I am rooting for New England. It was bad enough seeing the Dynamo win MLS Cup last year. I really don't want to see the Dynamo having to stitch another star on their Jersey - stars won with what is still mainly what was our team.

Plus the REVS deserve to win this by now.

    Go REVS!!!!

I was glad to see Dom and the boys get to another final and although they looked a little weary at the end of a long season I think they will win it all. Good team, well coached, playing "San Jose earthquakes type" soccer and I think they are a joy to watch. 30,000 fans cheering them on and guys still busting their asses for each other, the club and their fans. It is all good in my book and I will be very surprised if they don't win the Cup. I just hope that we see an attacking final like San Jose Vs Chicago as opposed to a boring final like L.A. Vs New England final.

The only negative Huston faces (other that the fact that AEG owns them) is the fact that they, as a team, are getting a wee bit long in the tooth . Dom will have a challenge over the next two years to bring in some young players while maintaining the level of excellence that they have established.

We on the other hand have a new baby that nobody expects to do well and we have time to build it. More importantly, we have a guy that knows how to build it.

We also have had the pleasure of seeing the evil empire implode:). "what goes around comes around" comes to mind.

At the MLS All Star game in Denver I was sitting having a beer and a couple of L.A. fans came over to say hello. They asked me what I thought of L.A.'s chances (they had just signed David B. and they were pumped) and I told them that they should be worried. "you have wrapped up all your money on just a few guys and other that the stars you have nothing" was my honest opinion. "you will sell tickets and jerseys but you will struggle big time as a team so if winning things is your goal, get ready for a struggle". I wonder if they remember that conversation:) In hindsight I am sounding like a smart-ass but it sure feels good:)

Miffed? No, not in the least.

It's as if De Ro had been traded to Toronto and the made the cup. I'd be happy for DeRo but otherwise I'd have no opinion about his team.

I'm looking forward to what we're building to waste time with the past and might-have-beens.

    I'm the biggest Earthquakes fan.

But I'll be at MLS cup with my 03 Quakes jersey and an orange scarf, cheering the Dom and the rest of the team on.

It's hard for me to be upset with Houston, especially since those are still our guys out there for the most part. And I love seeing what the diehard supporters bring to each game, and their support from the city seems excellent as well. But then again, they were certainly born with silver spoons in their mouths, would the support and attendance still be there if they were given a lowly expansion team to build from scratch.

For what could potentially happen, look at Colorado in the NHL. Their first year in Colorado after moving from Quebec they win the Stanley Cup, then go on to make the playoffs every season while adding another Championship. Every game from the first season in '95-'96 to '05-'06 is sold out. Then in '06-'07, the Avs falter for much of the season, then come back to just miss the playoffs by just 1 point. Yet the shutout streak is broken, apparently fans there only want winners. This season, attendance has dropped significantly, even though the team is not bad. Have the fans become so used to having a winner that they can't stomach anything else? Could this happen in Houston? I think it's possible.

But I digress, our hate should be aimed at AEG, our jealousy should be aimed at Houston.

I love it Johnny! "San Jose earthquakes type" soccer! The evil empire will implode sooner or later. You are right "what goes around comes around". Its still a wonder on why AEG wouldn't want to invest more money in this Houston squad as they are about to compete for their 4th MLS CUP.

I'm just soooooo over them at this stage--they're not my team anymore. WE HAVE our own now! The AEG factor though remains. I wish the team luck and look forward to seeing them next season. It will be WEIRD I am sure!

However, I am going to root for New England. I mean, c'mon! This is their 3rd appearance in a row! Jaysus, they should be throwing everything forward!

Re: Is anyone else absolutely miffed that the Dynamo are back in the MLS Cup?

I will be driving up for Raleigh and will be rooting for the Dynamo. I still can't bring myself to root for the Krafts. I will be wearing all Quakes blue, 2001 shirt, jacket, scarf, cap etc... My wife will be wearing Dynamo stuff. As she is originally from Houston she has "defected" to "follow her players and home town team". I am still Quakes through and through and have only started to watch MLS again since the "expansion" announcement.

Next Season could be interesting in our household!!! Guess I might need to buy a new couch??

I will always proudly and emotionally support all the guys who were part of the Quakes. They gave us some of the biggest athletic thrills of our lives -- and went out of their way to make us feel like we (the hard-core fans) were part of the team. Just like they're doing now with the people of Houston. They're a model of how pro athletes should treat their fans. Good for them.

It's easy for me, at least, to separate the team from the ownership.

I agree completely, but would add that I feel no animosity to the Houston fans. The Houston fans played no part in my team leaving town. And the fans certainly appear to appreciate the team-great show Saturday night.

Next year, however, I'll consider Houston fans the same way I would New England or Chivas USA fans. It'll take special effort for them to equal or better my feelings for Galaxative fans...

Re: Is anyone else absolutely miffed that the Dynamo are back in the MLS Cup?

I'm so angry I could eat glass.

To be clear, I am not angry with the Houston fans, and clearly, they have the best and classiest players in the league.

I hate AEG. I still hate MLS.

I'm still angry about what they did to us.

It is good for MLS that the support in Houston is huge. Of course, they have a great team to root for, but they also get great press and plenty of it. That's all good for MLS. But it also justifies their having moved OUR team to freaking Houston. And that makes me angry too. I hope AEG are losing their shirt financially on Houston.

Someone, Falvo?, asked why doesn't AEG invest more in the Houston club. Um, because AEG love only El-Lay, and be honest, why mess with a winning club? The kind of investment Houston needs now is for AEG to pay for a stadium for them, and they are idiots if they don't.

I am not going to watch MLS Cup. I hope that Dom and the guys are happy and successful, but watching them play makes me want to puke. I just can't do it.

I'm elated that we get a new team, but I'm pissed that AEG was allowed to move ours in the first place. I'm pumped for '08, but I don't see MLS lifting a finger to help our club in any way. They ought to let us raid Houston and El-Lay's rosters for having screwed us so thoroughly, but they won't.

    GOOOOO QUAAAAAAKES!!!! :D

You can cheer for who you want, but do you really have to wear orange? That makes my stomach turn a little.

Last year was a little weird - that should have been our team. However, I live in Boston, and the Revs have been a great team to follow the past two years, so I wasn't really rooting for either team too strongly.

This year? The Quakes are coming back in five months. Let's go Revs.

I find so much entertainment and enjoyment when Houston fans love to invade our threads.....

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=613151

With the exception of Don Juego, it seems like some of them can't really take the truth and they complain that we've invaded their threads....Notice in the thread below its closed out becuase they couldn't take the complaining from us Quakes fans. They just can't handle the fact that we are right and/or justified in our beliefs. I guess they know deep down we got srewed and they can't handle the truth...How funny!

    AEG selling Houston?

Maybe. He was close to Laurie Calloway but being from Ipswich Town he had to be a teammate of Frank Yallop at one point. They may know each other pretty well but Mariner played with Ipswich until the 1985-86 & Yallop played with them from 1983-1996 so they may know each other.

Well written. We had to live with many years of sub-par Quakes teams and the God awful one in 2000, so we took our stripes and earned the championship team it developed into. Houston got a golden gift dumped in their laps without any suffering involved. Did they earn a trophy team? No, and until they taste many bitter years they won't be able to appreciate the sweetness so I pity them more than anything.

I've been a fan of the Revolution, ever since the Quakes left in 05, and I've grown close to Parkhurst, Twellman & Ralston. And after seeing all the MLS Cups where New England Comes up short by 1 damn goal every time. I think it'll be a different story this year. This is the year of New England/Boston Sports.

    Red Sox - MLB Champions
Patriots - Going Undefeated, and probably will win the Super Bowl
Revolution - =D soon to be MLS champs.

If I remember the news correctly, she was taking a course here in school (don't know which one) that couldn't be duplicated anywhere else. I'm sure he will be here at least for the off-season.

While I strongly agree with the line of thinking behind Beerking's "earn your Cup" sentiment, I can't root against Houston right now.

Since we still are not actively competing for the Cup, I still have a soft spot for "our guys" in Houston. We got to rub elbows with these guys and get to know them on a personal level (at SWTQ and tailgates, etc.) They gave us a lot of great thrills. Speaking for myself, I would say their postseason run to the 2003 Cup was, unquestionably, the most exciting month of my sports-watching life!!! I never expect to live anything quite like that again.

As long as "our guys" are playing in Houston (Dominic and the boys,) I will root for them if it isn't us. This after I pondered rooting against them because I didn't want them to have as many stars on their jerseys as we will. Then, I started thinking about the men on that team and what they've meant to me and my family. I can't hope for poor fortune for them just because of what I hope our team will SOMEDAY achieve.

It's like all the arguments we've heard about the NFL's New England Patriots running up scores--if you don't want them to run up the score, stop them. Same applies here. Once our Quakes are back on the pitch, we need to take the Cup from them. Once Dom and the boys are gone and that team no longer resembles our once-proud team...then they're just another rival.

Even with a new coach that seems to remain a permanent pattern.
I hope New England doesn't give their usual boredom show. They seem to tighten up in championships.

Ah, yes, can't wait for LARS to return.

In the mean time, I still like the quality of play our old guys demonstrate as well as their character, so I'll pull for the Creamsicles in a somewhat casual "Oh, isn't that nice" kind of way. I don't think AEG even knows they have a soccer team outside L.A., or even what an MLS Cup is, so rooting for or against the team probably has little or nothing to do with deserved hatred for that evil corporation.
