first things first: i would like to take pictures (galaxykat i'm volunteering you) of the travelling Texian Army support w/banner at the MLS Cup. preferably in front of the Lincoln Memorial, but i will leave it open to discussion. if you're not Texian Army you're still welcome come by and pose. i know some of yous are going to be at the planned activities, so what do you say about doing this on Saturday morning before everything gets going. thoughts? which leads me to: i'm not planning on attending the organized supporters activities. nothing personal against the Screaming Eagles (organizers), i have nothing but repect for them and Barra Brava but it just to MLS "cheesy" for me. don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to discourage anyone from going so if anybody wants to go represent Texian Army knock yourself out. so i plan to check out the 1% of the Smithsonian that i can see in one day. anybody want to go?
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday Rey. I'm pretty sure Meghan and I are going to be doing a ton of sight seeing on Saturday. I've always wanted to visit DC and its her favorite city in the US. I definitely want to visit the Mall and all that good stuff. So let me know what you're thinking and I'll talk to meghan about it. Also, we get into DC 11:30 pm on Friday.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday Wish I could go with you guys. Represent us well. I would have one request, though - go see the Wall. Take pictures. Nothing would make more proud than to see TA paying their respects to those who gave their all.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday The monuments to those who died for our country in WWII, Korea and Vietnam are very moving. Don't miss them.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday I'm going to be down for sightseeing. I'm going to have to find a place to watch the Israel-Russia game at noon but before and after I'm going to want to sightsee as well.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday I'm also in for sight-seeing. My travel plans included the whole Saturday for seeing DC . Just let me know, where and when to meet on Sat.morning. THE KRAUT IS INVADING THE CAPITOL OF THE USA>>>>
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday I think I'll be going to Fado's pub (http://www.fadoirishpub.com/washington/) to watch the Israel-Russia match (thanks to gocaps for the advice) at 1 PM. So I'm down for sightseeing before and after the match. I want to see all the Mall things; the White House, Lincoln Memorial, all the war memorials.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday Is there a party Saturday night? Perhaps orange should take over some sports bar close to a Metro stop. Is there a DC Mezzanine?
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday Im down for some sight seeing! Ive been to DC twice this year and seen alot but still have more to see....really wanna see the zoo.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday Well my flight is supposed to get in at 12:45am Sunday morning, so I'm thinking sightseeing is out for Brahmafutbol. I just hope I wake up in time for the game. That would suck if I slept through it, huh?
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday my daughter and I will be in DC sightseeing on Saturday...if you post some times we will try to be there...
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday From a DC native here. Skip the zoo. There are better zoos in this country. Plus, it is so hilly you'll be exhausted. See the FDR Memorial. It is the best. Bring your studs if you play; always a game nearby. The Vietnam Memorial is great. Korean War Memorial, IMHO, isn't all that. Visit the Capitol. Skip Air and Space. The Botanical Garden is good. Take a walk through Union Station. And, since it is a Saturday, take in a walk through and, maybe, a lunch at Eastern Market.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday I'm down for sightseeing and picture-taking!
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday On my from National to Potomac I'll probably stop and check out the WWII Monument, haven't seen that one yet. Need to check out the Smithsonian's Native American museum too. I highly recommend the Holocaust Museum, but recommend that you do not go there unless you want a highly emotional and depressing experience. It is an amazing and moving place.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday When we went on Memorial Day weekend for the DC/Houston regular season game, newtex, mabeuf and myself went to the zoo and I thought it was a pretty good one...and it's free. The hill though is a huge pain in the ass. You have two choices. Start at the bottom and walk all the way up (tiring as hell I imagine) or start at the top, walk down, get lost trying to figure out a way to a Metro station that doesn't entail walking up a ginormous hill, and then realize it's impossible so you walk up a hill some ass backwards way along some busy road. The latter is the option that we chose. I also recommend the spy museum if you are into that sort of thing. I thought it was pretty sweet although it is one of the few things in DC you have to pay to visit. You should also expect to buy your tickets in advance as you can't just pay and walk-in unless it's relatively empty. In May, they were on the verge of opening some sort of interactive exhibit where you are a CIA agent looking for a nuclear bomb that's about to go off in the US. If nothing else, the gift shop has a plethora of communist propaganda t-shirts which would make great banners and flags for 2008.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday The latest DC Tourist attraction to open is the Madame's Tussaud's Wax Museum It's around the corner from Ford's Theater. If you want to tour "real D.C" (not the Mall and the tourist spots), there are a bunch of self-guided walking tours through a bunch of neighborhoods. Adams Morgan and the U St corridor are pretty cool. http://www.culturaltourismdc.org/information2546/information.htm K
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday We went to the Spy Museum in June and had a good time. We walked over to Matchbox pizza which was really good. My girlfriends uncle always knows a pizza place, and that one won best pizza place in DC once or twice. The Mall has a bunch of good stuff. I wanted to see the American History museum since that's my major, but it's closed until next summer. We ran through Air and Space because they have some of the stuff there, which was worth it. R2-D2 and C3PO, the Seinfeld puffy shirt, the sign post from MASH and a bench from the sit in during the 50's. I loved it all and will be back in DC in March.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday Please participate in the democratic process. Call your congressional office, tell them you are coming and ask them to arrange a capitol tour for you. Ask if anyone will be in the office during the weekend, if the answer is yes, then show up and yell at them.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday My flight arrives at 12:05 pm on Saturday at DCA.....Maybe I can join you all at the mall (or wherever) as soon as I can...
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday Be careful of how you use the word "paint". You never know when Waldo is watching.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday I'm in Fri @ ~10:50 pm. Just say where to meet.
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday As a DC transplant, in temporary exile in Florida, ..Please enjoy your tour of DC. It is a spectacular city! Skip the Zoo, but try to visit one or 2 museums. The are all free at the Smithsonian! Grab Breakfast at Eastern Market! Do not miss the Vietnam Memorial, it is a powerful monument! Saturday night go hang out by the historic U street and Adams morgan! A lot of fun!
Re: Who's planning on going sight-seeing in DC on Saturday This is all a bunch of sentimental Bullkaka!! The only sight I want to see is Wade lifting the Cup (again)!! And maybe a donkey punch or two.
