Re: Bring back the stripes effort A sponsor gets a FREE commercial everytime anybody shows a picture of any DC United player in the papers, or on TV, or on the internet - Its "value" certain won't cheapen IF we had put another sponsor on it for a few years before them - And its "value" would be enhanced if their logo had been preceded by United 4 DC Great mockups by the way - I think it would be a classy idea in the interim - But of course Adidas would have to project they could actually make and sell these in sufficient quantities to offset the expense - So it ain't gonna happen - Too bad - Classy idea
Re: Bring back the stripes effort Yes, I know. However, if they had dropped the Fire/Chicago label at the start of the year with the stated goal of gaining a corporate sponsor and then failed to have one realized it would look like a blank billboard. Unlike our current situation where is just looks sleeker/plainer/training jersey/whatever your opinion/etc... but not like there is supposed to be something there that is not. There is just room in case a sponsor manifests.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort Really? That's not at all the reaction I had. The moment I saw the new shirt in the Harbour View game, I thought "Hmmm, blank space. We must be close to getting a sponsor."
Re: Bring back the stripes effort You're probably right...I was just concerned that putting the team's own foundation on the front was along the lines of "This Space For Rent" but I'm probably over-thinking things.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort I guess it is just perception. Personally, I think everything would be more aesthetically pleasing if the jerseys were sans sponsor. Whereas, others are probably so accustomed to them that any jersey without appears to be lacking.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort Actually, it' not the 'jersey without the sponsor' look I was referring to. It was the 'jersey without a sponsor and with the stripes moved out of the way' look that was lacking.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort That one actually looks better than on the home jersey! Thanks! And on the issue of using the United for D.C. logo: The point is not to make a 'blank' jersey less so - I like the kit the way it is, personally. The point would be to follow the example of Barcelona, in honouring a charity organisation which is suported by the club - although United for D.C. is not exactly in the same league as UNICEF. It's supposed to be a positive thing, in helping to make a statement about the club - in that it makes a contribution to the underpriviliedged in its neighbourhood, and is proud to place the logo of that charity on its jersey. Granted, FCB have a lot more money to spare, and can afford a long-term deal with UNICEF in this regard - but even if it were only for a short time, it would be a worthy thing to see happen with D.C. United.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort So Blanco now plays for Best Buy, and not the Fire? Actually, those two shots confirm exactly what I think about jersey sponsorships - they suck.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort Not for the team. Get ready to be upset in terms of DC's uniform, I'd guess. I don't see any way United's shirts won't have a logo on them.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort Very good looking. Will it happen? I don't think so. Still, that looks really good. If United is still continuing to have trouble securing a sponsorship then this could be a good way to go. That's just what I think, though.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort Hmm... Why not then have text and the logo - the way the FCB jerseys have the UNICEF logo, with the word 'UNICEF' beside it?
Re: Bring back the stripes effort In that case, how about use the text (with the same font used in the logo) on the home jersey, and then use the logo (without the text) for the away kit?
Re: Bring back the stripes effort It could. The black wings don't look as good on a black background, compared to how they look on the white one. Plus, the logo would have more weight when United play away from home, there it would not be as quickly recognised as it might be when United play at home.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort I like our jerseys wiht that united for dc white font and lettering, Some times blank space looks bad like in our case.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort I agree with your points if there was any way this was going to happen. I really doubt there is.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort Well, there is one way to find out - by asking them. I emailed their Customer Service reps (dcucustomerservice@dcunited.com) with the idea (I didn't take credit for it, though) - but it was earlier in the day, so I didn't get to add the idea of using the font on one kit and the logo on another. If everyone here followed suit and sent such an email requesting it, maybe they will take it on board, or at least pass on the idea? Even if they say no, it's better than not trying.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort Goff says a foreign automaker is leading the way, and that an announcement may be coming soon.
Re: Bring back the stripes effort My money is on VW since they just moved their headquarters to Reston, and they used the same company to find that new HQ as Uncle Victor did in looking for stadium sites in Maryland.
