Here is the thread from the suspension: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=335205&highlight=suspends+Saprissa+Stadium
Good job Saprissa! They did what they had to do...i really expected them to play better and maybe score more goals (not own goals ) but its all good. I know Atlante is no where near the same team that won the Mexican title last season...but its still a good result against a club thats in the most competitive league in all of Latin America (alongside Argentina and Brazil). Too bad their coach blamed the field and fans for the loss because Saprissa was obviously the better team (when they actually wanted to go foward). Next is Houston Dynamo and i dont expect Saprissa Stadium to be penalized (even though its funny how a lot of Dynamo fans in their forum are hoping it will be). Saprissa should win the series at home and get revenge for Puntarenas who were eliminated last year by the Dynamo
The fans throwing beer at the players reminded me of US/Mex games I have been to, totally classless, but this was worse, it was coins and other small heavy items. I ended up rooting for Atlante it made me so mad.
well, I wanted a 5-0 victory, but I am cool with the 3-0... I cant believe Alpizar didnt score the 4th goal... he never misses those kind of scoring plays, anyways we won and it feels so good... I would like to watch the game on TV, are they showing it again on Fox sports today? I went to the stadium and watched the highlights last night, it was funny and at the same time pathethic when the mexican comentors used the word "desgraciadamente" about the Atlantes elimination... they should try to be a little bit objective... they should be professionals... Atlantes coach crying that the ball goes very fast in our stadium... lol... one of the worst excuses I`ve heard Atlante got scared lastnight and Dynamo is already scared... funny, gringo teams WILL NEVER win at saprissas... and they now it Who plays the returning leg at home? Saprissa? if so, we are already on the final
Morado...Time to wake up. You just lost your home field advantage. You'll lose the first game (away) against the Dynamo and then you'll be playing your "home" game in an empty stadium or not even in the country. Your "12th man" advantage was just blown.
There has been no indication that the stadium will be banned. I'm not sure it will, since the main reason it was banned last time was due to a small crowd of fans invading the field. Maybe the whole incident with the stadium employees refusing to give the ball is the incident that will trigger the ban, but as of now, there is no ban.
Graduation's on the win, although I root for the Mexican teams in international competition I was ok with you guys winning. For some reason I have a soft spot for Saprissa. Good Luck.
Saprissa supporters are DAUNTING to away players AND refs. If you reffed at saprissa, would you want to be ********ing murdered for being the reason they lost? Either way, I'm very happy Saprissa won.
Are you implying that the ref called the game to Saprissa's advantage? Because what I saw was a pretty mediocre ref, equally sucky for both sides. Actually, he was a bit too lenient on Atlante's players a couple of times, with rough tackles that probably should've been cards. But yeah, I agree, Saprissa's stadium can be pretty hostile to the other team. Nothing to be proud of, really.
If the stadium gets banned, it will because of when the fans threw that coin/rock that hit the Atlante player in the head and cut him up.
That's how it should be. However, given that this is CONCACAF, who knows what they'll do, and for what reasons they're doing it.
For me it was a win/win situation. If Atlante wins we get to play the reigning MFL champ with a fun away trip to Cancun for the Dynamo fans. If Saprissa wins we get to play one of the strongest teams from Central America. And my Tico buddy gets to come watch his hometown team with us in Houston. Unfortunately the morons' actions at Saprissa's stadium make the their fans look like idiots. Since this isn't an isolated incident and has some historical background it is also an indictment on Saprissa's team/stadium management. I wonder if Saprissa's petty actions will hurt or help them? Are they not capable of winning games on the field and they feel like they need to use these childish antics to gain advantage. Yes, they gained an advantage in the Atlante match, but it makes them look like fools to other football fans and respect is lost for Saprissa.
LOL come on now....the whole coin/rock incident occured when Saprissa was already up 3-0 and owning Atlante. Dont be like Atlante's coach blaming the loss on the field and the atmosphere. I do agree that the coin/rock incident should NEVER happen in any game, but blaming that incident on the loss when the score was already 3-0 doesn't make sense. Atlante was juss outplayed last night and was very lucky to only lose by 3 goals. Next is Houston Dynamo and i think Saprissa shouldn't have any problem with them especially if they get a good away result, but Wizards and Galaxy gave us a hard time the last 2 times we faced them so we'll have to wait and see
lol, well, I hope we get your respect one day the more you people talk about Saprissas stadium, the more you are gonna suffer when you come here
Anyone who saw the match would know that the stuff the fans were throwing hurt both teams, since they were so crazy it seemed they no longer cared who they threw it against. And crowd or no crowd, Saprissa was clearly the superior team. Any advantage gained by Saprissa playing in their own stadium was due more to the artificial field than the crowd.
Atlante got played off the field, plain and simple. They can look for excuses in the atmosphere, the pitch, the wind, the time of day, whatever. There was clearly a superior team out there, and it was Saprissa.
jaaaa hey any of you guys comin to houston for the game? i will be here and i grew up on saprissa but have a close bond w/ dynamo....Que Dios me ayuda! lol but i will be sitting w/ my costa rican family for the game
You do realize that throwing a challenge in Americans' faces is one of the classic blunders? Seriously though, I'm happy you beat the MFL team, just...chill a bit on the Millwall syndrome, please?
