My real life has kept me from complete soccer obsession of late. I'm never actually used the torrents so I'm not even 85% sure how to do that so many thanks for the youtube video. You'd think USSF could swing that ::roles eyes:: I'm glad to see the 442 and to hear Pia note that the team needs to be familiar with multiple formations. My guess is that she plans to blend the "newbies" through the tournament and to rotate players to keep them fresh, which makes tons of sense, to me. I can understand not making mass substitutions (ie all 5 or whatever is allowed) because that can upset the flow of the game. Oh yeah, and we didn't pull away until later. eta: So was Chalup. on the back line? If so, I hope one of the intrepid soccer reporters would ask about that switch.
just read the match report from US Soccer... U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo had to make a reaction save to knock down the point-blank header, then smothered the ball before a Canadian attacker could react. http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_4718593.html Didn't Ryan say something about Solo not being able to make the quick reaction saves. lol Looks like Pia bringing a breath of fresh air to the team.
I mean no personal insult or attack, but honestly how is the goalkeeper doing what goalkeepers are supposed to do spectacular news?
I think people should start spelling Ryan as Ry@n here like it's a word we're really not supposed to use. ;>) If Solo or Scurry are used in the same sentence then: So1o and Scvrry might do? ;>) The team has moved on nicely by the sound of things, shouldn't their followers follow?
WHOA!! Could that stadium be anymore empty??? It looks completely empty except for the friends and families of the players! LOL!
Anyone interested in seeing the game, someone on Go Big Red captured the stream and uploaded it. http://www.gobigred.ca/forum/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/2/126/2.html#000019
From the game highlight at USsoccer.com, you can see Pia's line-up chalk board (dots with no names). From that board, I think this is the starting line up: --------------Solo----------------- Sauerbrunn---Krieger---Rampone ---Chalup ----------------Boxx-----Osborn---------------- O'reilly--------------Lloyd----------------------- ----------------Amy---------Abby---------------- It is a lopsided 4-4-2 lineup. Chalup manned the whole left side by herself (when Chalup move up into the attack, the 3 in the back shift over to cover, transforming the formation to a 3-5-2). Boxx and Osborn are twin defensive mids, and Lloyd as the attacking mid. O'reilly as the right mid. Amy and Abby as the small and big (target) forwards.
Thanks for that, that makes sense. Here's a question, if Whitehill is healthy, where does she fit it, or doesn't she? Also, what about Lopez?
Cat is a central defender but I don't like her long ball style of play (she is also too slow), so I hope that Pia try out other central defenders who are better at playing the possession game. Lopez is not fast enough (nor has the stamina) to replace Chalup in that left wing back position and cover the whole left field by herself. If Lopez were to play at left back, Pia has to replace one of the defensive midfielders with Chalup, into a diamond formation, like this: -----------------------Solo--------------------- Sauerbrunn---Krieger---Rampone ---Lopez ----------------------Boxx--------------------- O'reilly-----------------------------------Chalup ----------------------Lloyd---------------------- ----------------Amy---------Abby----------------
Nice find. Explains a lot about the positioning I was seeing. Abby was playing a rather withdrawn roll, and Chalupny was all over that left side, often going endline to endline. I think that position works well for O'Reilly, especially with a quick forward up top in A-Rod.
Kind of, but not really. If you watch closely, you can see that her right shoe (outside) is blue with flourescent green and all you can see of ther left shoe is the inside which is flourescent green. I opened the picture in photoshop and blew it 300%; it's just a funky shoe; I found a model pretty close to it at nike.com. By the way if you type www.nike.com there are a stripe of mini-commercials; some include Adrian peterson Abby wambach Labron james matt scott If you select Abby's clip and then click on nikewomen, you'll see some new clips with the whole new "Athlete" Motto; some nice tid bits of Solo, Kai, Whitehill, and Abby (including the 80 some year old lady's picture there) so funny, go gradma!
