    I agree. Chastain just wants to reach 200,IMO. She was pretty much done 4 years ago. I don't think Ryan had an axe to grind, but if I knew there were players running around trying to get the coach fired behind his/her back, I'd get rid of his/her ass too. First chance I get.

    Agreed that Chastain was done. However, she was not the only one trying to get the coach fired. She simply brought the request of many to Dr. Boob. Remember, the players in masse eventually asked Ape to step down.
    The whole keeping Scurry thing is odd, unless they are using her to impart wisdom to her eventual replacement, or keeping her around long enough to prove to the team's satisfaction that her eventual cut is warranted. If there's no one better than Scurry our development of keepers is sadly lacking.

    I wouldn't say never, but I think it's critical for her to be healthy enough to get into the mix of things now, rather than later. Especially with all the girls coming in that have something to prove ...

    Don't you mean ma'am? :D

    Oh, Ron, don't despair. We'll always have Charleston, RFK, downtown Boston and Fotop.

    And the sad thing is, all of us have actually mellowed in our old age. Except nsa. He's always been old.

    I is a koppee eduhtur. I no count good.

    Actually she's right about on schedule... but the tricky part is, it takes up to another year to get all the speed back after one is fit and healthy otherwise. And speed was a/the major part of her game.

    I would cut Scurry and another keeper, Markgraf, Dowling, Woznuk, Kai. Move Heath up top and Chalupny as a playmaker.

    Shannon MacMillan. Plus Tiffany Milbrett saw the writing on the wall.

    interesting list, just wondering why you would cut Kai though, from what I understand she has been playing great in camp, I believe she has scored 4 goals in practice since returning fom her illness. Markgraf, Dowling and Woznuk are all possible cuts, although I like Woznuk coming in off the bench as she did in the four nations tournament and scored a goal. With more time with this team I think Woznuk could turn into a solid player.

    I would cut whitehill before I would cut markgraf. Her speed is a libility and we are no longer a boom ball reliant defense so...

    I also do not think i would cut woznuk. The problem is we have seen so little play and have no real information about how each is doing at camp so its hard to tell. I guess in the end, its going to be what they do in the game that will really matter. So i guess in some ways its a wait and see.

    Hasnt kai's problem in the past been more related to her conditioning or lack there of then her actual play?

    The main thing that held her back during the Ryan Era was her conditioning. She's a natural athlete and she's great at the skills that you can't teach. She just has to keep building her stamina and composure, but that comes with time. If she's able to boost these attributes she'll pretty much score at will.

    I'm ignorant to what the players are doing in camp right now. I just made up my list based on my past impressions of the players I listed. I listed one forward to be cut because I wanted Heath to be given a chance to play up top. Woznuk, I wasn't impressed with her game because she seems to be forcing plays in midfield she shouldn't even be attempting. It causes a lot of defensive imbalance with her giving easy balls away. I thought with cooler headed player like Chalupny, the midfield wouldn't need rescuing by Huchles (twice in China).

    Only because Lil's not there! Great way for Kate to come back into camp. She's never been accused of not being a hard worker...

    She has been scoring during the camp scrimmages. I can't help but think she will at least go to Portugal and get a long look at from Pia. If she lays an egg in Portugal then she might be in trouble.

    Is it possible that we might see some people called up after the Algarve cup as well? Maybe some of the players that are currently playing for the U-23 or the U-20? I'm thinking we might see Sauerbrunn back again as it doesn't really sound like she was demoted, just that "she will get three excellent matches against top U-23 sides." I thought that Sauerbrunn had a solid performance in China and could be a good addition. Maybe for certain players the Algarve Cup will be sort of a "last chance," if that makes sense. If Scurry makes the roster and gets over there and lets another one through her fingers, I would hope we wouldn't see her for the Olympics. Maybe a keeper from the U-20/23's has an amazing tourney and they get a look when they get back.

    I doubt any of these players will be called up, but I do agree - I like Sauerbrunn in the back and wouldn't mind seeing more of her. I'd also like to see Val or Kelsey pulled up. I'm a big fan of Tobin, but do not like her in the back left.
    What's Yael deal? She was national player of the year... Is she not quick enough for the National Team?

    GOALKEEPERS (2): Kelsey Davis (Portland), Val Henderson (UCLA);
    DEFENDERS (6): Ameera Abdullah (Florida), Marissa Abegg (Stanford), Rachel Buehler (Stanford), Carrie Dew (Notre Dame), Nikki Krzysik (Virginia), Kasey Moore (Texas);
    MIDFIELDERS (6): Yael Averbush (North Carolina), Elizabeth Eng (Connecticut), Brittany Klein (Santa Clara), Ashley Nick (USC), Lindsey Ozimek (UNC-Charlotte), Meghan Schnur (Connecticut);
    FORWARDS (4): Kiki Bosio (Santa Clara), Kerri Hanks (Notre Dame), Ashlee Pistorius (Texas A&M), Michele Weissenhofer (Notre Dame

    I found an interview to Mitts in the Enquirer, here is the link:

    http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080210/SPT/802100353/1062

    Mitts, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in May, hoped to be ready for the Algarve Cup, but if that's too soon, she'll focus on Mexico.

    "To come into camp and do well is one thing," Mitts said, "but a highly competitive tournament might be a huge step.

    "From Day 1 (after the injury), the Olympics has been my goal. That hasn't changed."

    She might not be on the roster for the Algarve Cup... Pia might try some other defenders until she is game-ready and see what she can do in the qualifiers.

    Oh the beauty of speculation!!!! :p

    don't underestimate kacey. she is one of the best and most entertaining players i've seen, from her ability to find forwards and her final pass to her first touch (best i've ever seen) and her ability to carve defenses. she has a great strike; i've seen her hit upper 90 more than once or twice. she's quick and incredibly solid and has a great defensive intensity. what the stats on her tarheelbue profile don't include are her 13 goal, 25 assist senior season. from what i've seen in chapel hill, tobin reminds me a lot of kacey except tobin hasn't scored as often. who knows what will happen, but she's a damn good player, an even better person, and i would be surprised if she gets cut.

    mhhmmmm.... "even a better person"??? What do you mean? Are they been evaluated on personality traits and character too? Do we get a miss congeniality, better hair, trendy person or miss simpathy? :D

    Damn... if that is the case I need to scratch some people of the 20 roster for Algarve cup :p

    so?

    who cares how players are playing in camp? i want scurry cut - she's a bad goalkeeper. i want whitehill out - she's too slow. and i want white in there in midfield - she's fast and she plays in sweden.
