It had Fenty's profile, and as far as I could tell from across the field, it was a quote where Fenty said, essentially, I will do what it takes to help build a new stadium for DC United in the city.

What everyone has failed to realize, is that quote was made on Halloween, and it wasn't in-fact Fenty, but Kevin Payne in black-face.

I talked to more than a few people who are flat out pissed off at the mayor et al over this. Barring a miracle I think we're in Silver Spring.

Dear Mayor, you are ********ing up (for reference please see Redskins pack bags for Landover).

I was driving when my wife pointed those signs out to me.

She said, "MILF Cup? Does that mean there are gonna be a ton of hot moms there tonight?"

The stand I went to didn't have a bottle opener. The workers were trying (mostly in vein) to pop the caps off with a lighter after people bought their beers. It was sooo RFK. I turned to my friend and said, "we're never gonna be rid of this place are we"

    Eurosnob! :D

I think it would be more of a miracle to end up in Silver Spring - there's no room and the transport links aren't good enough. PG County far more likely.

That sounds Awesome! I'd love a stadium up near my house. Where do we sign the PG County petition? I'm all for that! At least this way we know DC United will get it's share of the revenue instead of loading up some corrupt official on Gucci and Gambling.

So I wrote the mayor several emails about the stadium, dating back to August, when I first heard that he abandoned negotiations with the team. I finally, today, got a response - a form letter. Wow. Mr. Blackberry in two hands (remember his campaign ad?) really has fallen off with regard to constituent communications. First I've seen that the site is designated for sports purposes only by the way...

    Mr. Sheon,

Thank you for your correspondence dated October 17, 2007 regarding the DC United Stadium for Ward 8. Please be advised that a “Request for Expression of Interest” was issued for Poplar Point on August 10, 2007 and was due by October 19, 2007 by 12:00pm. My Administration hopes to garner ideas for this site, which may include a soccer stadium.

Also, the site is owned by the National Park Service and is managed by the Government of the District of Columbia for sports purposes only. Any future plans for this site will be subject to a Master Planning Process. The community leaders and residents will be kept abreast of the plans as they unfold.

    Sincerely,

    Adrian M. Fenty

    Mayor

By the way, the "news" of DC residents gathering signatures for a petition to send the mayor to protest the new $4 cab base fee made USA Today, because, I believe, they issued a press release about it. Should we not develop and issue a press release when we deliver this petition to his honor? By the way, when are we delivering the petition and how exactly does that work? Or did it happen already?

You know, that strikes me as a pretty decent idea.

Perhaps SE, BB, LN, EU and others ought to form some sort of single-issue co-alition like a "DC Supporters United" so that we could put that kind of stuff out. I bet we could get it some play.

Why would they want an irrelevant quote from a mayor more than a decade ago on a large banner that is bringing attention to the current administration turning their back on a soccer stadium? That would just look dumb and ignorant.

How about putting the stadium next to the Germantown soccerplex? Downside: little to no public transportation
Upside: 15 minutes from my house.:D
