Is there any truth to the potential site being in a flood plain? I do not think it would cause a huge amount of problems, but I've never been to the site (only driven past it on I-55). The only thing I know is that Horseshoe Lake is about 1/2 mile to the West.

I suppose, with all the construction that would be occurring there, they might be leveling off the ground, or adding a lot of filtration systems underground, or something along those lines.

Anyways, in other speculation.... here's to hoping that MLS makes some sort of announcement next weekend. If it's the awarding of a franchise... great! If they say an official announcement won't come until January... well, at least we're not out of the running.

Yes the site is technically in a flood plain. It doesn't seem like flooding is a huge concern though. I can't recall the last time it really flooded in that area. Maybe the '93 flood. I'd imagine Cooper has a plan to shore up any concerns.

Unfortunately, that woman got several other things wrong. I doubt she knows much about the plan, otherwise she wouldn't have listed the use period as only 5 months.

Everything up to the bluffs in Collinsville is technically a flood plain, but it would take one monster flood to get that far these days with all of the work the Army Corps of Engineers has done to manage it. I flew out of St. Louis near the height of the '93 flood and it never even approached that far East of the Mississippi at that spot on the river.

The river was pretty wide on the North side of town and then farther South after the Missouri joins up, but other than localized repeat wet areas like where the Khoury league fields are a little ways Southeast of where the stadium is proposed to be, the rest was no wetter than any other spots that had undergone that much rain. That being said, a good drainage system is obviously a must there as it's about as flat as a pool table around there.
