Re: Who is this Holden kid? Wade has played 1699 minutes this season if I read the stat correctly last night on the ESPN ticker during halftime. That's more than any other player in MLS. In addition, he's our captain. Long story short, Wade's our left back for the forseeable future. It's gonna be a rotation between Davis, Holden, & Mullan for those two wing positions.
Re: Who is this Holden kid? I would listen to and follow our platoon Sgt. Craig than our minute king officer Cpt. Wade. Puttin positions aside, I just don't see Wade gettin' into people's faces like Craig or Mully does. I mean Eddie does but he's off his rocker once the ball's kicked. My captain was my center back most of the time. So that might be why Wade is gonna be a tough sell for me. Expansion Draft decides his fate IMHO.
Re: Who is this Holden kid? I was speaking with God the other day and He said that He wants Stuie to play for the USMNT.
Re: Who is this Holden kid? Great article on Stewie in the dailyrecord http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/...objectid=19528650&siteid=66633-name_page.html I really like the fact that Holden can play across the mid and in a pinch up top as well. Great lad from the little I have talked with him!
Re: Who is this Holden kid? Oops, wrong thread, sorry! I thought I would drop a name or two....seems to be popular for some (or one) on these boards.

Re: Stuart Holden on Channel 2, 6:50 11/20 But, it's right before the Today Show starts, so there should be a good viewing audience.

Our sponsor KHOU will talk about the Dynamo after the break !!!
Re: Stuart Holden on Channel 2, 6:50 11/20 this seems to be the last stuart holden thread so here goes.... today on goff's soccer blog he has the list for the U-23 call ups and our boy stuey is on the list. http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/
So if things don't work out for Holden and he doesn't get capped, think he might decide to go the Scottish route instead? Sign for Celtic or Rangers? Just a thought...
na he will stay here for a little bit and get a starting position....its the smartest move at his age. He goes to a Scottish club like Rangers, Celtic or any first division team he wouldnt start and may not even hit reserves....a lot of good players in the Scottish league. who knows though.....I really hate talking about the leaving of our players. Rico,D-ro,Stu,Joe.....just something I dont need during the off season.
Here's one for you then....... I agree that another season with our Champion Dynamo would most likely benefit him, what happens if everyone is fit, Dom loves Mullan and Davis out wide, DeRo in the middle and Rico at demid? Stuie on the bench again picking up odd minutes and games in Cup Competitions? That's not the opportunity he needs. Maybe we could get a good trade for Davis?
Wait, so if Holden doesn't get capped by the US, he'd move to Scotland for his club ball? Why exactly? I don't see the logic in that. It's not like you have to play your club ball in the country you want to represent nationally...moving to a Scottish team wouldn't increase his chances of being picked by Scotland just like moving overseas wouldn't decrease his chances of being picked by the US (unless he moves and then never plays). If he moves from Houston, it won't have anything to do with whether or not he gets capped by the US. It's pretty clear he wants to play for the US and it's also pretty clear that the US is interested in him. I don't know if he'll be picked for the OQ in March buy can anyone name me 2 right mids that are better options than Stewie for the US U-23s? Oh, and the Dynamo will have insane number of games next year...even more than the 42 or 43 they had this year when they made runs in the SL and CCC but didn't even get past one game of the USOC. If all the tourneys pan out as they should and actually happen, (CCC, Pan Pacific, CONCACAF CL, etc) the Dynamo could play 50 games without breaking a sweat next season. There will be plenty of opportunities for players like Stewie to get significant playing time.
Holden's break-out year? I became really impressed with Holden last year. The more I watch of him in U-23s I just get even more impressed with him. I fully believe that this may be a break-out year for him. Am i the only one or does anyone else maybe share my sentiments?
Re: Holden's break-out year? Depends on how much he gets to play. Davis and Mullan are ahead of him and barring injuries, those two will start. He had a good year last year but he still has some growing to do and he should have a good career down the road.
Re: Holden's break-out year? He's looking goo wiht the U-23 team, but yeah per OP he may not allways start
Re: Holden's break-out year? Yeah...his playing time may be limited but Mullan is so streaky, I'm thinking Holden will get more of a look this year. But I could be just fooling myself. Either way, I think he is poised for great things down the line.
Re: Holden's break-out year? I hope so, but I think it's about 50/50 that he'll really break out this year. I think he will do very well, but Davis and Mullan will get the majority of playing time, so Stuart will still be a spot starter. If Davis or Mullan get a major injury and miss significant time, then Stuart could break out. I would predict next year as his real breakout year - he'll play well enough this year to prove that he needs to start regularly, and he'll continue to develop and then will be ready next year (when he'll still only be 24 years old) when he starts regularly. Either Mullan or Davis will be on the bench behind him, or one of them may be gone when Holden proves he is really ready. He played well today, one of the few guys on the team that looked good. And he really looked good against Panama. The one thing that bothered me was why his free kicks/corner kicks were so poor. In Houston when he took the kicks last year, he seemed very good at it. But today he looked pretty bad.
Re: Holden's break-out year? Well one of his corner kicks was good, Gaven just got hauled down by the defender...but that one was spot on imo. however, the rest weren't that great tho like you said.
Re: Holden's break-out year? In my opinion, this will be Stu's last year in the MLS. I'm sure Europe will be calling after a good year in the U-23 and MLS. As it stands now, Davis isn't match fit and Mullan is just coming back online. I am a huge fan of Mullan and I think he should always be on our right line. Davis is another story...
