if LA wasnt the most hated club in the MLS before, they definatly are now. I personally hate Ruiz more than any other MLS player.
So now they have 3 DP's on there roster, this is a joke how the league let's them get away with this. Now next week they'll somehow get Figo to sign also.
Lalas may be a joke but he waas smart enough to trade for one of the players grandfathered into the new DP rules after having one of the others already on the roster (Landycakes). Plus he got Ruiz for allocation money and a draft pick. Both of which we have a lot of. Alot of people dont like Ruiz, but the right team sometimesmakes a difference with players with bad reps.... Like Rodman on the Bulls... Like TO on the Cowboys... LIKE BLANCO ON THE FIRE
im predicting Ruiz gets "fouled" a record amount of times outside the box, and Beckham to get a record amount of free kicks.... its a brilliant plan seeing as LA is thinned already
While they're not technically 3 DPs, their cap impact is the same. After these three, the gals have about $1m to pay the rest of the team, or about $40k per player. I wouldn't mind if we made a play for a guy like Klein, who would definitely help us out on the right, and the gals might welcome getting his salary off the books. Do you think landy-cakes wanders the lockerroom muttering 'when am I gonna get DPd? I wanna get DPd!'
There making over 400,000 that makes them DP's, just because the league decided to change the rule for LA doesn't change the fact there DP's.
Considering that the league already "protects" Donovan and Beckham, I think Otergod is right-on. Expect a ton of Beckham free kicks. While Jesse Marsch apologizes to Beckham for retaliating, and Beckham gets in his face wanting a fight, other players on other teams publicly announce that their game plan with respect to Blanco is to physically "rough him up a bit," and the league.. does.. nothing. CROWN THEIR ASSES ALREADY!!!
I guess the league changed the rule for Eddie Johnson and Ruiz in Dallas too, right? Oh wait. They did.
Yeah, now Ruiz is playing in LA and Eddie Johnson will be out of the league playing for Fulham. So 2 of the 3 players that should have been DP's in 2008 are with LA and the other one is leaving the league (So I guess LA make out pretty good with that rule change didn't they).
As it turned out, they did. But at the same time, if KC had offered EJ the $ 2M that Fulham is offering, we'd be looking at a different story.
So your point is that basically the league looks to create rules that "could" turn out to favor a certain team, even though they can't guarantee themselves that what they're intending to do will actually take place. Great bit of planning if that's really what goes on.
