Perhaps Fred has set a precedent of A-League's best players moving (on up? :D) to MLS

[conspiracy theory]Being that this is MLS, the may let Houston keep those rights and pawn them off to SJ for a bunch of $$ + back up player so that Houston can get a DP ST (Bofo, anyone?) which would be excellent not only for Houston but for the league in that they would have another DP (maybe a very popular one, too) in a very important market, not to mention team, so as to generate more money for the league and everyone else be damned[/conspiracy theory]

    :p

It's been reported that we still have his rights but heck if anyone knows what we'll do with them. Dom really likes the guy, so we may keep him (for some reason...). But I wouldn't let precedent be the defining factor for MLS. Just cause they did something once doesn't mean they have to honor it again.

Don't we (Houston) already have enough cap room?

With the departure of Ngwenya, Jaqua, and Dalglish we have $260k freed up. Add that to however much free space we had before and we probably don't need any allocation money.

If anything shouldn't San Jose have his rights anyway? After all, he never played in Houston did he? ;)

If true, looks pretty good. Young striker and 7 goals in 19 app in Ligue 1 is pretty good.

Whoooooa!! This would be the biggest signing of the offseason IMO. I mean this guy is practically going to be a starter for Colombia NT for the next few years ... Hard to see how they can pull it off though.

Does anyone know his contract situation? I would imagine that if he was available on a free transfer there would be several European clubs lining up for his services ... Maybe Renteria could be intrigued by the idea of playing alongside Angel, with a Colombian manager in a city with a big Colombian population.

I would assume JCO and Angel would be a huge influence in his decision to come to New York (if he does).

    More nonsense from MLSRumours

Its a decent site, but you have to realise they exaggerate every rumour to the extent that 1-day trialists are done deals...

I assume this would be more because of a departure of one of their other forwards in the summer.

I doubt he will move to MLS at this point in his career. He was in Brazil and made a name for himself then got sold to Porto for about $4 Million and signed a 4 year deal in January of 2007. He was loaned out to the French side where he has been doing well. He is an incredibly talented player and draws a lot of comparisons to Asprilla. He plays up top and has similar qualities. He is a fixture on the NT now and is an undoubted starter and would probably cost a ton of money at this point and time. I was hoping that Osorio would go to Colombia to bring some talent and flair to the midfield as that is lacking on the Red Bulls but he seems to be betting on Reyna to provide that. Maybe could get some good player cheap as he knows the Colombian league well from his days as coach of Millionarios and most players from the league would jump at the chance to live and play in the US but at this point I doubt it. They're probably handcuffed by the Reyna deal.

Are you daft? Toronto has much deeper problems than an overpriced Brit striker can fix. The FO might use it to justify another ticket price increase, though...if this rumor were in fact true, judging by the source though...

Navia's a pretty good striker... some may remember him from his days playing with Blanco at America
