The box could work but there could be some possible problems depending on where they are placed. It could either give a weakness to the wings or to the middle based on their spread placement. You could have the D-mids more centered with the 2 attacking mids toward the wings... Just a thought.

The french story is from late december, Gallardo is currently out of contract and would be able to come to DC on a free, from what I've seen.

yeah, but what happened in paris to have them just waive him outright? they had to know that somebody would want him, and be willing to pay at least a small transfer fee.

True but the reason they probably let him go is their strong young reserve and substitute squads. They do harbor some excellent youth talent. (Nicholas Anelka)

"yeah, but what happened in paris to have them just waive him outright?"

Aparrently when he was with PSG he had some hard times and some fights with Le Guen for gaining playing time in the starting 11, because apparently he and Pauleta were being benched for some of the younger reserve players, to " Inject some new blood into sleepy PSG and to let the youth have some chance." Le Guen wants a long term strategy and if it means getting rid of one of their higher paid players for some more salary cap space so be it. We'll take him off their hands.

Yes but there is no indication that he will remain a starter, fit, and in form.

I could be wrong but I thought I read that Gallardo had a clause in his contract that he could invoke--which is what he did. Again, I could be wrong. But it sounds like a situation where he experienced the best of France (success, titles or many wins, lots of glory) and than PSG involved a coach he didn't see eye-to-eye with, no PT, not as much success, and he figured "anywhere but here."

I was watching the nightly news on TyCsports and they said that Gallardo was close to going to DC United...... dont know if to believe them or not considering they also said Veron was coming here..... Ill wait till our DC man confirms it.

i posted this in the other rumor thread (why is there two?), but im a whore for attention.

wikipedia says his nickname is "the doll" due to his small size. this would go nicely with niell, which the blog dcumd says has the nickname "the dwarf."

You know what could be really sweet? Let's assume for a second that Gallardo is coming to DCU (which...1. he might not come to MLS and 2. it may be to someone else)...while part of me would be very sad (because Gallardo isn't coming here unless Gomez is leaving--and that will be sad) and part of me would be happy (because Gallardo has got game)...

...there are some NYRB fans speculating that Gallardo is coming to their team because Angel and Gallardo were on the same side in Argentina for 2 seasons. Imagine if Angel was the reason that Gallardo that came to MLS--that Angel basically told his former teammate "hey chico, it's a good league, checks don't bounce, definitely not a big step down!" and with that endorsement, that was the reason that Gallardo was willing to come to MLS (and DCU). Effectively that would mean that Angel was responsible for bringing Gallardo here (should it play out). Obviously a lot of speculation that remains to be determined but if it were so, that would really be rubbing it in: not only would we get Gallardo and not them, but their player would be one of the reasons we got him.

    This is a weird article.

It quotes Osorio as saying that the Reb Dulls are looking for a few players in South America and are "trying to squeeze in a playmaker" who is presumably Gallardo. To me it doesn't sound like he is their main focus, but a possibility. Maybe Osorio is putting up a smokescreen by trying to disguise his desire to sign up Gallardo. I just don't know.

He also says, "I can tell you that we have already found the players we need, but there are restrictions because of the salary cap.”

It is from a short "sports roundup" type blurb, and I have no idea as to how credible this paper is... but...

This is the only outright confirmation I've seen so far. Everything else I've read has his agent confirming that he is coming to MLS, but not giving anything up as to which club he'll be playing for.

I'm not sure where the author of that NYT story is getting his info, but he mentions that the Metrodonkeys may be able to buy out Reyna's contract to create the extra DP slot and cap space to sign Gallardo and some additional players. I know this is MLS and they make up the rules as they go along, but didn't Reyna sign a multiyear contract when he arrived?

Assuming this is true, do the rules even apply to LA or NY anymore? If not, why bother?
