Heard on Colombian radio, that Osorio is in Colombia for the holidays, and is also searching for a central defender. No names were given.

Well at least we finally have some scouting going on...and in South America. Brilliant.

There is a new article from ESPN about how poorly South American players are paid so there is an incentive to come here. They specifically mention Argentina as a place for teams to look for cheap but fantastic talent.

I am sure all teams know this but maybe the Red Bulls will finally be able to rope in some good senior internationals outside of Angel.

Yepes! I am just making that up, but I think he would be a good fit. I think he plays in France and I doubt our ability to sign him, but it would be good.

    do you have a link?

IMO Colombian cen def still in Colombia that would ,imho, dominate Walter Moreno from Cucuta(starting nat central defender ahead of guys like Ivan Ramiro Cordoba, Luis Amaranto Perea, Mario Yepes)!

Although someone like Humberto Mendoza from Alt Nacional, or Hilario Cuenu from Alt Junior, imo would be an upgrade over anything Metro have at def. Both of those guys are big, play physical, and a threat for opposing teams during corner kicks(good in the air).

... and the MLS checks don't bounce. US money doesn't go as far in Europe as in days gone by, but it's still solid currency in most of the Americas.

Maybe the SA guy we tap could bargain for payment in Canadian dollars.

For the first 7 years of the MetroStars reign, it was pretty much an unwritten rule that the team had to have at least one Colombian on the team.

I agree with you 100%. I guess DC United is ahead of the game because they r doing just that. DC's been doing that since 1996. OZ try to do that, but they let him go. I hope Osorio gets some serious result. I'm sure he will.

I venture to say that, REGARDLESS of the country, there are players in general and central defenders in particular that are both affordable to the Red Bulls and could lift significantly their standard of defensive play. Osorio could probably get stinking drunk in Colombia, keel over and take the first defender he hit and do better than this franchise has done in the past. For some reason the MetroStars scouts have carried on the legacy of that famous investor in the 1930s/40s who thought television was the wave of the future and bought a s*itload of United Television Broadcasting stock. :)

All I'm asking for is a quality player that wants to be here for our club. Play hard for the shirt.

By the way who is Stalin Motta?

Stalin Motta is a attacking mid that plays for Equidad Seguros(a club started by a Insurance Compnay no joke) of Colombia DIMAYOR.

Motta is rightie IIRC but plays more on the left side, big characteristic is he takes on and goes around defenders and can score, and also sets up teammates on occasion.

Since he plays mostly on the left, I figure due to Reyna that JCO goes with two holding/dmids and two attacking mids ie a box midfield.

Seeing as the mid last year lacked a guy that created a threat from the midfield and had no one on the left Motta would kill two birds with one stone.

Stalin Motta set up the first goal of the green clad side and then scored the second goal

in the 25 minuteof game 1:22 of video he goes through three guys but no one accompanies him and he teammate just stood and watch otherwise could have ended in a goal. How many times this year did a Metro mid go thru three guys?

Well, I am Colombian and i am going in january to new york because the NYRB announced a Try Out for U20 players. I play as Forward but i had never played as professional, only University soccer. I think a lot of skilled colombian players are going to do the same thing now that Osorio in the head coach.

PD: Does any body know exactly when will the try outs be???? they don't give enought information in the website.

Most likely, if you get signed as a developmental player, you will not get much more than $12K.

Mendoza is wanted by River Plate in argetina and his asking price is $2 million... doubt he will come. also he has a huge temper and not worth that money

Moreno of Cucuta is only reason he is starting is becuase our NT coach is retarded and thinks that Cristian Zapata 20 year old starter(was captain early in the season of Udinese,Serie A) wouldnt be able to play for the NT w/o friendly experience.... thats all DEF NOT worth the money thye want from him. As for yepes and cordoba neither want to be called up, and Luis Perea is always injured.

Hilario Cuenu sucks !!! Junior SUCKS !!! and I am a Junior fan, they might be going down to 2nd div and um he is old tho will be cheap
