I heard that Red Bulls will be making the preseason trip to SC again for the Carolina Challenge Cup. Nothing is official yet but the tenative dates are Mar 15-22 (Sat to Sat)

I know a few supporters have come down in the past and its a good week with lots of soccer. The Battery supporters usually host a couple big tailgates with free beer and food sothere may be some other events going on that week. Toronto FC is locked and San Jose is suppobably the third MLS team involved. About 15 or so TFC supporters are planning on coming down and renting a beach house for the week. If anyone is thinking about coming down, let me know and I'll make sure your taken care of.

That's all that's rumored? Booooring . . c'mon, what about the Barcelona 1st team rematch? What about playing Manchester United at Old Trafford, brought to you by Setanta Sports?

    Jeez...am I spoiled? I think I am.

It was a good time. there are quite a few TFC fans making plans to rent a beach house for the week and we will be hosting the usual beer and food before the match.

Cindy said I could stay with her, but I like being within walking (crawling) distance of the 3 lions  I don't think I moved my car from that first tailgate... The TFC fans down last year were nice, can't wait for this year! Hope we are invited

I thought JPP went to Norway or Denmark or something like that. When did we get him back?

Did you mean Juan Pablo Angel? If not, FYI, Red Bull NY sold Jean Phillipe Peguero to a Danish team last year.

Heard from a very good source that Red Bulls are indeed playing in the tournament along with Toronto, San Jose and the host the Charleston Battery. The tickets are supposed to go on sell on Jan 14 so I expect the official announcement any day now. The dates im hearing are MAr15-22 with matches on Saturday, Wed. and Saturday.

If anyone is planning the trip down and has any questions, let me know. We are planing on a couple tailgates, a possible pub crawl and depending on the TV schedules, some match watching of the U23 and/or EPL matches. Im also working on some hotel deals for visiting supporters. I'll post a link to a central thread for those interested.

Posted this in the ESC forum as well, but I was told today that they are scheduling a friendly with Real Madrid. My rep confirmed it with a co-worker.

So either, it's true or there are two mis-informed saleswomen working.

k guys Real Madrid, Barca , Man U are all great teams

but I would really like it if NYRB play'd a Colombian team maybe Millos or Nacional. that would drive Colombains to the game and if you win prob get more fans

I mean Millos might be easier because of the Osorio factor but last Year Nacional played like a game in CT and 2 in NY that I went to

would be good game and two more accessable teams than to have Real Madrid come and like half ass their preformance

If Real Madrid is coming, I can tell you it's not going to be during the La Liga season. It's going to be during our season and when their is a free date in the middle of the RBNY schedule once it's released by MLS. Also we lost a chance to have seperation for a match against Madrid since the club isn't starting the season in San Jose on March 29th because the venue isn't ready for the Quakes.

But knowing MLS they won't lose a major payday when someone of stature like Real Madrid is coming over to the states.

If you're trying to make the case that the Colombian teams would be a better draw than the big 3 you mentioned, you're gonna have to do a better job. ;)

Why is the assumption always that the big team is going to come over and half ass it? Barca didn't half ass their performance when they came here, did they?

I think you could make a case for a team half assing while playing in Kansas City, Columbus, Salt Lake, etc... (no offense to those clubs, btw)

but it's New York City. Even for the world's largest clubs, it makes sense to put on a show in a media market of this size.

Spoke to the Front office yesterday about buying tickets for this tourney.

They are in the process of changing over to a new ticket system and are having trouble iwth one aspect of it, Once they get it up, you will be able to buy your tickets and print them out directly from the Battery website similar to etix. this is a huge time saving messure for limited manpower in the front office, taking awaythe need to coordinating tickets and mail, not to mention hopefully it will save a lot of will call pickups on game day,

short of it is they hope to have it up sometime next week and if they can't they might just do it the old fashion way until they can get the bugs worked out.
