Interesting move for us. Sounds like we're getting the Chilean version of Carlos Ruiz, hope he can put the ball in the back of the ol onion bag.

"Reports out of Dallas and Argentina are stating that FC Dallas is currently in talks with 29 year old Chilean forward Reinaldo Navia currently with Argentina's Racing Club. He is currently a key player for the Chilean national team and has 40 caps. He is a skilled striker who should probably make Dallas supporters forget about Carlos Ruiz if the deal is done. He is not without controversy, however. Chilean club, Colo Colo refused to sign him after his bad behavior in the 2007 Copa America. He is precisely the kind of "tasty character" that home fans love and opposing fans love to hate."

I wonder if he can create his own shot.

Oh hell, I just noticed the supporting link is mlsrumors.

He looks like he's built more like Raging Bob.

    Bah.

MLSRumors are also reporting that Harry Kewell "is possibly" MLS-bound. Nevermind they do not mention that A-League has a "marquee player" provision that should be much more attractive, I would think.

I love it. The video posted shows an obvious theatrical dive in an international match against Brazil.

    Carlos v2.0, here we come.

To be fair, #4 took the dive in that video not Navia (#9)... but Navia did bury the PK in the upper 90.

What's hilarious is that Jade at MLSRumors just takes his Wikipedia page and moves some words around and makes it sound like she knows something about Navia.

Wow.....interesting prospect. Would shut people up about not trying to replace Ruiz. 29 is still in the "wheelhouse" for creative strikers. I need to see more video of this guy before getting excited.

What's hilarious is that Carlos Ruiz is 28 and people have said that he's over the hill.

Who has said that? I know what I've said is that when people complained about what we got from LA for him it was less than we gave up to get him, and my point was that with age a players' value goes down. He's not over the hill, that's ludicrious. I think many of the league's defenders have him figured out. I think the refs are tired of his crap and refuse to give him calls...even legitimate ones. But he can still put the ball away when given the chance.

I could not agree more. There were several instances, especially in the playoffs when he was legitimately taken down, but the refs did not give him a call because of his reputation.

I watched him during his Club America years and he is exciting. Gets heated, but has passion to win. It is risky(he might do something stupid), but I like it.

Looks like he played for about half the teams in mexico, and i don't remember anything too impressive last semester with ra-shing in argentina. Plus he got in trouble in the copa america for partying and destroying a hotel room and was suspended for 20 games from the national team. I think he was linked with FCD before last season as well.

I think with the amount of money MLS teams have to spend, if you want an "experienced" player you have to take a guy who has some other risk factors. Otherwise you end up with unknown prospects. Either way you are taking a chance. I'm okay with rolling the dice on some of these guys. We have other options at forward if he flakes out.

I watched Reinaldo play at America for 2 years. He's very good and fast. He makes a lot of goals. He's a very exciting player. I don't think he creates his own goals though. I don't understand why you guys want the strikers to create their own goals. That's why they're are playmakers. They're the ones that are supposed to create everything.

I hope Dallas does get him.

People are saying that to point out the fact that we don't have any playmakers. It's kind of a backhanded swipe at our midfield. Personally, I think the whole "we need a #10" deal is going a bit overboard.

As I did with Manoucheri, I will try to share some info about Navia.
Currently, he is with Racing Club in Argentina. He has been there since the beginning of the Closing Championship (last summer).

At one point, he was easily considered the best foreign forward in the Mexican league (I will say 'till about '03). He banged in goals for UAG Tecos, Morelia and America. In fact, I remember a "superclasico" vs Chivas where he scored a game-winning bycicle kick goal.

There were many rumours linking him with a move to Europe at that point--Sevilla of Spain seemed a very likely destination. Then, it all fell apart as he ********ed up his knee while playing for America (it didn't help that America followed the Mexican tradition of raising a player's price to incredible levels in order to scare off offers).

He was not playing for about 6 months or so. Then, he was fit (at least to play) he was loaned to San Luis and Mty. Neither move really worked out. Ever since his injury, Navia has developed a bad habit of partying too much (I guess the injury gave him a lot of free time ). And last year, he got tired of playing in Mexico and joined Racing.

I don't think he has scored, but then again in the "Apertura", he barely played. The team was waiting for him to be fully fit (notice the difference between being "fully fit" physically and actually being "on form :)).

As for our NT...he was part of the team that won a medal in Sidney Olympics (beat the US for it). And alongside Zamorano, he probably formed the most lethal striker partnership at the competition. He has also repped us at full NT level, though, nothing to write home about.

He has already had two "instances" of indiscipline. One while we played in Ireland in Dublin 2 yrs. ago (1-0 win for us) and one last year in the Copa America in Vza. (where he, alongside other 4 players, were suspended from the NT for 20 games).

    Hope this helps! :)

That is inaccurate: all press info. actually made Valdivia the main culprit (apparently he got drunk at the hotel bar or something and threw stuff--allegedly ham:confused:--at hotel workers). All the other 4 players were just thrown in the bag. ;)

Sooo... had a knee injury, stopped scoring goals, and became a lockerroom problem.

If we are going to get an expensive guy, at least get someone on good form. Otherwise, get a young forward.

    Next.

You haven't said that Adam, but I can remember plenty of people saying that he's getting old and his best days are behind him at 28 years old.
