. No pain no gain. It is the business end of the season and now we see what every team is really made of. I dont know im just not nearly as optimistic about heading to Pool as i was about going to Milan.

Lighten up a bit GFL. Didn't you see the  in my post? It was a joke man.

[OT: As for your Tivo comments, I'm afraid you are out of line. At the time you advised me to to add a hard-drive to my Tivo. When I was skeptical that Tivo would allow this, you then went ballistic. And as for my knowing how Tivo works, Tivo's own tech support admitted that their machines do sometimes delete stuff that's marked "save until I delete". And when the deletion in question was our historic win at San Siro, you of all people can surely empathize at my rant back then. I ignored your slander last time. Why don't you just give it a rest now, huh?]

It seems that at least some of the folks on here have learned from last round. Granted, I'm frustrated as hell right now, BUT...The San Siro didn't worry me and Anfield doesn't either. We are a superior side. We're unfortunately opting for the 180 min route despite having enough chances to put teams away in 90, but I've lost no confidence in this team.

Being able to play them right away this weekend actually makes me quite happy. If I were an Arsenal player, I would be licking my chops at the opportunity to make today right twice over in the span of 6 days.

Side Note: Liverpool's packing it in, though arguably effective in this case, was pathetic and disgraceful. I'll say this...like the 1st leg against Milan, our missed opportunities are our own mistakes/misfortunes. It's completely in our power to fix those errors for the 2nd leg. Liverpool can say that they defended well and had great strategy, but the point is that we still created enough opportunities to win this match. A similar performance next round should be more than enough to put them under.

Agreed. I think having another home game against them on Sat will help us prepare for the CL tie next week. I want to win on Sat, but it may be a good game to experiment with something new against them.

As much of a bummer as this match is, please, not so much pessimism. We outplayed the ******** out of them and will at Anfield. First 90 of 270 big minutes ends 1-1. Not the end of the world. We all know we should have easily had two more goals. The one we conceded was a fluke. We will crush them the next 180 minutes.

At least you lot decided to play football. I can't even put into words how dire that Lpool display was. I really hope you tonk them at the Kop - hell I don't care, I hope you do them on the weekend. I know as a United fan I shouldn't, but f**k it. They are an abomination.

    If there's a silver lining of RVP's re-injury  it's Walcott.

Theo showed that he can be effective for more than the few mins he's been getting recently.

In the last 2 matches, when he's come on, he's practically lit our offense on fire. He's oozes enthusiasm & energy. He was 2 feet away from a miracle goal.

Of course there's the squad thinness & tiredness problem which only get worse when another key player goes down, but I'm trying to be positive. :D

any word on what actually happened to rvp? i personally dont think it was that serious, and that wenger was willing to not risk him when you guys still have a string of key games to play. also, walcott's injection of pace did lead to more trouble. while i concede you guys were better in the first half, it was pretty close, but i think walcotts speed and movement off the ball is what helped open up the game for you in the second half.

honestly, i am just glad that there were no yellows that i can remember. it would have been lame if one of the sides had lost a key player or two in the second leg due to yellow accumulations. overall, i think the ref did a pretty good job, letting a lot of softer fouls go on both ends. honestly, the kuyt/hleb thing is one of those that could have gone either way. i think the no-call was consistent with the rest of the ref's decisions, and it was wise in that a refs call would not play a big part in the outcome of the tie.

    Yes.

And I've figured it out, Liverpool is Middlesbrough. Disgraceful play. Shit a goal in then sit back.

I don't think that comment is totally fair because football is a passionate game. When things go well people are jumping for joy, when things go bad people are down in the dumps. Supporting throughout the highs and the lows is what being a football fan all is about. Yes, people (myself included) may say rash things in the heat of the moment, or even dare I say exaggerate the plaudits when things are going well, but it just shows what a divisive game football is because it generates so many emotions.

Either way my ********ing Ass, obviously you're a Liverpool fan so of course you're not going to admit it. But Everyone else who saw it including every single commentator and analyst said it was a penalty.

I think we can get a result at Anfield but it won't be easy. Wenger needs to put out a better lineup. Too bad Sagna is out we could have used him today.

I feel that Bendtner was really weak in this game and not just for blocking a goal. His touch was poor and his pasing was weak.

We need to move on from RVP. We need to sign a Torres like goal scorer this summer to help Ade up front in addition to our need to potentially replace Flamini.

I hope Walcott gets the start for the next game.

Totally agree. We came 1 millimeter away from losing Clichy for the return leg... the ref had his hand on his pocket and then <huge relief> came to his senses... perhaps we have the AR to thank for that.

I'm begining to think you guys have never seen a liverpool game since we last played them.

Their bread and butter is churning out 0-0 games. They can be demolished easily when they know they have to attack, but when our shit defense gives up soft goals - guess what? Liverpool don't need to score at all - and they will sit back and play the most boring 0-0 you have ever seen.

You can't break this liverpool team down with an attack that builds up at snail speed, and with rvp, the only guy who looks like he can make a difference, out of this, I would be willing to put money on a 0-0 tie at anfield and an end to our season.

Umm...so what exactly is the argument here if I may ask?
I don't mean to be a dick, but...We outplayed you in the first half. Then you guys bunkered like a team who knew there was no way they could stay in it over another 45 minutes by trying to play an actual game of football. I guess I'm just having a hard time deciphering your point(s).

Also, that was an obvious penalty. I think you and the referee may be the only two people who don't think so, and he'll surely change his mind when he sees a replay.
