I think its a great idea. Along with the utilikilt, I also have a traditional family tartan kilt. It would be awesome to have a dynamo tartan to call our own. I know that there are pleanty of tough guys who wouldn't wear a kilt, but for those of us who already know the freedom of unbifurgated garments, it would be awesome to be able to have our own tartan to wear with pride. My only suggestion would be a little moer black and a noticible ammount of houston blue as an accent. Rock on for yall getting this together.

    Cheers.

Since i started the process.. let me get a few designs and will post them on here and we can go from there... if you check the U of Tennessee Link the person that designed its tartan is willing to help for free in designing us a tartan.. so lets go from there and then find a supplier. i will keep everyone posted when the designs selections are available.. with input from everyone will come up with an awesome tartan representing us.. The key i believe is the color combinations and not too much white...

Yes, little white, more black and mostly orange. Keep the blue to a minimum, unless it really sets off the orange, in which case, knock yourselves out. I'm so glad the Scots didn't come up with paisley patterns in their tartans - therefore, no swirls!

80% orange, no more than 5% white, and the difference in black and blue. If more blue is required, do not go below 75% orange...

Wow. I had been looking a few months back at seeing what a kilt made-to-order would go for, but it quickly got way to much out of my limited budget. I didn't even consider a group effort - my hat's off to you guys for stepping up to do this.

Does anyone know if any other US footie team has a designated tartan? I'd like to see what they look like...

I should have guessed. I remember seeing one or two of you up there in kilts - was that the official one?

if the dynamo tartan gets made, i think we all need to get kilts. it'll make it soooooo much easier to moon pachuca when they come back to town

[IMG] Yeah, that looks like like what I remember, more or less. It's been a few years...

Make that last image - the Timbers' Army sample - orange, split the white into two (equal) or three (one large center and two smaller and equal outside) black lines, delete the yellow, and change the dark blue to Space City Blue. I'm too far gone on Scotch right now, otherwise I'd Paint Shop Pro it now...

Okay, took me a while, I was putting up our Christmas lights off and on for the past 24 hours (why do we do that, anyway? )

Sorry about the washed out colors - apparently, photobucket converts any image into .jpg format, and resolution is lost during the conversion. I have a 5-color-count bitmap of the above that looks outstanding when tiled on my desktop. Anyone else have the resources to post this? I'll PM it to you.

Feel free to save, alter and repost your ideas from this sample.

I imagine it looks really good in its unaltered format.

I like 6 and 7. I like thick dark lines - I also like it to somewhat reflect the checkerboard design of our flags.

5 and 6 are my favorite, i think they are the coolest looking ones, they look more powerful and proud which is what a tartan should be.

    Re: Houston Dynamo Tartan Design

Shoot. About the only one didn't like (initially) was #7 - too much white. I know we wear some white on the field of battle, but I stilll wish we didn't. I like the blacker ones better.

I'll echo CeltTexan's stance on #9, but I admit, at first I wasn't too fond of it either, until I realized that I was comparing it to the other, bolder (and relatively "blacker" or "darker") weaves, which is akin to not liking a Maserati because of its color. Hey, it's STILL a Maserati. You know deep down you'd do almost anything to get your hands on one.
