    Hilarious.

It would of been a little more P.C. to use a kit instead.

A little too disrespectful for my taste. Imagine if this were the other way around.

Agreed. I like the idea, dislike the execution.
Yeah, use a kit, not that.

It would be funnier if they used those rags at the USSF, in place of toilet paper.

I have to agree. Not classy, and despite the grievances we may have with them and their fans, we ought to maintain our own standards of behavior. If it were some kind of private gag between friends, that would be one thing, but I was a bit shocked to see this was allowed in a video on the official U.S. Soccer site.

yes..... for a video to be produced by a national organization, showing boots being cleaned using a rivals national flag is disrespectful... i wouldve thought US Soccer had more class than that.

i could see Jay using the jersey of one of his personal rivals, but using a nations flag is pretty lame.

I'm all for freedom of expression, but that was something US Soccer should have nixed! It shows no class whatsoever. I'm hoping it was a mistake that was not noticed by the editors.

DUDE! comparing the burning of the US flag to using their flag as a boot rag is a terrible argument....we do it in jest.....they do it in hate.....grow a pair. This is starting to become one of FIFA's best rivalrys and you guys are complaining that were being mean?!?!?! That whole video is a comedy skit and should be treated as such, on the other hand if your offended then maybe you should root for MEXICO

oh "they" do it in hate? do they? maybe its all "jest" to them...

im sure ALL the mexicans appreciate you speaking for them....

would it make it any better if the mexicans were wiping their backsides with our flag? after all, it would be in jest, right?

Look of "class" in the dictionary, and get back with me... i thought the Soccer House had more than what that one segment of that video showed

Let us also not forget that a good number of our fellow US Soccer supporters are children or grandchildren of immigrants (myself included :)). I would think our supporters with Mexican heritage don't think it's too funny.

Without getting into my personal beliefs, our society would be up in arms if Mexican soccer players or French basketball players or Japanese baseball players used our flag as a polishing rag. Bill O'Reilly would have a field day! Please don't use the "Osama" chants during Olympic qualification as an argument because idiots are everywhere, I just never pictured Jay DeMerit as being one.

you shouldn't disrespect another country's flag.
    bottom line.

if we're gonna call them out for a lack of class, for chanting osama, etc. ... then we should call out demerit. I'm not interested in degrees of crassness: is this worse in osama chants? who cares? is it wrong? yes. the fed should tell him to stop.

It seems to have been removed already. If it is completely gone, that was right thing to do and accomplished surprisingly quickly.

It's a matter of respect. I would be terribly offended if someone used the US flag to do anything like that "as a joke".
I'm not saying that they're being mean, they're being disrespectful.
So because I believe that they acted in a disrespectful manner, I should root for Mexico? That is one of the most idiotic thing I've read here. Just because they are representing our nation doesn't mean they get a free pass. If anything, they should be held to a higher standard. A standard they failed to live up to with that video.

I would be surprised if it was his idea. I would bet on most of the ideas in that video being from a team of USSF people and Jay just acting out what they told him to do with a little bit of improvisation...

I blame Neil Buethe. It's always his fault
Either way, I think Jay should be held at least a little bit responsible. He didn't have to do it.

ahh screw it!! I blame Steve Sampson!!:D

Pesonally it doesn't bother me AT ALL!!! and I'm not here to judge if it's right or wrong. I know we're a MUCH BETTER NATION and why lower ourselves to their level, but after seeing **********ing "dirty sanchez" trying to take out one of our players... this doesn't even compare to the mehico class level... Just see this as adding fire to the rivalry and not much pass that...

I really hope this thread doesn't become a political/whatever thread, I posted this cuz I thought it was cool (flag or no flag) Even if a kit was used, I'm sure somebody would complaint cuz it's representing a nation blah blah blah... so whatever have you... somebody would make a case regardless...

Happy New Year, and best wished to the NATS in 2008!!! and the worse for the mehico soccer team...

Edit: if vid is removed and you would like to see what we're talking about, PM... I have some screenies of the video... I might even post them here...

The link here still works, but I don't see any link to the video on the US Soccer site. Somebody at US Soccer apparently responded to messages from people (like me) who think this was beneath us (US). They did the right thing, imo.

"Grow a pair"?? How about grow up.

If this were rival clubs using each others jerseys to clean their shoes with, I'd be fine with it because that's what club rivalries are.
Using a Mexican flag is just horrible. It's kind of sending a message that we think their country is worthless, which obviously isn't true.
I think our rivalry with Mexico is great, but it doesn't need to get political.

So throwing coins and bags full of piss is acceptable forms of expression? Come on man if pride in ones country revolves around a piece of cloth then they have worse problems then wondering what some football player is doing.
