The ground was rocking when Sears and Noble came on and mass hysteria when Freddy scored. What a dream debut and a brilliant way to end the misery of last week. I notice all the media twats who were busy making 4-0 jibes are quiet all of a sudden:D

I can vouch for that Tony, I only just got to watch the game, and "Freddie the kid" has so much potential, he was a bit overcome with emotion at the final whistle, but that's only natural, also good to see Hurst, Brooking & Bonzo there to witness his magical day!

    IRONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just watched the highlights. This kid has speed and control plus a little humility. Not afraid to do his stuff in the areas that hurt.

Did anyone notice just how nuch better Ashton was now that Cole is out of his way. He looked hungry again.

I was thinking the same thing, it's surprising how many promising players have their career ruined by going to spurms. Michael Carrick did OK I suppose, but he had to go to ManUre to do it. Defoe is banging in goals now that he has left WHL and Kanoute resurrected a failing career by leaving Tottenham.

it would've a been a much better wind-up if the above wasn't true combined with the 7 point lead we currently have on that sad club.

It works the other way too. Players like Zamora and Etherington both did nothing at Spurms but have had flourishing careers at West Ham.

The Academy of Football Vs the Slaughter House of Football!!

Ahh well, at least we are realistic about how big a club we are!! ;)

Well in all fairness Defoe never really got his chance cause when you have class up front such as Berbatov and Keane a lot of people won't thrive. Sears looks like he could turn out pretty good for you guys.

If you want to list players Spuds have ruined it would take more space than this page allows.
I'm trying to think of players who have improved after transferring to WHL. I think they buy so many that its hard to pick any. Robbie Keane maybe. Berbatov doesn't look the player he was last year. Lennon and Robinson have definately gone backwards.

As for Sears this is the crunch time he has to complete the big step up to consistant prem class. Looks to have heaps of potential, another TC hopefully.

Calm down, the kid's 18. If Noble and Ferdinand are examples to be followed, he needs a good couple of years to make the grade.

Yes, Sears is still young and has alot of work to do over the next few years before he is regarded as a consistent PL class player.

I do think that his main talent lies with goalscoring though. Some strikers are strong or good in the air or tough and stocky like Tevez. Sears just knows where the goal is and knows how to score from just about anywhere in the box. We really lack this ability and haven't really produced it from our Academy since TC.

Agree with that. He has that natural 'goal-poacher' instinct, and though I will not compare the two yet, Jimmy Greaves had the same thing. They seem to be able to know where the ball will end up and always know where the goal is.

Greavsie was never a brilliant footballer, a la Pele, but had that uncanny abillity to score goals. He never had to look up to see where the goal was, or where the keeper was; he just knew. Let's hope that Freddie the kid can develope into that sort of player.

I didn't see the game but from all reports Sears put in another very encouraging performance. He's got more than just pace about him and as many have already said he's got an eye for goal and gets himself in good positions on the pitch. He's really changed the outlook for the fans this season. One minute we are boring midtable and the next we can look forward to seeing a few kids being given extended playing time.:)

This Kid Sears is EXCITING prospect.

Having seen him come on versus Everton, I became an INSTANT fan.
The guy was buzzing, making things happen and you could see this goal appetite in him that the most prolific have. It's very early to call him great but for now I for one have even more reason to watch West Ham United.

And if there is a player to compare him to, for me, its Alberto Paloschi.
Both guys might have nothing else in common but that they seem to have this insatiable appetite for goals and scored within minutes of their respective league debuts (Paloschi took all of 15 seconds)

Sears and Ashton also looked menacing. Why spend on the likes of Camara, Bellamy, etc when we might just be better letting the likes of Sears develop!
