OK. I assumed that since it kicked off the last of February in 2006 and 2007 that it would be the same for 2008. No real reason to assume that, though.

Not exactly, there are more Dynamo fans in Houston than Pachuca fans. Or at least more show up to Robertson Stadium.

Screw homework, I'm doing a play by play, at least until I go to class. They just introduced all the people in attendance. The J-League president, the SUM president, some other guy, Brian Ching, and they announced that the president/CEO of MLJ, Inc (who?) is there to represent the sponsor

Looks like I might not need to do play-by-play since all the details are already online. Guess I'll just mention anything significant they say.

Hawaii is five hours behind New York, so it's 11:00pm ET on the first match and 1:30 am ET on the second.

Even if you're in Houston, if you're in the final and it's on TV, it starts at 11:30 pm.

Hey, I'm a huge Galaxy fan and you won't get any argument out of me. I guess we can only hope that this is a one year exception for including a crappy MLS side.

Who'd have thought that finishing 11th was the required spot for qualifying for this tournament. If only the other teams knew beforehand!

Re: Pan Pacific Championship might be happening?!

    Well lets see:

    1) A team finishing 11th in MLS "qualified"
    2) There are only 2 games to determine the winner
    3) Related to #2 but you don't play everyone else first...should be 4 games
    4) Crap time in the US
    5) A team who has been bad for several years "qualified" :p

    Did I miss anything?

Oh, I did forget one thing

    6) It'll be on artificial surface, which means that if Ching plays, it won't be for long

The thing about this competition is that it is special, and it has the potential to be huge money maker. You gotta hand it to Lalas though, as much as he is hated by many in the BS, he does have passion, and he has vision. We can get quality competitions and a lot, I mean a least a billion eyes watching Asia, Concacaf, A-league championship.

I feel like the MLS marketing plan is like RISK in some ways. Forget about Europe for now, amass the troops in Japan (nd Kamchatka), and begin to reinforce until we pull the Kubla-Khan, then attack Europe from the East.
AEG organized this. Let LAG have a day.

    Gambi mothers!

The reason given for the inclusion of the Galaxy in this tournament: making it to the 2007 Superliga Finals. :)

International tourney to debut Feb. '08 in Hawaii
New Pan-Pacific Championship to feature top teams from MLS, J.League and Hyundai A-League

Except that they've been "having a day" for quite some time now. And, as is obvious ATM, they aren't the best at representing us. The J is sending their champ, the A is sending a top 3 team, and we are sending one of our champs. Why not send another one of ours?

With LAG in this it's just another friendly. LAG shoud not be in it at all. Nothing more then a way to generate $$ on Beckman. DCU/NE should be the 2nd team. Why not a 2nd team from the A-league & J-league too?

    Because they weren't invited.

If (fill in the blank owner) wanted to organize a friendly pre-season outing, than he could invite whoever he wanted. Krafts didn't. Hunt didn't. Red Bull didn't. Ditto DCU/KC/SJE/TFC. Do you really need any more information as to why those teams aren't involved?

    So says the corpse.....

Still would rather see this be a MLS thing, not a AEG (though I thought SUM was organizing it....they do have final say on any changes to the tournament).

Still keepin my fingers crossed on the SL being Top 4 and yada yada yada [/threadjack]

Where would MLS be without AEG? I know for a fact that if AEG does not push ahead, nobody would. If it would not have been for AEG, HOUSTON and Mr. Naranja would not have a team.
AEG is behind all these so called "tournaments" and until AEG are no longer part or involved in these tourneys you will see the Galaxy as the main attraction.
