"Recently acquired Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz will miss Guatemala’s exhibition match next week against Argentina at the Coliseum due to the lingering effects of off-season knee surgery.
Ruiz underwent arthroscopic surgery in November to remove torn cartilage, and Galaxy team doctor, Dr. Bert Mandelbaum, determined after examining Ruiz on Friday that he was not ready to play. The Galaxy did not release Ruiz for Guatemala’s training camp, which began Monday.
No word on what the specific issue is, but he is expected to play in the Pan-Pacific tournament and the Asia friendlies.
Just like last year Beckham was going to play the entire month of August.
Wait. I didn’t just say that."

wow. just wow. if he doesnt play the panpacific tourney im gonna be pissed. ALEXIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!

    Why?

Let's be honest here, the PPC means nothing. It is a preseason tournament at best.

yeah its a preseason tourney "at best", but thats where it all begins sometimes; maybe im just being paranoid after the beckham debacle, but what honestly scared me the most is that he's said to have a "lingering" problem. i really hope im looking into the article too much, because i want him to start meshing with the rest of the team pronto.

The knee problem doesn't worry me. His head problem, however, does.

Zing! Personally, I wouldn't worry about the PPC too much - if he plays, he plays, if he doesn't, he doesn't. Its a bunch of PR friendlies, and of course I would hate for the Galaxy to lose, but then again, with all the player changes, there will be a growing period (hopefully everything and everyone gets adjusted before the start of the season).

I just pray to God that the Galaxy and the overlords that control them learned their lesson during Beckhamania last year - don't field a player if he's not 100% ready. Fortunately though, Fish doesn't have to worry about the intense burning of the spotlight as much as Becks did, and I think that will definitely help him ease the pressure off him both mentally and professionally, which should help him heal faster.

Ruiz doesn't need knees, he spends all his time on the ground anyway.

I hope they take their time with him. There is plenty of time this offseason to make sure everyone is 100% fit come March 29.

What is important is that he's match fit for the first day of the season. If he's healthy, he should fill some of our needs quite nicely. The more I think about it, the more I'm getting excited about this team for next season + a trademark bicycle kick kick in the home opener against San Jose is a must
