That's a great photo. You know that George had an impact when you see one of the opposition pausing for a moment to watch.
Geez falvo, NASL drapes!? That takes the cake. Do you own these or did you just find the photo somewhere? [And behind the drapes, the Shakers!!]
falvo needs to find out where all of those Shakers are at the present time, get pictures of each one and post them in sort of a "Where Are They Now?" presentation.
That'd be nice, though it'd be even nicer if ESLLC also found a new generation of currently 18-26 year old Shakers. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
You can find those old Shakers cutting fish at Barsanti's Race Street Fish & Poultry! hehehe!!!!!! Laurie Calloway Boris Bandov Derek Craig & Buzz Demling

i had the day off work to pay homage to jinky. i have no qualms in saying that i cried my heart out when the hearse passed.
From page 15, here is Scottish great Jimmy Johnstone & Johnny Moore. He looked old even then at 36...I guess he was hitting it hard in those days and especially his time with the Quakes.
Jinky was one of the greatest players ever to play the game. When you looked at how guys like Pele, Beckenbauer, Eusebio and Best looked at Jinky and the respect that they held him in, you realised how special he was. He was absolutely world class. He did not really turn it in in San Jose but it was all down to the fact that Celtic had just released him and he was brokenhearted to leave the Club that he loved all his life. He did turn it on at times with us and he was spellbinding when he did. A great Player and a great guy who was loved by so many including me. To the fans who never saw him, he was a guy who could beat people for fun and go back and beat them again before crossing a ball right on the strikers head. Devastating when he wanted to be. He turned up at an Earthquake practice one morning after a long night on the town. The coach gave him some shit during the training game and suddenly he got hold of the ball, beat everyone on the opposing team (some of them twice) stuck it in the net and walked off. Nobody could touch him. He knew he was wrong but he wanted us to know how good he really was. Great balance, ball control, bravery, speed, determination, passion he had it all and then some. his performance against Real Madrid when he tore them apart was historic. He toyed with the best team in the world at the time and put on an personal exhibition that is still talked about 40 years later. I am proud just to have shared a dressing with this genius. I cried when he passed a way. A great player, a hilarious character, a great team-mate. God rest you Jinks.
Jimmy Johnstone waits over the ball as the Seattle defender commits himself with a fast rush. Moments later the Scot centered the ball unmolested. GK Mike Ivanow
Wow, Johnny. Thanks for that. In my voluminous ignorance of the history of the Beautiful Game, I had never heard of him. And he played here in San Jose! Your post reads like a Ken Burns documentary. I'm increasingly certain that the history of soccer here deserves such treatment.
Check out this website. The guy says he has videotapes of 350 NASL games, maybe there is one with Jinky and the Earthquakes. http://www.davebrett.com/
That guy has a ton of recorded NASL games. My wife and I were married on July 7, 1984. The next day, we had a tailgate party before and after a game with the Tulsa Roughnecks. Our entire group attended the game. He has that game and I am intending to purchase it. Pretty cool really. We were congratulated during the game, so maybe we will hear it. By that time, I had become fairly well acquainted with Dave Chaplik, who had been the coach at Santa Clara University, but was with the Quakes by '84. He brought Don Popovic and Mike Hunter to the after game part of the tailgate party. That was a fun day.
Being a Sounder fan from NASL days I am looking at getting some DVD's also. He has most of Seattle's record breaking 1980 season, and many other games also. For you old Quake fans, it looks like he has 7 games featuring George Best, plus one game where he commemtated while on suspension.
he replied to my e-mail. he has two DVD's that feature jinky. he has 1 highlights match (20mins): 1975 Earthquakes v Sounders the other says a san jose earthquakes film (13mins) $25 for both on a DVD.
Seattle Sounders 1980,,, I believe this is a picture of our Quakes at Seattle Sounder circa 80 or 81. Isn't that George Best in the center in front of the GK?
