Not really... the last weekend in September seems like an eternity in the past. At least that's a view of someone who's looking forward to seeing Geelong make a run towards repeating as AFL premiers again. As for the preseason opener... 1-0. [result]Geelong 2.22.10 (160) Melbourne 2.11.5 (89)[/result] Steve Johnson picked up where he left off in his Norm Smith Medal-winning performance in the Grand Final against Port Adelaide, kicking six goals to lead the Cats' drubbing of the Demons. Next up for Geelong: Round 2 of the NAB Cup knockout competition, of which they're now favorites, against St. Kilda in Canberra next Saturday.
Oops... I'd forgotten that the last game was last September. Nonetheless, it seemed like a good preseason opener. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G

Pat and Wade at GB in San Jose Last Friday, in between the two preseason Earthquakes v Dynamo friendlies on Wednesday and Saturday, my family were enjoying dinner at Gordon Biersch in downtown San Jose. My wife spotted Pat Onstadt, and after instructing our 9-yr old in courteous behavior, permitted him to interrupt Pat's dinner in pursuit of an autograph. Pat graciously accepted Griffin's praises and recommended he also take Wade Barrett's signature, who was sitting with his back to us, previously unrecognized. Two pros dining out in one of the old local hangs while passing through town for a few days, otherwise unremarked- but knowing their old fans still respect and appreciate them for past services. The following is a test of the emergency video system. The preceding was only a test. In the event of a real emergency please go to a trusted bar or pub.
So... if we bleed blue like Joe Cannon.... does that really make us all blue-bloods? We sure don't seem to act like blue-bloods - at least, based on all our posts!
A-ha! That explains all our faults! Crap. Shoot me now. I can't stop it... honest... Can I blame the margaritas?

Does anyone know how long it was between the time that AEG took over the team and when they began discussing selling the Quakes to Club America or sending it to Houston? Goodsport, this is the kind of stuff you know. Anybody for that matter.
AEG took sole possession of the Quakes in December 2002, after SJEEE (who bought the Sharks from the Gund brothers in March/April 2002, which is the reason why SVS&E couldn't solely run the Quakes in 2002 like it did in 2001) cut ties with our team and the league to right the floundering (at the time) Sharks.* AEG's intention to sell the team to Club America was made public in Dylan Hernandez's Merc article in January 2004, less than two months after the Quakes won MLS Cup 2003, though that likely means that the talks with Club America started sometime before that. The Wee Man may be able to shed more light on that, but the timeframe must've been a year at the most. Speaking of which, QuakeMagic.com had an exclusive interview with Johnny in which it was revealed that sometime during the 2003 MLS season, he was in SSS negotiations with Mission College that seemed to be pretty advanced until AEG put a kibosh on those talks while it briefly offered a half-assed proposal to Spartan Shops for a slight renovation of Spartan Stadium which didn't pan out. AEG's plans to sell and/or move the team must've started shortly after that. I hope that helped. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G * The Sharks had massive problems during the 2002-03 NHL season, including missing the NHL playoffs for the only time to date since the 1996-97 NHL season (and the first time in head coach Darryl Sutter's professional career to that point), the firing of Sutter in mid-season and GM Dean Lombardi after the season concluded, etc.
