I have the same problem with issue 2. I emailed yesterday and they mentioned they would ship one right out and that they have had problems with their distribution in the US (which is frightening since that has to be the vast majority of their subscription base).
MLS Mag is really boring. It's just a hype mag, zero journalistic integrity, 100% PR for the league. If anyone wants to petition to bring Striker back, I'll hand it into my boss!
Good point Sublicon. What does the MLS Magazine offer that we can't already get for free from the many soccer sites already out there. Not slamming the mag, just honestly curious.
Ya. I much preferred Striker. Too bad for them. It was good magazine. I have bought the MLS one. But meh, its not the same. I suppose I will keep buying it though...
Bought both. Striker, to be kind, sucked. Really. For guys who claimed to have dreamed for years to bring a real soccer mag to the States, that dream was either heavily compromised or they don't quite know what a real soccer magazine is. Lame articles. Poor writing. Zero depth to them. MLS has some flaws, but overall is a top notch magazine like we've never had here. Great coverage of the league, and true passion for MLS. Anybody remember how many American soccer players/America based players were on the covers of Striker in its brief existence?
I like the magazine a lot. My second issue been delayed due some BS at mail delivery. I called up and they sent me another issue right away.Soccer America is so so , but this magazine rocks.
MLS mag sucks, to be kind. Not sure what planet you're on to prefer that to Striker...Seriously I bet you couldn't find 10 people who agree with your assessment. The market for a successful soccer magazine is more likely centered among the hundreds of thousands of 13-25 year olds, who are playing the game now, who listen to as much rap as rock and whose parents probably weren't born here. I'm guessing that doesn't describe you. And few US players if any were really cover-worthy at the time Striker launched. Freddy Adu and DMB both had covers though IIRC. Now I think we're starting to get to the point where a Striker-like mag could mix it up, half US player covers, half foreign players *that are somehow relevant to US market*....Deuce is cover-worthy now, DMB was until he got hurt, another could have been done on the U-20's, another on the Keepers in the EPL etc. etc... I know the ex-Striker team is hungry for a re-start... Harris-Pub AND MLS need to wake the eff up.
I liked Striker. I bought the first MLS Mag and subscribed and got the second one. I haven't gotten anything since. It's really hard to do this, as anyone who's done it will tell you. It's really expensive and the actual market for it simply isn't large enough to make it sufficiently profitable. Every couple of years someone tries and it doesn't end well. I don't think this is a great magazine by any stretch of the imagination, but I like the concept and would like to see it do well. I recently picked up the UK version of Esquire and it was far superior to our version, too (much like FourFourTwo is superior to anything we've had). I wonder why that is - are the English just better at creating compelling magazine content than we are?
I recieved both issues....number two issue came later than I would have expected. They could work on their editing and spelling errors, graphics and text layouts, but much of the content and articles have been informative. Has good photographs just not always laid out on the page in a readable design.
To be honest, I don't think a lot of people have noticed. Which is part of the problem. So, no, it's not a major black eye. This, incidentally, is apparently the third issue. I haven't gotten it.
They did a few double covers . . Adu, Donovan, DMB (i think), and Ronaldo and Ronaldinho on the international front, I believe. It didn't have a long run, so not much variety. I thought it has some excellent interviews and features, and did a very good job in mixing it up between international and domestic. Where I think the editorial fell short, is covering those leagues and figures that are on the forefront of your typical american soccer fans mind. I mean its good stuff, but tell us something we don't know for a change. Harris is awake, dude. Trust me. The reality is that the readership and advertising potential is slimmer than hell in the USA. The editorial team might be up for it but the publishers wouldn't be. I think all the editorial guys are pretty preoccupied with SLAM also. I honestly don't think a resurgence will happen, unfortunately. The magazine business is a bitch. You can only go so far on passion alone.
Did anyone subscribe to Soccer VM? They took my $50 bucks if I remember correctly. Got the first DVD. Nothing since. Thieves!
Run by CON MEN!!! Check the other posts about these guys. They taken LOTS of peoples $$$ and never delivered!
I would like you to go to www.socceregg.com you will see the magazine there clearly and it seems that whilst there has been some problems with some subscribers out of thousands who have been very happy they have been sorted out with mass emails and replies and there is always a element of people who will distort things to make it look bad two people who wanted to work for the magazine and did a bad job and have actually ripped of the material and stolen content from some large companies allied to the publication have made some innuendo to try and do damage which is typical when a publication is good and battling all the elements of a deep recession to still produce a high quality product all i will say is go to www.soccer egg.com see the website and the magazine and if there are any subs problems let the billing@soccermediausa.com know by email and it will be sorted straight away and copies sent out it is good to knock but not to praise and the USA deserves a good publication and there is one so stop knocking it and listening to idle gossip from ex employees or freelancers who are inadequate and could not do their job functions and check it out for yourselves and order a copy or read it online it supports all of soccer across the spectrum and is a quality product
no con men please email billing@soccermediausa.com if you have a subs problem and it will be sorted out immediately
There has been posted on the forum some innuendo re the soccer magazine by people who were inadequate at their job and so decided to knock the publication because it did not want to employ them also there are certain persons who have stolen material and copy from the archives of the soccer magazine and have since made up stories to cover their tracks the soccer magazine replaced Major league soccer magazine in Jan 2009 as it grew to deal with all areas of soccer not just MLS so it now has grown and has a excellent online version on the website www.socceregg.com where you will see the quality of the content on the site and the magazine and if anyone has any queries or problems about a subscription email billing@soccermediausa.com and this will be addressed immediately the magazine is doing well and the online website is one of the best in soccer and growing all we ask is check it out and join in with the thousands of other subscribers who are totally happy and enjoy the read and please ignore people who make stories up to suit their own needs
