Defender Christie Rampone Named Captain of the U.S. Women's National Team http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_4685825.html "U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team head coach Pia Sundhage has named defender Christie Rampone as the team’s new captain. “Christie has great experience on this team and has the respect of every player for what she has accomplished and how she conducts herself on and off the field,” said Sundhage. “She is a mother and has a great feel for how to be a leader and a teacher. I think it is a great choice for our team.” A good choice I think. She will make a good captain. I guess I'm a little surprised that Abby didn't get it though. Way to go Christie, make us proud!
I agree - great choice. If there was lingering strife on the team related to the WWC, I'd guess that Christie somehow steered clear of the fray - while someone like Abbie may still have bridges to repair. Just a guess - and whatever is the case, I've always respected Christie for her hard-nosed, consistent play. Way to go, Pia - I like how you surprise us!
good job pia. she probably indeed stayed out of the controversy, plus she is more experienced than abby or just about any one else. i still worry is about her concussion tho. even if she has recovered, reoccurrences are common.
Outstanding choice. I've thought for a long time that Kate would be a good C but this makes a lot of sense.
... she has the respect of every player for ... how she conducts herself on and off the field...." That is the main reason why Abby, even though the most vocal and the natural successor is not a captain yet.
