Surprises keep on comming. What about Reyna? They better hire a great coach...Otherwise 2008 will not be any better.
Well I must say I'm not entirely surprised as Clint seemed to be one of Bruce's moves. Doubt he'll perform well in the travelling circus.
Well.. 12 years of this revolving door cluster----. Is anyone else starting to wonder why they still support this mess?
I bet our next move is a double trade with toronto for marvell wynne and todd dunivant. In return we give up all of our draft picks, 100k in cash, a bag of balls, a case of redbull and dema kovalenko. We will then buyout reynas contract and trade our second DP slot to chicago for the rights to sign osorio as new coach.
Mathis will always be one of my favorite Metro/RBNY players and he provided decent cover with Reyna's injuries this year. I will always appreciate 13Legend, but.... that having been said, his best days are clearly behind him and I don't think he had a future here. He started off the season strong but faded long before Arena buried him on the bench. He doesn't have the quickness any more to play forward and didn't seem too comfortable in midfield. He still has to renegotiate a new contract and is probably going to want far more than we were willing to pay. In some way, this may have been a favor for Clint. There is no free agency in MLS, but if Alexi is willing to pay more, and Agoos knew that, this may have been a way to do him a favor while clearing cap room for us, getting a draft pick, and simplifying our choice of who to protect in the expansion draft. Good luck, Cletus. You'll always be a Metro.
This wouldn't surprise me. If you guys remember there was an interview with Mathis earlier in the year, and he had stated that he really wanted to play in LA, and that NY was his second choice.
Except for sentimental value, who would be upset to see him go? You can't rebuild a team and keep players way past their prime.
If that happens, I will sell my season tickets and officially renounce my allegiance to this team, and will join the losers hoping and praying for a second New York franchise.
I thought Mathis was on your books for less than $100k this year? And I know it is semantics - but isn't this deal for his rights since he is out of contract?
well now with mathis gone i belive it was this under the cap mathis 200k waterboy 200k Schopp(hopefully gone) 200k that makes 600k to spend on players that is very good in my opinion
