Nevertheless many of those impressive and inspirational deeds of mankind were inspired by belief in invisible men in the sky and so called cultist hocus pokus.
Which ones? The ESB? The Chrysler? The Woolworth? Nope. Stright up capitalism was the motivation there.
Por favor, che. I fell in love with this one last time I was there. Actually I fell in love with the whole city. And GELP.
In the same way you don't want druggies and loud people as neighbors. I'm not saying that illegals are druggies or loud...I am saying that is the general tone of contempt that they hold towards border jumpers.
The question is protection from what? Lost jobs, lower wages, higher housing prices, impacted infrastructure, etc. I think we have a misunderstanding by using the word unwanted. Read me previous post to Panfilo. Most people that live here obviously have a reason to stay here. My opinion came from the opinions of people who live in their home countries. Great questions, I see your point. But from what I understand, our problems with illegal immigration are about as old as those in europe...so do you think they have a hand up on us as far as knowledge on how to handle it? Care to clarify which of my views are racist, and how? I have already stated, I would like open borders, but will not accept them until the welfare state policies are gone. I think it is well thought though and I haven't changed my point about it at all. If you get rid of welfare state policies, like I have already mentioned multiple times...then the only reason you would come to the USA is to work hard. It would get rid of all the incentives that bring welfare junkies here. BTW...when I say welfare I mean all forms...not just the Welfare Program. In other words, you don't need to have to find a way to filter them out...get rid of the incentives and the welfare junkies will stop coming. The only reason the analogy doesn't work is because we have strayed from the discussion where it worked. Someone claimed that if we don't let people into our country, we are holding other countries back selfishly. I was merely claiming that it is possible to not let someone into your home and still help them. If you come to work, then that is fine with me. If we eliminated the welfare program, then I can only see two reasons to go through the trouble of immigration: 1) To work, and 2) refugee status.
Re: Legal immigrants oppose illegal immigration So it is now a requirement to be an MLS fan to be considered American? No thanks, I prefer real soccer.
If you're going to do New York and Ayn Rand, you're facing the wrong side of the street. Turn around and photograph this: EDIT: That's what I get for taking a phone call before posting - a day late and a dollar short.
Since this thread is shot to shit, do you have any recomendations for a nice Mendoza table wine. I've been drinking alot of Norton, Trapiche and Alamos and I'm looking for some variety.
If you live close to a Cost Plus (World Market), they are always bringing interesting Argentine wines priced very reasonably. I recently bought a nice Malbec for $5.99 called 'Lo Tengo' Malbec and it was great value for the price. They also have a 'Lo Tengo' white wine. Odd name, but good for the price. Another good one is 'Gaston' Malbec, I think around ten bucks. I bought a case of that. If you want to go for something a bit more expensive for a special occasion, you can't go wrong with a 'Catena' Malbec or Cabernet. If you really want to spend for a great wine, look for a 'Mapema'. In fact, I'm thinking of getting into the wine business, I have some very good contacts with growers in Mendoza. But it's still a bit premature right now.
for a different take on the same thing, try a French Red from the Cahors region (SW France)...they use primarily Malbec and produce some nice wines in the $10-$20 range
Excellent. My father in law has made me pretty much swear off all wines not from Argentina or Chile (because he says they really are from Argentina, they just got lost on the wrong side of the mountains). Would you be funding a vineard or importing? A friend of mine is a part owner of a small one.
I'm looking to export from Argentina, work with some growers. I can't afford to fund a vineyard. Maybe when I get rich, LOL! It would be a dream. I have some interested contacts in the far east and Central America, but possibly I could do something in the US eventually. BTW, I see from your quote of my previous post that I mispelled the wine I'm recommending. It should be 'Gascon', not 'Gaston'.
So people in Mexico and Honduras have a general tone of contempt for people who have jumped the borders? I can assure you that unless they are actual drug dealers you won't get this kind of reaction from people in Mexico or Honduras regarding illegals. If anything they sympathize with them and know why they did it. No contempt what so ever.
