As per usual, no flames, trolls, yadda, yadda, yadda. Freedom need just three points to clinch a playoff berth. Could get it in one fell swoop with this game. Freedom pledge to whack everything that is wearing orange. They can smell blood. Has anyone figured out how many points they need to clinch a home playoff game?
Freedom website coverage: http://www.washingtonfreedom.com/376635.html At PAX request, the Freedom will be wearing road whites and the CyberWhatevers will be wearing home purple. Freedom CANNOT clinch a playoff spot with a win - Atlanta and Boston are ahead of them, and San Diego and Carolina could catch them. IThey could clinch a playoff spot this weekend depending on the results of the other games, though. For a home playoff, the Freedom basically need to beat out Boston (and Boston has the tiebreaker).
So now, it's WUSA that has black-and-white monitors in its TV trucks? Or is the signal for many PAX station so bad in the sticks? Any viewers in Idaho except for FearM9?
Maybe they were just trying to come up with a polite way of keeping the CyberRays from wearing the "pumpkin" uniforms.
So now they'll be the CyberGrapeS. And AN EVEN UGLIER UNIFORM!!!! IT'S THE UGLIEST OF THE SIX JERSEYS THEY HAVE EVER WORN! AAAAAUGH! HURT MY EYEBALLS!
This could really be a thread all its own (so, mods, if you feel a need to transfer this paragraph into its own thread, you'll get no argument here), but I was curious, do you all think that the WUSA ought to try to go the way of most of the rest of the world and just have a small team crest near the shoulder? Some logos in WUSA (and MLS for that matter) are really busy looking, and clutter the jersey, IMHO. As far as purple v. orange, I think orange is the lesser of two evils, although I wish it were more pronounced, like the shade the Dutch team uses. As far as which jerseys to wear on a given day, I think it sucks that PAX is requesting it, but hey, I'm sure other leagues have made similar concessions, so whatever.
I think WUSA and MLS are just following the "US pro sports model." Bigger is better. The flashier the better.
Hmmm...well, let's see. Most of the rest of the world has a big corporate sponsor logo in the middle of the jersey. Between a) having a large team crest in the center of the jersey and a small sponsorship logo near the shoulder and b) having a small team crest near the shoulder and a huge sponsorship logo splashed across the front of the jersey, I know which one I'd pick. (I mean, hell, the one thing that could make the SJ jerseys even worse than they currently are is a huge Plaxtex logo where the squid thing is.)
I must correct myself: the Freedom CAN clinch a playoff spot with a win. I neglected to consider that San Diego is playing Carolina this weekend, so that both teams cannot catch the Freedom (assuming a win) by winning the rest of their games. And just to clarify: the Freedom can't clinch a home playoff on their own; Boston needs to lose or tie at least once for them to get a home playoff, or else Atlanta needs to pick up fewer than four points from their remaining games.
