I was just flipping channels and saw it. Interesting. I got a serious question about the La Raza team. Isn't La Raza like a racial separatist group? I was a bit taken aback by the name. It'd be like naming a team the Black Panthers or Skinheads. Weird.
No doubt... whose jr. high A/V club is producing this game? Someone needs to remind the director that just because you have five cameras doesn't mean we have to see them all every change of possession. Granted I've never seen indoor soccer down really well, but this is hard to watch
That said, I haven't had a chance to watch an MISL game in years so this is kinda nice... are they going to have games weekly on FSC?
I think my friends and I can play indoor better. Did you see the keeper come out and lose the ball and then the player miss the wide open goal with a the defender in goal, the guy toe balled it over the goal. Very ugly. You are right about the camera work too, they missed the first goal by showing the La Raza coach.
all i could think when i first tuned in was "AHHH, land hockey." i'm going to have to catch up on all the rules and teams...maybe that will make it more interesting.
Someone needs to put a muzzle on that "We want more" "Let's go Blast" cheerleader type guy The music can be somewhat tuned out, but that guy is just obnoxious
Wow - you guys weren't kidding. I just called Comcast and upgraded to get the NFL channel and Fox Soccer Channel. Funny aside, I was all prepared to play the "I want to cancel" game, but they immediatly (after I said I wanted those two channels) upgraded my package for a year, for $15 a month less than I am paying now. Anyway, the announcers are good, but the camera work is horrible. I feel like it could make me sick. Honest. The cameras just keep bobbing up and down. Seasick. Also, nice rug in Baltimore, but what is with the two sets of two seams running lengthwise between the midfield line and both yellow lines?
I'd venture to guess those seams were at one time ads, have since been cut out and new blank turf stitched in. The Blast are starting to pull away, up 12-5 now
La Raza made it interesting with a couple 6th attacker goals, made it a one possession game, and Delevski came close to tying it up in the last 10 seconds... but 12-9 Blast is the final
In response to an earlier poster - FSC has 7 (I think that's the number) MISL games on its schedule this season.
7!?!?!? I guess you don't venture to these boards often...... Kevin, 20 games....it's friday night futbol! I do agree the camera work was better after the first quarter and the PA guy could have been turned down a bit and crowd turned up. Btw, LaRaza keeper = Man of the Match EASILY
Hell, Denison Cabral's post game interview sounded better than anyone else tonight. Like he knew what he was talking about.
Does anyone know why Erich Geyer was yelling at Dino Delevski with such intensity after Monterrey scored to cut the score to 12-7? I know he always yells intensely... One thing I noticed is the Monterrey players started to go into the goal to get the ball (an outdoor thing to do that doesn't make sense indoors, but it always intimidated the hell out of me and made me go "We're about to blow another lead to La Raza."), but the refs seemed to prevent them. The Blast gave away two for one tickets and still only had MAYBE 4,500 for their big TV debut. I'm sure Soccer-Man will have something to say like the tickets were all sold, but were donated to Mexicans, who were not allowed to cross the border to go to the game. I thought Bontti was just OK. He was aided by a few great defensive blocks. He seemed to mostly be in good position to make the stop, but didn't do anything fancy. La Raza made way too many sloppy passes in their own end. The Blast could have taken more advantage of that. I'm a little dubious that the shots were actually 39-9 Baltimore after three quarters. My pet peeve #1281 is that they NEVER announce the fourth quarter shots (I mean why bother putting up the numbers through three then, right?).
Hmmm, it was 12-5 when I left with 3 minutes left on the clock. I started to think all of the official's timeouts were due to commercial breaks. It took forever to get through the first qtr. It's been awhile since I've been to a game. Has it always been this bad?
Two other things I noticed about the broadcast: 1) when PA guy shouted I had a hard time hearing the announcers and 2) FSC didn't keep the score and clock on the screen at all times - made it feel like watching sports back in the 80s. The Monterrey GK did have a busy night w/ some nice saves, Blast Unis were good, and I am going to like having indoor on TV (even though I beefed about some things) for 20 weeks.
Eddie Hale was on the radio half-time show. He is campaigning for public funds for a new arena to built outside of downtown in Haleville. He mentioned that he will need tax funds to build it but no NHL or NBA is planned. Build a new arena for the Blast, the CBA and/or AHL in Haleville near his bank? Gary Stein did the play by play on the radio for the Blast. (No, I don't get Fox on Dreck TV- It's extra cash like Showtime. It's a low budget network but at least they hired announcers who know the sport). Kenn knows and likes the sport. Keith Mills used to do the weekly highlight show for the Blast before his legal probems. I am sure that Versus would have had better camera work but I'll bet more soccer purists sampled the match tonight so that would have been better. The PA is always awful at Baltimore. They won't turn down the 'Chucky Cheese' music. Syd has been right about this. They won't take the sport seriously and it comes across like one big playground but that is who comes to the matches here. It appears that there will be a slight downturn in attendance despite the trolls insisting otherwise. 5-0 is great for this side. Very impressive!!
As a season ticket holder for both DC United and Baltimore Blast, they are ngiht and day as far as atmospheres go. I like DC's traditional "no frills" where the crowd handles all the noisemaking and doesn't need any help from the announcer or any music other than their own singing. i don't mind the blast atmosphere though. lets face it, the place is almost a playground. When you look around it seems as though children outnumber adults at least 2:1 there. The blast have always done a good job of attracting youth groups, and it helps promote the team, the league, and soccer in general. I'm fine with listening to the spongebob squarepants theme being played if it means the good support keeps up.
The attendance was 6,100. The lower bowl was about 75% full. BTW, Mr. Hale doesn't give tickets away. Try again. SHAME
Thanks to those of you who watched and have taken the time to give your feedback. Know that everyone involved is working very hard to try to produce the best telecasts we possibly can. It's a work in progress. Keep watching.
The lower section was MAYBE 60% full. There were several sections that were 90% empty. Everyone at the Milwaukee game got a flyer for a buy-one-get-one free ticket. Our group had three free tickets courtesy of "Id Heel". Papering the house to get 4,500 people in the building for national TV. SHAME, indeed.
Not sure if anyones brought this up but Eddie mentioned a 10th team for next year but it hasn't been announced yet-any guess as to whom? I'll throw St Louis out there
