Serioux is battling for a starting spot at both D-mid and Defender. There is a enough competition that he could end up not starting in either spot. IMO IF he does not clearly win a starting spot then he should be traded, due his cap number and international status. Serioux does bring the plus of being able to cover two positions, which brings me to what I think could be a perfect trade.

Serioux to TFC for Pat Phelan straight up.

Why FCD should do the trade: Free up cap space, free up an international slot, add very good young prospect who provides cover in both defense and d-mid.

Why TFC should do the trade: Add a Canadian National Team player, free up an international slot or quasi US/International slot, add a proven player that can help the team now.

Fully agree, but Toronto knows our predicament. Do you think they will give us much for him?

Pat Phelan is a good prospect, but certainly not an exorbitant cost for a Canadian National Team player. Plus, TFC is always in a predicament of needing the best Canadian players due to their roster restrictions

What's "our predicament", exactly? How is it any worse than TFC's situation?

I'd swap him for Wynne or Edu and that's it.

If you were a TFC fan would you think that would be a good deal... doubtful.

Serioux looked pretty good in D-Mid last year so I don't really see how he won't be the favorite for that position especially since Morrow has given reason to believe he and Richetti will play together in the mid. So who's he competing with?

Toja, Saragosa, McCarty, Rocha, Wallace, are all potential competitiors. I know Toja and McCarty could also play a-mid, Rocha could also play on the right, but there will still be plenty of competition.

Thats a good point tex. thanks for reminding me! I guess it may be a good idea to trade him for someone that can add depth and wont be taken away!

Serioux is a clear cut starter at d-mid. So, we would have to expect a clear-cut starter back.

Problem is that Toronto probably won't trade Edu for Serioux, and that is the spot Serioux would play at, so they won't give enough value to have a good player sit. However, if Edu goes Europe, that would open up more of a trade possiblity.

We don't play with a right back, so Wynne probably doesn't work. He isn't refined enough offensively to be a right mid, but it is something to contemplate.

Another option would be to go a little cheap with our Ruiz replacement - Serioux for Cunningham?

Mo doesn't want Serioux. This is not even worth discussing.

So you have spoken to Mo to know this? If your reasoning is that he traded Serioux to us after he selected him in the expansion draft, I think you should consider that he wanted Ronnie O'Brien more and maybe that is why he made the trade.

They could always trade him to the Gals for a draft pick and a three dollar allocation. Personally, I hope he stays. I think FCD needs his bite against the more physical teams like Houston.

    Agreed.

Serioux is a stud. No way do we move him to another team.

Mo doesn't want Serioux as someone said and it will not happen. Mo had him in NY and sent him to Houston and then took him in the expansion draft just to get ROB and screw Houston & AS in the process. BTW, FCD doesn't need cover in MF and certainly not by a rookie.

w/ FCD not having a clear-cut LCB and an abundance of CDM, it won't surprise me if adrian is called on to play the LCB position. since he's played the backline before as a CB, this would give morrow that option and put the best XI out there. that way, you could still keep pablo and rocha as your holding MFs. since many of us still like adrian and pablo, this would allow both of them to still play despite our new additions and log-jam in the MF.

this was brought up by someone else on a different thread or a different blog (maybe 3rd degree), i just don't remember.

I think no one has brought up Serioux at LCM because he wasn't that great at CD last year. Maybe he wasn't fully healthy but I thought he didn't have the instincts there. He was prone to biting on moves like someone who knows they have help behind them. Another thing to think about is Davino (supposedly) and Moor aren't great in the air and Serioux isn't a force there either. That is where Yi or perhaps a new aquisition would add something. What about Wallace or Shea, too young?

I would love to see Wally given a chance to win minutes at LCB. He has the range and athleticism to cover a lot of ground and he would have less to think about playing in a 3-man backline... just listen to where Davino and GK tell you to go and mark your man.
