That would make for 3 Liverpool games in two weeks.

Last time we faced Liverpool frequently over a short period of time, I think we did OK.

I'm happy to play anyone buy MU. But even with Man U., Fergie gets conservative in the CL in comparison to the League. I know we can take any of the remaining teams over two legs.

I hope we draw Roma, as well.

Really? How so? The italians didn't want the visits of fans of two different English team to overlap?

That's a dangerous draw though... It seems like one we could win and advance to the semis, but I think Roma would be a very tricky matchup and one that could easily catch us off guard.

My hope is that the English teams are drawn apart.

As for us, I would like to see Porto (or Schalke) or Barca. No English, no Fener, no Roma.

BBC txt today said this: It's because the Italian police didn't fancy two big games at the San Siro on successive nights.

Another site said this: Today, Liverpool will take day off from UEFA Champions League because of their rules, that don't allow Inter to play on the same field as AC Milan so soon after previous match.

looks like schalke has won on PK's.

it's looking like 4 out of the 8 spots are going to being an english club. that's pretty remarkable.

hoping arsenal draw one of the big clubs like barca or roma. arsenal seem to step up for big games (juve, real, now milan) but falter against teams they are favored (psv).

I'd be happy with either Roma, Schalke, or Fenerbahce. I'd rather not face Barca or another English team.

With Milan, Real, etc. crashing out, it's looking pretty good for an English team to win the CL this season. The only non-English teams I see as major threats to win it are Barca and Inter (if they get past Liverpool). But, I'd rather face English teams later than sooner. A Barca rematch in the finals would be a great chance for redemption!

They are a good team... and who wants that away match - especially now that they've shown they can play a good road game too?

At least with Barca, you know what you're going to get... The kids will get up for it, Cesc will look to impress, Henry the same.

Doesn't really matter who we draw in the next round, at the very worst it will be a toss up. IF I had a choice it would be Schalke.

umm name two players from Fenerbache off the top of your head.

    Now try that with Barca.

Knowing that any ONE of: Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Messi, Bojan, Henry, Iniesta, or Xavi could have a moment of brilliance (since htey are all more than capable of it) is not confidence-building. We crushed Sevilla (when ti coutned) and Fener took them to penalties over two legs....anyone who says they'd prefer Barca over the Turks is not being realistic.

edit: and for some reason, the CL often does come down to sheer brilliance-- after all, that's how we won just yesterday!

I understand that Barca is a better team, but I trust this team better playing against Barca than I do against Fenerbahce.

I've seen Barca plenty this year and if you really think that list of stars is indicative of their quality of play, you are mistaken. Our players would rise up to play Barca... I think they would play down to Fener, which is dangerous.

I agree with you...sort of. On the one hand, we tend to raise our game against better competition. On the other hand, the margin for error is much smaller. I's still prefer to take the easy path (Schalke would be my first choice) if at all possible.

Of course, Arsenal seems to almost always get tough draws so I expect Barca or Chelsea/Man U.

Schalke is the obvious choice now that their game is settled. While that same potential to "play down" exists, I don't think Schalke has the same upset potential that Fenerbache had. I have watched them several times this year - including last week - and they really weren't very scary.

Preference for the next round - best to worst draw:

Schalke - Currently 6th in Germany and very disappointing outside of the CL. Haven't been impressive inside the CL. Scored exactly one goal in a total of six matches with Chelsea, Valencia, and Porto.

Fenerbache - Currently 3rd in Turkey but still very much in contention. Have scored 13 goals in their eight CL matches but have conceded almost as many.

Roma - Currently 2nd in Serie A, 6 points back. Knocked off Real today but lost 0-3 to 14th place Siena last month.

Barca - Currently 2nd in La Liga, but Messi may be done for the year. Arsenal would be extremely motivated against this club given 2006.

Liverpool - May be rubbish in the PL where they'd be level with Spurs were they without Torres, but this is not a team you want to play given their history in this competition.

Chelsea - Don't want to play them before the final, given potential psychological effect on the league race.

ManU - Don't want to play them at all after what happened in the FA cup. Will be difficult enough to draw the league match at OT and we may need to win it. The last thing we need is to play them three times.

    Best outcome from Arsenal's perspective:

    Arsenal - Schalke
    Barca - Liverpool
    Fenerbache - Roma
    Chelsea - ManU

I'd rather draw Barca than Schalke to be honest.

We were made to look like fools against Villa at home, and 3 days later put in an epic performance to beat Milan at the San Siro.

How good the other team's players are is not really going to determine our future. We are the sort of team that is equally likely to lose to Schalke/Fenerbache as we are Barca.

With that out of the way, I want Barca. We actually seem to wake up for the big games.

When's the last time we got drawn with a Bundesliga team in anything? It seems to be a rare occurence for us.

I seem to remember an outing against Bayern, think it was 0-0 and then we lost 2-0 away.

Toure mistimed a header and put through pizzaro for a goal.

Do you guys ever wonder how "true" the draw is , so to speak?

Surely you know that UEFA do not want to pair up ManU-Roma(after all the trouble last year), Chelksi-'Pool(set football back years everytime they play)

They would LOVE Arsenal-Barca (obvious), or ManU-'Pool (as a neutral, i would love that, LOOOOOOOVE it but crowd problems could be an issue?)

And the first ball out of the draw is the home side in the first leg as well, no seeding here ?

Roma scare me. I think they are very dangerous, and have some gusto as well as guts in the midfield.

in 2004/5 Arsenal lost the away leg 3-1 in Munich and then won 1-0 at home, which wasn't enough to go through
