Heard that from another Leeds site, and it appears that the smart money is that he'll win his 100th cap against USA at Wembley. It would be a huge money spinner for the FA. I'd put money on him being cut from the squad or not playing. Capello might get instructed from on high on this one.
Which might be kind of cool because if Donovan is called up for the USA-Poland game, then he too will be playing for his 100th cap in the USA-England game. That would be cool for MLS - 2 Galaxy teammates getting their 100th caps playing against each other.
Becks gets the call-up, gets a haircut, and gets to meet Pele in NY. (Pictures too). http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/li...ews.html?in_article_id=540411&in_page_id=1773
he had zero days rest when we played chivas, and while he looked terrible for the last 20-30 minutes. he looked great for the first 30-45. dude flies so much i don't think it affects him the way it does us commoners.
he's done worse. I remember seeing him go an insane 90 minutes in a 3-0 loss to Chivass after playing in england the day before and flying back that morning- or whatever it was.
I realize he has done worse, and I am very happy for him. However, I was hoping to see him in optimal form for the LAG, but lets hope he can get through that game and get on with MLS
Jetlag isnt the issue, he flys in first class, drops a sleeping tablet, injury is the only worry, i'am english and i only want him to concentrate on the Galaxy, seems silly to me having him play for England we need the younger ones to come through for the next world cup.
He's no where enar good enough to paly for England, David Bentley should be played instaed of him, I fancy him to play the last 30 mins or so and then never play for us again, he's done a good job for us, but he can stay in America.
Goalkeepers: David James (Portsmouth), Scott Carson (Liverpool, on loan at Aston Villa), Chris Kirkland (Wigan Athletic) Defenders: Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Joleon Lescott (Everton), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham United), David Wheater (Middlesbrough), Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham Hotspur) Midfielders: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham Hotspur), Owen Hargreaves (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), David Bentley (Blackburn Rovers), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), David Beckham (LA Galaxy), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough) Forwards: Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Michael Owen (Newcastle United), Wayne Rooney, (Manchester United), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Portsmouth), Theo Walcott (Arsenal) (Reporting by John Mehaffey; Editing by Justin Palmer) It's very cool to see the name LA Galaxy amongest all those EPL teams.
Happy for Becks. I've said elsewhere that I'm the type of person who generally would look for reasons to not like Beckham, or criticize the way he approaches MLS but since the dude has come here he has been our most intense, most professional and (obviously) our best player. His charitable actions have been noticed too. I have nothing but respect for the man.
i think his time is done, though there isn't a single england player that has the passion and commitment becks does to his national team, it's embarrassing that a 32 year old comes off the bench and puts in more effort and skill than the younger players around him who are supposedly more skilled than he is, reminds me of the galaxy and cobi jones, but i digress. becks deserves his hundredth cap. i'd rather him get it for an early friendly and be done with it.
The idea that the younger players coming through have more ability than Becks is laughable for me. I watched Lennon every week while he was at Leeds and without the pace he'd be a lower league player. His touch and crossing is very poor. Bentley doesn't have Beckhams attitude, and isn't as good as Beckham was, and Agbonlahor isn't a right winger. We still have a place for Beckham, and I still want him playing for us. He adds passion, leadership and set-piece ability. People need to realise that not one of the players who McLaren or Capello has brought in has looked like being a much better option. Even Wright-Phillips isn't wonderful. I still think he deserves to be in the squad. But I do get torn between his duty to LA and his national team commitments. Another way of looking at it is to think that he is going to be far happier in LA, if he is able to play for England. It will give him the reassurance that he has done the right thing. PS I agree with Beakmon, is what all the above is saying.
This coming from someone that can't seem to spell half the words in their post. No where near good enough? You don't get to 100 caps just by chance, silly bollocks. Capello isn't going for sentiment here, he's going for class and Becks has it through and through. While I agree that David Bentley is a great talent, he hasn't accomplished anywhere NEAR the honors and footballing kudos that Becks has, so until he does I'm sick and tired of all this "Next David Beckham" shite I keep hearing from the U.K. media.
Don't rise, there's no use arguing with an illiterate, they'll just keep rolling out more shite. Just leave him.
If you get the reference, thank you . I have to say, just look at that last game against Croatia to prove Beckham's worth to the team. That volley to Crouch? Absolutely flawless.
